Trixter Tribute Band?

Post by Give It To Me Good »

hey everyone. One of the reasons I came here to rockpage was because i've always wanted to start a Trixter tribute band. Since Trixter has such a wide influence on all styles of music that came after them, it only seem reasonable that a tribute band would go over. Since they recorded between 1990 and 1992, that means that there is a huge market for this thing. What do you guys thnk? I'd sing but since trixter had such awesome musicianship, the guys playing the instruments would have to be exccellent. Do you people think this is a good idea?

i def. think you should throw it together but you should probobly head out to l.a. or reno maybe to make your dream come true. cuz i just don't think the talent exists locally to pull something of that caliber off. but hey, drop us a line when you get it together and we'll see if JP could maybe organize a bus trip and we'll all head out. good luck

No, not a good idea to start a Trixter tribute band. Starting a band is a good idea though. Perhaps you should put together a band & play several Trixter tunes but also include the other popular rock/pop metal material of that time period. Presuming that you can find musicians that can handle it that is. Also, you need to be a screamer of a singer as well, right? Besides, there are already 80's/90's hard rock/metal cover bands in the general area. You would be up against these other established acts to make your project successful. What will you do to set your band apart? Just something to consider - and I don't think playing Trixter songs that nobody knows will really go over. But who knows, maybe there's enough gigs to go around. Another idea would be to consider a more deserving band for a tribute, say...Whitesnake for example. But since you're stuck on the Trixter thing - good luck.

Not being rude, and your opinion is yours to keep but, I checked them out on myspace and vomited in my mouth. There is some good hair metal but, that isn't. As much as you are posting, I'm thinking you are someone who is doing something along the lines of what happened with Captain Grammar, Tootie, Archie Bunker, etc.

And if you are not, give me proof of at least 10 major bands who were heavily influenced by them to prove how wildly influential you seem to think they are. I don't see them being mentioned as an influence on anyone I've yet listened to (and that includes a lot of music). But, like I said, I think you are purposely posting this shit to get a rise out of everyone.

Are you kidding? Pantera lists Trixter as their BIGGEST influence in the liner notes of "Cowboys From Hell."

I'm also pretty sure that the Insane Clown Posse mentions them as well.

I have them on a VHS (if anyone remembers what that is! ) When they opened for Slaughter & Warrant..Back when Warrant still had the 80s hair...I can only rmember one ballad they had and even now I don't recall the name of it... And their drummer was good but when he wore the headphones it made him and his hair look like Cramer from Senfield!!..
If your being serious bro, we don't want to step on your dream BUT :
#1 Only 2 tribute bands ever lasted, The Kiss one and "Back in Black" (AC/DC) but even so they couldn't have played in one area week after week!!...They have to go state to state. (now i know there's Skynyrds and Floyds, but they dont play around here)
#2 : You'll need an opener everynight since they only had 1 album that anyone ever heard, that dosn't give you 4 hours of music...So plan on people maybe calling the opener back more than this project.
#3 Like someone above said if that's what you want to play...and you plan on just playing around here...better learn some other stuff from that era!!

Trixter were nothing more than a 3rd tier hair metal band. Signed at the end of the 80's hair metal craze as a last minute cash grab by the record companies before the bottom fell out. If I remember not one of them was over 21 when they got signed. They had 2 hits. Give it to me good (good song but I'd wanna yank my hair out and shove hot pokers in my ears after a few spins) and One in a Million (can't even tell ya how that song goes. Probably many 80's hair snobs could say the same). After that they faded into obscurity never to be heard of again except for the butt of many jokes as what went wrong with the 80's scene.

I can get behind and support alot of shit when it comes to 80's hair. But this ain't one of them!

heh heh heh. Liner notes. heh heh heh

That leads me to my next question: Who is the Insane Clown Posse?

I've seen the term used several times and when you think about it, it does make sense. Basically hair bands signed at the beginning of the 80's hair craze (early 80's) were top quality bands. Example: Motley Crue. Bands signed during the mid - 80's were still decent quality but ya had a few stinkers. Bands signed at the end of the 80's hair craze tended to fall more on the shitty side. (trixter, slaughter) Basically the market became saturated with a shitload of cookie cutter bands. The record companies seen the formula that was working. (big hair, pretty boys, loud guitars, party rock anthems, etc) Instead of the record companies looking out for the next big thing, they were looking for bands that already fit the formula on what already had worked. Bands seen this so they in turn were copying the styles of those who had already hit it big instead of working on developing their own style and sound.

as bag pointed out, Trixter has influenced both Pantera and ICP. I also stated in another thread that I can hear some Trixter influence in hatebreed's music. Some other bands influenced by Trixter:

Lit
Buckcherry
Black Dahlia Murder
2Pac
Trivium
Drop Kick Muprhys
Pat Metheny
Toby Kieth

thanks everyone for your ideas. i really appreciate them.

Do you have proof of that somewhere? I can say all kinds of bands were too but, it doesn't mean anything without proof. And, "I can hear it" doesn't count.

Not one place on Trivium's site is Trixter mention BTW...I guess you are using the Pantera tie in for a 2nd degree influence. That's debatable but, doesn't count IMO.

Anyhow, if you can prove it, then cool. I'll still want to vomit when I hear them.
