I bet nobody here was worried about a BLACK Head Coach... But the media is sure to make a big deal about it. I'd like to think as musicans we have all passed beyond the racial barrier, the FREE AMERICAN PRESS will never let us.

I think musicians were among the first (well not the absolute first) to overlook race. Can be traced back to the old days and the beginning of jazz, through the days of Frank Sinatra (who told management to let Sammy Davis come in the front door) to today.
Although any passing of a mile stone for a black is traditionally celebrated and I don't think the media was being racist as much as they were announcing a new mile stone reached by a black man. That's not so bad.

I was just thinking the same thing. It's a milestone. That's it, not a race issue at all.Hawk wrote:I think musicians were among the first (well not the absolute first) to overlook race. My socks are all white. Does that make me an Aryan supremacist?AceaDiamonds wrote:Agreed! I don't even think about color, sept when I'm picking out socks in the morning.

Unintentional adjective. Not meant in a negative way .BadDazeRob wrote:Isn't it racist to refer to an African American as "a black?"Hawk wrote:Although any passing of a mile stone for a black is traditionally celebrated ...

Political correctness can be carried too far.
BTW my wife is a Pollock.
Can't agree more and, for the record, I was just giving you a rough time with your Archie BunkerismHawk wrote:Political correctness can be carried too far.

I think it's high time, with people like Dave Chappelle gaining popularity, that political correctness be flushed. It makes me sick most of the time.

Black, white, green, orange, purple, or paisley. I don't give a shit what
color the person is, if they can do the job then they deserve it! I agree
that the media needs to lay off on the racial issue. Lovie Smith and Tony Dungee are good coaches plain and simple! The Steelers have smart folks in their management, and have typically made the "right" decisions over the years. I'm quite confident they looked at all issues/facts when they made their decision. Looking forward to next season!

why does anyone even have to say african american? they're just americans.. i don't call myself an irish/italian/german american.BadDazeRob wrote:Isn't it racist to refer to an African American as "a black?"Hawk wrote:Although any passing of a mile stone for a black is traditionally celebrated ...

we are all just fucking americans now... we just need to get past all that other shit. it is fucking stupid and it just provokes racism in idiots.
i have become anger .... i have become wrath
The blue babe was also cool, but my favorite was the blonde wearing the aluminum foil diaper. Back in the days when Star Trek was having the interracial teases, it was considered scandalous by many prudes.lonewolf wrote:I thought the issue of race was over once James T. Be prepared for 2 weeks of the media feasting on this story: first black american coachs in the Superbowl. They would have loved it even more if it were 2 black quarterbacks. I think we Americans are over it, its the media that isn't.
i agree its the 21st century we have transexuals gay marriages ect ect but we still can seem to get away from racial barriers WHY??? Blame the government and media Shame on them.... But when they talk about politically correct why do they say BLACK coach???? SHouldnt they say African American.....Hmmm actually the color of thier skin is shades of brown I have never seen a black person.... Could it possibly be we still say black people because its now wrong to say negro's??? Negro means black in latin i think right....Maybe BLACK is the pollitically correct way to make racial slurs at African Americans Screw the media all they do is pollute peoples minds with what will make them rich....
Without Musicians Creating Original Music There would be no Music to Request....!!!!SUPPORT ORIGINAL MUSIC!!!!! www.myspace.com/dustinburley

It's a fü©king milestone that they're proud of, no different than Jackie Robinson or Rosa Parks."I think about my generation of kids, who watched Super Bowls, never really saw African-American coaches and didn't necessarily think about the fact that you could be the coach. You could be a player. You couldn't necessarily be the quarterback. Then we saw Doug Williams play and win, and guys a little bit younger than me all of a sudden felt they could be a quarterback. Now you see Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick, guys like that, because of what Doug did.
And hopefully, young kids now will say, 'Hey, I might be the coach one day.' So that's special."

Why is the media to blame for everything?!? Don't you people (oh, $hit, I said, "you people" ) have the ability to think and form opinion on your own? I suppose video games and rock music are to blame for violence in schools ... As Nell Carter once sang, "Gimmie A Break."
Here's a thought: Everyone take responsibility for his or her own thoughts and actions and the rest will take care of itself. Stop looking to assign blame for the way people think. You choose to do act and react in specific ways to stimuli in this world. The kind of person you are is no one's fault but your own.
