Rumors are flying that the Police will re-unite for a 30th anniversary tour this year. Thoughts?
Personally, I'm pretty darn fired up. Such a great band. They went out on top too. Judging from Sting's show at Bryce Jordan last year, he can deliver the goods to make it work. He can still nail the high notes when he wants, and he isn't afraid to rock out.
And it would make up at least a little bit for the Clash reunion that never happened due to the fickle hand of the grim reaper.
The Police is one of the few bands I might actually feel is worthy of what will surely cost a lofty fee to see. I've always been so amazed when a band is so tight you couldn't possibly cut them apart. And Bobby, when I first heard them I wanted to be a drummer! Copeland is truly amazing. And for that matter Andy was such a texture monster on guitar. I got my first "big local band" gig by nailing "Every Breath" at an audition. Ahhh, memories.
The Police - great band. I hope that they can pull off their reunion. Well deserved for sticking around on this green earth for all this time. Stewart Copeland is a great drummer - very unique style. I hope he & Sting can get along on tour. I heard Sting is an asshole or was that Copeland? Oh well, it doesn't matter. They're both hard-working, RICH assholes.
I've drank enough beer to float a battleship! Go ahead and Rock & Roll all night if you can but don't party every day!
that would be awesome. i think i was in 10th grade when sync. came out. me and my buddy chipped in to get it. we wore that tape out and maybe even another one. i'd go see that show for sure.
I saw a show from '79, right before they broke big in the US, on VH-1 Classic about a month ago. Wow. You could tell many people in the audience didn't know the songs, as they were new, but they were undeniably tight, and "hit the note" really well. People loved 'em, and within a few months of that taping, they were world-wide rock stars.
By '83, they were on every radio station, every 10 minutes.---->JMS
Back in the fall of 1978, I was at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with our guitar player at the time from the band, Lickety Split, trying to book some gigs at the college. We saw a poster on the wall for an upcoming show by a new band, "The Police", at the UPJ Log Cabin (a very small room). We looked at the photos in the poster and did not recognize anybody including Andy Sumners who had played with The Animals. We thought it was just another punk band coming to do a show and we never gave a thought to going to see them. Tickets for non-students were only a few dollars.
The Police were traveling around the country in a station wagon with nothing more than their amps, guitars, and drums. The college rented a PA from the band, Hot Gossip, for the show. A friend of mine who played drums with Hot Gossip was asked to set up and run the PA for The Police. He never heard of them either. He said they were not very good or tight musically or vocally and they did not have enough songs for an entire show because their first album just came out and they played Roxanne several times and he said not very well. They played for something like $350 and there were not many people there.
A few weeks later, the song, Roxanne, hit the airwaves in a huge way and the rest is history.
I'd be down for that, The Police were a huge influence on me growing up even being a metalhead. There's a magic to their sound that i cant describe that justs hits me. I guess it's the catalyst of the musicians, like the orignal Sabbath lineup, when they play together the sonic melding of the unique individual nuances produces great lasting music.
