Keith, a very astute observation, man ... Your "bull-$hit-o-meter" is apparently working pretty well ... good job.

I agree i should never have gone 3 times without the contract my mistake and

the best idea would be to have FedUp show up and tear the roof off the place The crowd at zachs would be speachless LOL ....Or bobby's idea, throw a mega band together of the heaviest metal you can find and show up open up the show with something from Slayer, SOD or Gwar and go crazy LOL

Oh and the RUMORS youve been hearing about baby kittens getting killed at set break is true I went over the edge in December I was tired of getting song requests like "Margaritaville, Brown Eyed Girl, Jessie's Girl, and Freebird" i think i might have broke a salt shaker too

Id hate playing peoples requests.
When people would request something, id say instead, im gonna play "the audience member who slowly bled to death in the parking lot after the show".

You know the request thing is sort of annoying but whats real bad when you have these people that come up and just start looking thru your stuff. Some nights im like whatever But others i just want to scream ...Its like Would you do this to the band at the 4d's tonight oh well living as a musician right:)

You forget, Keith, Dustin does his original music most of the time. It's all good anyway. You should go up and jam, it's fun. You get to let go of your preconceptions about music and go in a new direction for a while. Who knows, maybe it'll inspire your playing! It did for me when I was jamming with Dustin in Gin & Juice. Totally re-invigorated my drumming, and made me a much better drummer.

That's the fun part. It's improvisation. You listen, come up with something in your head to compliment, and play it. It's all about taking that leap off the cliff and seeing what happens.

I've never said in my posts that I don't like any other place...I've discussed how they are doing a great job at what they are doing but how its hard to compete. That's a fair statement.

Next time when I talk about something that I hear, I will make sure that I do not mention names....but if I were a band, I would want to know that type of information wouldn't you? As I said, its unconfirmed.....and yes, I doubted the 8pm timeline here too....but that is what was said. I thought the posting was within the topic of the thread.

I've booked bands here based on what I read and the discussions that go on here. Its a good place. But if I as a member of this area can not post without being slammed, I will move along because frankly, I don't need to be slammed. Criticism I can handle if its something that I can learn from. Telling me that I don't like other venues or telling me that I'm being picked up on someone's "bull-$hit-o-meter" is not being helpful to anyone. I wouldn't be on the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Board of Directors if I could not be open minded and fair about all avenues and businesses. You tell me where anything that I posted was against the businesses themselves.

If I felt as you described me as feeling towards my "partners in entertainment" I would be trying to have bands each and every weekend. We instead have a different style (one in which we are just now defining and getting into place as our second year of ownership begins). No, we do not see Bar 53 or any other bar as a competition.

Fortunately for me and the few other bar owners here, there are some here that have a very good business mind that we can feed off of for advice and information. And I always travel the high road.

Why does Clearfield Count NEED a Recreation and Tourism Board?

I mean... Interstate 80 isn't exactly a tourist spot...

however it is a tourist's means of getting to other, more desireable destinations... like say... Jefferson County

lisa, you do alwys seem to take the high road. that is why in my original post it started with " i'm surprised".sorry for all the fall-out. in all honesty it did sound kind of strange comming from you, but it did sound kind of bash liike. sometimes the typed word doesn't come across like you really mean it to. i'm living proof of that

Thanks mjb.....I probably should have re-read my original post before posting.....guess I'm just not having a good day today....maybe I shouldn't post on days where I'm pressed at worked and on the way out the door to another appointment for my mom who is dealing with losing her good kidney......oh well. We have those days.

IF it did sound as bashing, sorry. It really wasn't meant to be posted as that....but I do stand by my stance that I do not bash 'competition' as I do not think of them as that.

Jes getting on this topic so my perusal is somewhat haphazard.

It's a really odd fine line of competition/colleagueship, whether it be band or
venue, I guess.

I want every band and bar on here to do great but we all strive to build as big
a following as we can and prolly don't stay up at night thinking "Geez...hope we
didn't pull too many people from that Plasmatics tribute band playing down the
road. They seem like nice guys...especially that "Wendy O fella.".

Bars want to get every customer they can and will do what they need to make
this happen, yet may very well like their "competition".

Bands'll, essentially, do the same thing. We all want to play some place and
have the people at that show come to our shows, wherever that may be.

I do think there's validity to the point of one bar doing well helping another,
even if it's inadvertently. We all have people who like us come somewhere
they may have never been just because we're there.

At the same time, someone who came to see us somewhere "new" for them may
think "This place is pretty cool" and will show up the next week to see whomever is
playing. The traitorous freak.

I was talking to a bar owner recently booking some stuff and we were agreed
that you just can't try to figure out the best "strategy" (For lack of a better word)
anymore. Not like you used to know how often to book a certain place, how
many people would show up, etc. SO, you just bust yer keister and put on the best
show you can and hope it sticks. Not that you/we/I haven't done the same thing
for however many years, but the outcome is much more nebulous.

What we need is good A.I. that we can activate for shows. They'll all drink like
Otis from "Andy Griffith" and look like Jessica Beil. Hmm. OKAY! Back to the lab!

I've never played at Zach's but I have at Bennigans, which is attached and, I'm sure, owned by the same people. Musicians are sort of decorations there... like the interesting collectible stuff they hang on the walls at places like these. They only have the live entertainment for the cachet of saying they have live music. You're sort of on the same ladder rung there as the dishwasher and the busboy. I grin like a f**king idiot while I'm playing, collect the substantial pay, and walk out the door congratulating myself that I didn't have to clean the toilets to get their money. I buy beans with the cash, and watch cartoons, with the exact same grin on my face. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. I win, suckers.
The next night, I play music I love, for free, because my bills are paid. It works out.
I'd simply make sure they know that you still get half-pay if you show up. I still have to pay full price at the doctor, even if he doesn't check my nads. I've even loaded in and set up... that way they feel they owe you something. "...Aw shucks, I really needed that money... can't you help me out? (sheepish, pathetic grin)"------->JMS

Yer more than welcome. There's room in the lab.

Help yourself to the beer for the "Otis" test just don't get too friendly with the "Biel" proto-types!

You're more than welcome to the throwaway "Tara Reid" crash test dummies though.

I'm sorry, that's wrong. I should be a better sharer than that.
