DO YOU DEMAND ANY EXCELLENCE FROM ANY SIGNED ARTIST?
To correct you daveb, I went to Berklee in Boston not Berkley in california
2nd you are starting to see what I am talking about, even though you don't know it.
The fact that you say EVE OF DESTRUCTION was better, BECAUSE IT PROBABLY WAS. that is my point.
I am not teaching WHAT PEOPLE LIKE OR DISLIKE. I am teaching WELL CRAFTED. I wish people would start to realize that.
I can't say for sure because I have never heard your song, BUT I AM WILLING TO BET, Eve Of Destruction was a better CRAFTED song than I'M TOO SEXY. I am willing to bet.
The fact that you are aware that MORE MONEY was spent on the promotion and playing of I'M TOO SEXY and was the key factor in why it reached people, for those people to even make a choice of like or hate, shows me you some what get the picture.
People should not JUDGE art on the factor of like or dislike. You as a person could like nothing but shit. This is why boy bands are the recent best sellers because BUSINESS MEN see that teenage girls are the leading cd buyers so that is what sells. Good songs don't have the chance to be heard or recorded because BUSINESS MEN shut down mentally. IF IT DON'T SOUND LIKE BACKSTREET BOYS YOU ARE NOT GETTING SIGNED.
Again, what I am teaching is craft, not what you like or dislike. If you like sheryl crow and kid rock song PICTURE, hey ok, JUST KNOW THIS, IT IS POORLY CRAFTED .
WELL CRAFTED = CONTROL, DIRECTION, TECHNIQUE
well crafted DOES NOT = personal taste

Knowing what I do for a living has nothing to do what we are talking about.
Example
From a dead sound sleep
Something had prompted her to wake
Screaming she entered the baby's room
She pounded him, his angry grip to break
He dropped to his knees
He wept it's more than I could take
I didn't mean to hurt him
I'm sorry, it was all a mistake
LOOK CLOSELY, there is a PERSON PROBLEM with this opening verse.
I don't think the original writer wanted to say THE MOTHER POUNDED THE BABY. But...... That is what she is doing.
The pronoun plays the role of the last noun used.
screaming she entered the (BABY'S) room
she pounded (HIM), his angry grip to break
what she tried to do was say, SHE WAS POUNDING THE FATHER to let go of the baby. However, the thought was not executed. You only realize that is what SHE MENT to say as you read on. In doing so, YOU LOSE THE FEELING of the lyric because now for a moment WE WERE CONFUSED AND THEN we say OOOOOH this is what she meant.
HENCE NOT VERY WELL CRAFTED. The opening verse already has flaws which breaks it down.
THE FACT of the matter is THE PRONOUN takes the form of the last noun.
In saying all that, WHAT DOES MY JOB have to do with the knowledge I just used?

Ron, the Amish songwriter thing is just frickin killer. I'm almost pissing my pants. I was going to say that maybe his job was manifest writer for Ted Kazinski. If not , he sure has a future in it.
metalrules, I do not get you.....I do not understand you...please do not infer or suggest that I am starting to come around to your way of thinking. You know nothing of art. You know about structure and architecure. But not art. I apologize for misspelling the name of your College. Berklee is a wonderful institution. One of my favorite artists, Bruce Hornsby, is a Berklee grad. I would be curious to hear what he thought of "the gospel according to metalrules" You are truely an island unto yourself man, I bet you have little if any joy in your life. And please leave football alone, you know less about it than you do art.

Daveb you HIDE behind the word art. I know more about art than you because ART IS JUDGED on TECHNIQUE, CONTROL, DIRECTION
WHich you seem to not have a concept about. Your judging of art is personal taste. That is not judging art, that is WHAT YOU LIKE AND DON'T LIKE
As for football, yeah right, I know tons about football. Probably more than you
For example 2 uses OF MOTION OFFENSE
1. sending a player in motion allows the offense to see if the Defense is in MAN TO MAN COVERAGE OR ZONE. For example, when a WIDE RECEIVER goes in motion down the line of scrimmage, IF A DEFENSIVE BACK follows him down, THE COVERAGE IS MAN TO MAN. If no defensive player moves THE COVERAGE IS ZONE.
2 Sending a player in motion also CREATES MISS MATCHES. You get match ups that benefit the offense. For example TRYING TO GET A LINEBACKER TO COVER WR.
Again, I am passionate about football as well as music. I hope my lesson on MOTION OFFENSE was enjoyable

