Just another typical "critic". The all powerful, all knowing but has never done anything wannabe. It's easy to take apart a song that's already been written and "fix" it. Too bad all the hard work was already done for them. I'm sure metarules writes musical perfection. Just ask him. Yaawwwwwn.

You didn't come to rockpage to share your philosophies or opinions. What you are doing, and the reason everyone is upset, is because you are basically telling us that everything we know about music is wrong, and your way is the only correct way.
There is no right or wrong in music. Just because perhaps a lyric was (in your opinion) misplaced, or a timeline (in your opinion) is a bit out of whack doesn't mean that the person or persons that created it are idiots. But you seem hell-bent on making us conform you YOUR view of great writing and lyricism. There's nothing wrong with writing a song about a far-fetched subject. Hell, every listen to side 1 of Rush's "2112"? Ever listen to "Cygnus X-1"? "Ever listen to Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime" in it's entirety? Or anything from ELP? But then again, I suppose those are all sh*t records due to the "out-there" subject matter...
Music is a tool for expression, and part of the pure beauty of music is that there are no rules or boundaries for us to adhere to. We can write about any subject we want. And that in itself is beauty.
We are all well aware of the doors that can open for musicians if they are formally trained and educated. But you can't teach heart, and that's what a lot of guys around here have, and I'll stack up ANY of their abilities one on one against formal training any day.
Bottom line, you are preaching WAY too hard to us. We understand what you are trying to say, but you are simply coming across like you are a college professor with a PhD and we are all just idiot pre-schoolers. Dial your rhetoric back a few notches, be a little nice about things, and maybe you'll get a second chance around here.

Spoken like a true dumbass. That of course, using semantics to justify a point when you have obviously been backed into a corner. The tone from your post indicated that "You could" was a a postulated scenario of how Punkinhead would fall back on cliche metal riffs and then you would decimate him with your awesome playing of Skylark. It was not a rhetorical thought as you are now trying to pass it off. You already had a predefined idea of what Punkinhead's playing is like. That's why I like your post so much; you go on about detail and craft, yet you didn't take semantics into consideration until after someone pointed out your flaw.
BTW, I think you insulted Punkinhead first by saying he's one of those political correct people who think everything is good and that he "Can take that one to the bank, asshole".

I'm an objectional person, so I took another look at the "Understanding your instrument" thread. You started out by stating that readers are the superior players. Abeit, it had an arrogant undertone, but there's nothing wrong with being arrogant unlesss it exceeds a person's virtue. I responded by saying that reading music doesn't equate to understanding music and you tried to make it sound like the thread was about theory, not reading. *shrugs* Tyroon did attack you, probaly because of the elitist tone of the original post. Then there was an argument about Hendrix. You said he wasn't all that great of a player (nothing wrong with that, it's your opinion) and people responded by saying what Hendrix meant to them. Jimi Hatt found a paradox in your post, then on the next page Jimi comments on George Martin. After that post you say his comments are dumb and naive. Funny, Jimi didn't say anything mean sprited and you threw bile at him. That's not very consistent with your defense that everyone started on you. And we all know how you hate inconsistency. Then the rest of the thread is you telling us how we are naive and you go on to give us a prep course on how the music business is run.

To me THAT IS A SYMBOL OF LIMITATIONS HENCE NOT BEING GREAT.
Great players get the MOST out of their instrument. Now if you want to think Hendrix was a great player, I AIN'T STOPPING YOU. You go right ahead. That is your opinion.
All I am doing is POINTING OUT FACTS
1 Fact: His guitar soloing never got past pentatonic scales
2 Fact: He can't read
3 Fact: He couldn't tune his own guitar
4 Fact: he often played out of tune in concert
To me these are FACTS of why I dont think he was so great.
Hendrix could ONLY FUNCTION within his band. Hendrix could not sit down with a jazz quartet and play a song HE DIDN'T KNOW. Reason, HE COULDNT READ
