Well, some would argue that grass could also be blue, i.e. "bluegrass" for instance. Also, keith, your grass could be green with red hairs in it....Another would say the sky is also a variety of colors all coming together to create blue. I believe the sky is a combination of green and yellow. Of course, I've seen the sky be grey, orange, red, purple, pink, and black at night. It all depends on what school of thought you derive.

The blues used to be black music, then it became white music. But it's never been embraced by blue people. Blue people prefer weird percussive music in Vegas.

Here is something interesting to think about: When you look at the sky at night, it is black, with the stars and the moon forming points of light on that black background. So why is it that, during the day, the sky does not remain black with the sun acting as another point of light? Why does the daytime sky turn a bright blue and the stars disappear?

The first thing to recognize is that the sun is an extremely bright source of light -- much brighter than the moon. The second thing to recognize is that the atoms of nitrogen and oxygen in the atmosphere have an effect on the sunlight that passes through them.

There is a physical phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering that causes light to scatter when it passes through particles that have a diameter one-tenth that of the wavelength (color) of the light. Sunlight is made up of all different colors of light, but because of the elements in the atmosphere the color blue is scattered much more efficiently than the other colors.

So when you look at the sky on a clear day, you can see the sun as a bright disk. The blueness you see everywhere else is all of the atoms in the atmosphere scattering blue light toward you. (Because red light, yellow light, green light and the other colors aren't scattered nearly as well, you see the sky as blue.)

I have been just a reader for awhile now but I felt I had to post to this one, I can't believe how dumb some of you seem to be.

Well Kent, it's well documented that I am an existentialist. By that definition, each experience is defined by the individual. Because of that, I would disagree that the sky, in whatever abstract being, contains an instrinsic property that is "blue." Rather, we have rods and cones within our eyes that perceive certain bands of light and in turn, our brains assign a certain texture of color. If a person were color blind and did not percieve the color blue, would we say they were wrong? What if everyone in the world were colorblind? See where I'm going with this?

It's like how some people think that an SWR bass rig sounds sterile, but others percieve it as songing modern and hifi.

p.s. Thanks for lending me the Timothy Leary book. It will be some good reading during winter break.

Toona, I don't think making comments like that are called for, If you feel so badly about yourself that you increse your self esteem by bashing me then I fell sorry for you. It's all about love my brother and if you don't know that I will pray for you.

It is blue because we can see blue. For a deer it is rather gray. For a bumble bee it has a purplish tint.

For the preditor in Arnold's movie, it looked black.

Why is this even an argument. Haha. The sky is blue because thats the way our perception works. Im sure if we had heat sensitive vision it would be a different color. I dont see why people are getting in fights over a stupid subject like this. If you are gonna fight, at least do it over something worthwhile, like something keith says.

Who originally "bashed" whom? Does it need 'splained? Okay. See, you said "I can't believe how dumb some of you seem to be.", and then Kevin said what I originally thought, but thought better of posting. :D Many of us know each other, and while we may bash one another on RockPage, at least we know who is doing the bashing. It's one big, happy family here, dysfunction and all! Kev, I believe the "happy idiot clap" will do nicely now!
