Rock Page Political Adversaries : Friends or Foes ?
Rock Page Political Adversaries : Friends or Foes ?
OR........Let's have a beer !
How many of you take these political threads / posts personally ?
Just for the record, I hold nothing personal towards anyone in any of my political rants. A couple of the guys that see things differently than I do are friends of mine.
lonewolf knows what happens in the threads is not personal and Robthedrummer and I are very good friends. We even joke about our different political views.
While I take my politics seriously, I could sit down and have a drink with anyone who is arguing with me. [Although we might discuss something other than politics]
And I hold no grudge if you think my views are asinine. (they're not)
Musicians have often taken political sides, so I don't think there is anything wrong with posting one's views on a music site. I haven't read the "pet peeve" thread, but I'm guessing "politics on Rock Page" is someone's pet peeve.
So do you take it personally, or find it a way to express your views and nothing more than that ?

I try not to get involved but I can't help myself and have to post my views. I don't get upset over it because I realize I'll probably not meet 90% of the people on here. I don't go out much.
However, I did meet Rob and I know Hawk and they're cool people and everyone is allowed to express one's opinion, which is why this country is great.
Have a nice weekend!

i don't get involved much with the political stuff on here. simply because i dont really care to argue cuz i am ignorant on alot of issues. ther was a time when i was really into politics and would have been right in there mixing it up with the hawks and the robs and the whoevers, but what i found was i always seemed to be pissed off about something
and i ended up just kind of backing away from it a bit and find myself not being so fucked off all the time, plus i have a buddy that is just nuts about that shit and he'll take any and i do mean any conversation and try to turn it into a political conversation and then want to argue and be all up in your face about it. very, very annoying. i just don't follow closely enough to feel i could get a foot hold in any conversation. although you all are alot of fun to watch
at this point in my life i have to save all my pissedoffness for head-butts from my daughter(ouch) and tripping over toys and such
i vote and kinda try to keep up with whats goig on best i can but i'm not going to be jumpin into any arguements any time soon. i'll leave that up to you guys
peace

The only thing sadder than a clueless fuck politician saying that they can solve any problem more complex than getting elected is the unfortunate citizen who believes them.

it would be real easy to get pissed on here but in reality the guy on the other end raveing could be laughing and smiling while i or you is red in the face. Yes at first sometimes i think everyone reads into posts personally but i would hope it was left on here and never transitioned off rockpage.net

HAHA, so far, this one gets my vote for post of the year!DirtySanchez wrote:Nothing on the Intertnet is serious. (except porn)
But, our President is a retard and if you don't think so, piss off. hehe.
Anyways, we all have our different views, but that's why this country is great. Some places will cut out your tongue if you speak negatively towards others. Be thankful for that. I consider Bill to be an inspiration and a great friend, I like tormenting him now and then. I can be an asshole sometimes, (normally not with the politcal stuff) but I do try to not get personal against anyone. I like to throw out my veiws and see how they are rebutted. All in good fun!

Yeah but at the end of the day -- who we gonna give this country too? As much as I hate the politicians.. I sure as hell don't want Scooby Doo or Jeff Probst running things around here..undercoverjoe wrote:Amen. I've mentioned before that I like my Rockpage political foils. UCJoe and I hang out occasionally, I met RobDrummer in Vegas last year to hang out, and Lonewolf's one of the smartest guys you ever met.
The kicker: When I hang with these guys, we NEVER discuss politics. Cool, huh! We're music lovers ans musicians, and we're so enthusiastic about that stuff that we don't have time to talk politics.
Great post, and great point to be made.----->JMS

There was a point a few years ago, surrounding the last Presidential election, when I became irritated with all the political sparring on Rockpage. I joined a chorus of folks wanting to see separate forums for political arguments, or the elimination of political threads altogether. But then, one evening during a show, a prominent local musician sat down and explained to me that as a musician, he valued the political threads on Rockpage as an opportunity to see how his fellow musicians felt about the issues of the day. It opened my eyes, and I slid off the anti-political thread bandwagon.
I usually won't post on political threads myself, because I don't know or understand everything going on in our complex government, society or world, and I don't have the answers. But I respect the rights of Rockpagers to air their passions and viewpoints, and debate the issues. And as long as there's mutual respect among the participants and it doesn't descend into viciousness, threats and namecalling, I have no problems with folks discussing the issues here. This is a community, and ultimately everybody gets to know everyone else a little bit better through these discussions.
Now those damn teflon threads, that's another story...