Yes it is true you can still run zone and still send a man to cover him by running down the line of scrimmage. However, there is a 98 percent chance that IT WON'T HAPPEN
The reason is for number 2 topic I talked about. CREATING MISS MATCHES. When a D is in zone coverage they have specific SPOTS they are to cover.
Hence, COVER 2 is a type of zone defense. Where the CORNER BACK covers the wide receiver and has the OPTION to release after 5 yards from him, KNOWING THEIR IS A SAFETY rolled up top
If one does not stay in the zones PROBLEMS can arise. Each man in zone has those spots he must stay in. If he leaves them, DISASTER can happen.
By sending the cornerback down the line of scrimmage LEAVES THE SAFETY too far up. Hence the Tight End now becomes a factor. He will most likely THROW A HALF AS BLOCK on the defensive end and THEN RELEASE into open field or a zone position which is NOW COVERED BY A LINEBACKER. HENCE, creating a miss match
SO most likely if they are going to run zone THEY WILL NOT PURSUE down the line. In zone it is important to have BOTH SIDES OF THE FIELD with CORNERBACKS patrolling zones within the five yard area from scrimmage. Again, if a wr blows by the corner backs covering the five yard zone areas, they have a safety on EACH SIDE OF THE FIELD covering up top
They do not want to create any more miss matches than they have to

The 1st part sounds like pure victimist psychobabble.metalrules wrote:NO but what she did was take someone elses spot in getting signed.
Are you aware that most big record companies only sign 30 artist a year. Only 10 are heavily promoted.
When someone like Spears gets a record deal and has no talent to sing live, and the fact that her songs are totally cliche fluff, it JUST RUINED SOMEONE ELSES CHANCES.
It is like football. Your team is one game away from the superbowl. The team that already made the superbowl your team has beaten before and matches up in favor of your team. The team your team is now facing is this soiler underdog. however your team loses by just a point. The team that goes on then GETS SLAUGHTERED 41 TO 10 to the other team in the superbowl. This team just ruined your chances because if your team would have gotten their they could have easily slaughtered the other team , winning the superbowl. Brit spears is that no talented team that JUST SPOILED your team from going.
The football metaphor doesn't wash because the team lost in head to head competition. An "L" is an "L" and in the playoffs, its elimination. If the best team lost, they will have to GET OVER IT.
If you want a good football metaphor, use the 1994 Penn State team as an example. Arguably the best offensive team in history goes undefeated and never gets a chance to play an outmatched Nebraska for the championship. Nebraska got a free ride and the championship, mostly because of the ultra-biased press.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
A prime example of close-minded, "in-the-box" thinking. If you were a football coach who made play calling decisions based on the percentage of times things were successful in the past, you would be predictable and easy to beat.metalrules wrote:Yes it is true you can still run zone and still send a man to cover him by running down the line of scrimmage. Is that what you want to happen with music?
... and then the wheel fell off.

Considering there is no critiqueing page on this message board and Amish guy chooses to thrust his pitch fork deep into our groins anyway, then I to make a challenge to Metalrules. However, my challenge is far different than Pumpkinhead's. I have a show in Lewsitown- the Log Cabin Inn- Saturday night starting at 9:00. My band name is No Limit, a am the lyricist/lead vocalist. My job outside of the musi industry- radio dj/personality. I will play many covers but I will also showcase 5 No Limit originals. Come out and judge me. Come out and critique me. Hell, bring your guitar and I'll give you stage time, JUST COME OUT AND SHOW YOUR EDUCATED ASS! It's time you put up or shut up!
Actions speak louder than words!!
Ron, I would not be running offenses based off of percentages.
Motion in the offense JUST LETS the offense know what type of D the Defense is running.
Certain pass plays work better in zone D than man to man. If you were a coach, quarter back, or any offensive player, wouldn't you want to know what the D was running.
When the offense is set, and the quarter back signals to start the motion man (usually by moving his leg) he is looking for answers to his questions.
1. This will show possibilities for him right off the bat. He can now quickly process better possibilities when the play is snapped. Pre reads, plus the knowledge of zone or man? will give him answers to question like
A) My primary target for the given play will most likely be covered on this given play. He will know of higher percentages of other options that might serve the play better. For example the TIGHT END might be the best option to go to when the play is snapped
B) Whether or not to call an AUDIBLE, changing the play at the line of scrimmage. Hence creating a better percentage play to score a TD or at least pick up a first down.

Man, that was a great team. They would have slaughtered Nebraska. I can still hear Bob Costas on NBC after the Nebraska win over a bad Miami team:lonewolf wrote:

"With this win, Tom Osborne has SURELY won the national title. You are watching a man get what he's so long deserved...blah, blah, blah..."
Nebraska should thank Bob Costas, for it was at that moment they won the title...PSU got screwed, no other way to put it...and that PSU team is still rated as one of the greatest of all time...that 1994 Nebraska team? never heard from again...
If youth knew; if age could.
