Soldiers who are serving in Iraq.
Soldiers who are serving in Iraq.
If you know of any in a personal way. There should be some way of sending them a big Rock Page hello.
No Politics in this thread please.
Let's join together to pray (if your religious) or in your own way, support these Americans who represent us. Putting their very lives on the line for the USA.
Perhaps if you know anyone, you could post something about them.
If anyone has any suggestions on how we might cheer them up or let them know we care ? Post here.
Let's get off our butts and do something besides complain.
Again , Please, No political opinions in this thread.
Comments ? Ideas ? Let's come together for a good cause.

I know that last year at Get Closer To The Music's annual Music Festival, there was a big tapestry hanging on the wall that people could sign, that was then sent to our troops overseas. Perhaps we could develop something along this line, or gather a "care package" of local CD's, supplies and greetings to send to a special local unit or units serving in Iraq.

count me in. maybe we could get some studio time donated by a local studio and make a rockpage cd. covers/originals.exclusively for the troops would be tough to set up, but could be done. every one could throw in a couple bucks to make it happen 2300 registered users times 2 bucks =4600 bucks to produce something. just an idea/ maybe not a good one but it would be cool to pull something like that together. i'll do whatever i can to help/ whatever we come up with.
good idea hawk.

I wonder if someone could write a "Rock Page Salute to Serving Soldiers" song. And some RP musicians could record it. It would need to be uplifting and show that we are thinking of them and that WE CARE ABOUT THEM.mjb wrote:count me in. maybe we could get some studio time donated by a local studio and make a rockpage cd. covers/originals.exclusively for the troops would be tough to set up, but could be done. every one could throw in a couple bucks to make it happen 2300 registered users times 2 bucks =4600 bucks to produce something. just an idea/ maybe not a good one but it would be cool to pull something like that together. i'll do whatever i can to help/ whatever we come up with.

Along with a signed poster like Get Closer did. We could have it at various venues during a gig.

How about a benefit show to raise some $$$ to buy stuff (like MP3 players) for a bunch of our men and women serving over there?

J.P.,
Using the signed tapestry idea. Maybe there could be something like several autograph books that could travel around to numerous clubs and gigs for bands and who ever else wants to sign them and write some encouraging words to the troops. The books, along with CD's and other items, could be sent to different locally based military units wherever they are stationed.

Don't forget about Operation Dear Abby. Folks can write letters to the troops and send them over for personal responses, too.
---------------
Addresses to be used for sending first class letter mail, 13 ounces or less only, to "Any Service Member" are:
Any Service Member
Operation Dear Abby
APO AE 09135-for Europe and South West Asia
Any Service Member
Operation Dear Abby
FPO AE 09646-for the Mediterranean Basin
Any Service Member
Operation Dear Abby
APO AP 96285-for the Far East
Any Service Member
Operation Dear Abby
FPO AP 96385-for the Pacific Basin
The above addresses of major U. S. military aerial mail terminals and fleet mail centers overseas are being used as mail hubs. They will receive the mail and distribute it on a fair-share bases to all Services in their respective areas. This process is designed to preclude over burdening transportation assets and inundating specific military units. It also allows for wider distribution to service members.

Dood...
Very cool ideas comming in.
I just talked to a local army recrutor . He thought any thing we could do would be great. He suggested that local musicians record "God Bless America" and "God Bless The USA".
He gave me the name and phone number to someone who might have some ideas about what things the soldiers might like to get from home. And where to send them, should we decide to target a particular group.
I have a guy who PM'd with words to a song he wrote (the words I'll put up in a few minutes) . Perhaps a group of locals could record.
Keep the ideas comming. Then we can organize, and get something done.

Someone (a Rockpage member) sent me these words for a song he wrote. I'm not sure if he has music for it, but I can check.
This not meant as a finished project. But perhaps as a foundation we might build on and tweak.
Very cool he took the time to put this together so quickly.
To The Troops
You've been called on by our Chief
To stop a killing thief
You never asked why
As you left you home
And watched you family cry
It wasn't your call
It was your duty
To put an end
To it all
When darkness falls and you're all alone
Don't be afraid to call on us, my brother
To keep a watchful eye
On your home
'cause you are there
And we are here
We want you to know
How much we care
We watch the news
With great sadness
Be we can't even imagine
All the madness
We think of you a lot
In your foxhole
And in your tent
Things get out of hand
That's not what was meant
You hold your head high
No matter your task
Because
You were asked
We know it's been tough for you
All that you have been through
And when you feel blue
Please know, that back home we are safe
BECAUSE OF YOU !

Kudos to Hawk this is a super idea and all of us here on rock page should chip in and help out.
If its from playing to singing or lending a hand to helping get it together.
As J.P. stated, we hung a huge piece of paper on the wall for everyone to sign the day of the event and then we mailed it to the 872nd Maint. Co. stationed in Mosul, Iraq

Remember people that if it wasn't for military risking their lives to help keep what we have today in freedom.
All of these ideas are strong ones and we need to come up with something to put together for this cause.
I know I would be very appreciative if I was in their shoes, in that place
going without showers maybe once every 3-4 days, getting shot at , blown up, stink/disintary, little to no sleep, half the world away.
To here from Americans back home that they were not forgot about, and we cared........

I just hired a guy named Jesse Sul a few weeks back, he just got back from Afghanistan recently. He worked for me for two weeks and got the news to report to Fort Benning and will be on his way to Iraq very soon.
His biggest worry was that I would be pissed because he couldn't give me a notice. I don't care if I have to give that guy my job when he comes home, There will always be a place for him to work with me. Anything Fedup can do to help, we're in.
