John Petrucci, Ynqwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Michael Amott, Zakk Wylde, Dimebag, Kerry King/Jeff Hanneman, Jonathan Danais, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Montoya, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll put more down here.

Like other responses, its hard to pick just two, but I really enjoy Jeff Beck and Arlen Roth. Their solo efforts are so expressive and lyrical that you do not miss the vocal element.

I'm certain that it is, but unfortunately no, haven't heard that one. Do you know if that is available? If so, please tell me what CD it's on & maybe I can find it on eBay. Thanks.

This is an impossible question to answer. Having said that I'd say John McLaughlin would be one of them, and probably Uli Jon Roth would be the other. Both of these players exemplify to me that unique combination of technique, touch, tone, creativity, and heart that rarely are all manifested in one player. All great players must exemplify at least one of these qualities, a few manifest more than one, but the list of players who embody the whole package is a pretty short list. Also, both McLaughlin & Roth have consistently released magnificent material for their entire careers (the "St. Anger factor"). I have seen both live as well and was knocked senseless by both. BTW, ask me tomorrow & I might say something different.

Honorable mention list for those that have genuinely impacted me (no particular order): Kirk Hammett, Randy Rhodes (R.I.P.), Tony Iommi, Zakk W., Roy Buchanan (R.I.P.), Dime (R.I.P), Scott Botteicher, Felix Kos, Duane Allman (R.I.P), Cliff Burton (R.I.P.), Santana, Dickey Betts, Wallack (R.I.P.), Brian Robertson, Gary Moore, Scott Gorham, Jeff Beck, Zappa, Warren Haynes, Buddy Guy, Michael Schenker, Murray & Smith, the Het, HENDRIX! (R.I.P), SRV (R.I.P), Rory Gallagher (R.I.P.), Gilmore, Page, Blackmore, Clapton, Sonny Sharrock, Pat Martino, Grant Green...

I'm sure I forgot quite a few. I have either learned directly from or spent a considerable amount of time listening to and studying all the aformentioned people (quite often to my own befuddlement). I haven't included notables like EVH, Satch, or VAI because, while amazing, I just don't feel they have influenced me musically. I haven't included guys like Malmsteen, DeMeola, or Petrucci, because they sound too much like wind up toys to me (Malmsteen came the closest to making the list).

87' Hetfield, and Dave Mustaine (if he would never try to sing again that would be cool with me too.)

I honestly think that Steve Brown of Trixter is a higly underrated guitarist. Nobody really ever gave him credit for his tasteful lead work. Of course, I think that Trixter is one of the gratest rock bands of all time and were never really given a fair shake because of tht whole gruge thing that came afterwards.
Time passes by,
And all that's left behind,
And the days of eternity.
There's no souvenirs. - Trixter
