The Apple iPhone was officially announced today during Steve Job's MacWorld keynote address. The phone will be available in June as a Cingular Exclusive phone with pricing starting at $499 for a 4GB version and $599 for a 8GB version.

iPhone combines three products — a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching — into one small and lightweight handheld device. iPhone also introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and pioneering new software, letting you control everything with just your fingers. So it ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, completely redefining what you can do on a mobile phone.
I want it :)

It is awesome!

Standing in line this morning for 3+ hours to get into the Keynote was well worth it! Steve Jobs is like a rockstar!

John Mayer's performance was also great. I have a new respect for him. I never really dug his stuff until today.

Well, off to MacBlast! The tech party never stops at Macworld. 8)

Oh yeah, Kevin Smith was kind of surprisingly raunchy today. I didn't expect him to bring the "blue material" at a computer conference.

was john mayer the one on the chappelle show playing electric guitar so white people would dance?

I dislike john mayer's music a whole lot, but he is a good guitar player.

i'm not meaning to hi-jak but on the john mayer thing i never really dug his older stuff. which was gay in my opinion. i bought his new album continuum for my wife for christmas and i think it's damn good. he's done a big turn around. he's been hanging around with clapton abit, and this album really sounds like it to me. which isn't a bad thing. really good songs and production.

what do you mean by the term toolbox?

I agree. I've had my eye on the Zune, because I just hate apple so much. I hope microsoft doesn't wait forever to come out with a competitor for this like they did with the iPod.

Some of my friends will argue all day that if Steve Jobs was in Bill Gates position we'd pay $5000 for a shitty computer still. Not my opinion, I kind of like some of their products (iPod especially) and would buy a Mac if it wasn't out of my price range for the specs I want.

Does this mean that Line 6 will make a modeler shaped like a phone instead of an overgrown kidney bean?

When it comes to the techies, that thing is the bomb. The features are above anything. Personally I like it, and would get one.

As for an Ipod; I have a gen5 30 gig video and love it. I would buy another one anytime ... And yes, apple pc's are great. If they made more windows apps for them I would have switched a long time ago.

I'm a techie man, I'm not overly wanting to get one. It's too much $$ for me. Although the concepts in it (auto detecting & screen rotate) are cool. It's just too much $$ when I already have stuff that does the core functionality of what's there. I'd rather buy the pro-torque engine to get that GarageGames logo off of my startup screens for the games I do if I was allowed to blow the cash.

Just read this on MSN. Cisco Systems is suing Apple over the IPhone.

Those of you that have Ipods, what do you think of the quality of the music? Is it comparible to a cd played thru a Sony walkman? Or is it compressed and is missing highs and lows?

My lead singer has an IPod, and I hear it everday. It has a really good sound, just like a CD player.

That all depends on what you have the music encoded to. Different bit rates will make a diference in the sound quality ...

With the switch to Intel, you now have many opportunities to run Windows apps on a mac. Parallels Desktop & VMware allow you to run Windows interactively with OSX at very near native speeds. Parallels latest release has a feature called convergence that allows you to only see the program you are running on the Windows side while still running a Windows install over OSX.

CrossOver is a new product that allows you to run Windows apps without requiring a Windows install.

Awesome stuff.

Being a fan of OSX, what do you think of xGL? It's pretty freaking sweet if you ask me.
