Favorite song you currently play?
So what is your favorite song you are currently playing? I guess what I mean is what is your favorite tune to play right now and why?
Long Haired Country Boy- Charlie Daniels
Old ass tune, it just kicks some ass, fun to play, even some odd meter, and we just learned it so it's fresh.

Don't Fear The Reaper
It has lots of different parts (we do the long version) and we do it with 3 part harmonies as a 3 piece band. It is a musical challenge to play it and sing it with all the overlapping vocal parts. Lots of fun to play and people really get into the song. The only thing it needs is more cowbell.

thats so hard to narrow down. My favorite is when my tastes and the audience tastes collide, and they go nuts for a song that I also love playing.
in the running:
Beat it by Michael Jackson, I know it sounds gay, but you havn't heard michael jackson done like this, and people just absolutely love it.
White Room by Cream, I don't think the audience likes this quite as much as I do, but its close. I love the solo. You have to give mad respect to cream, the solo is just pure craziness. It was was a real issue when we first learned it to keep it all tight while still going into total craziness. For the month or two that we were a one guitar band I basically had to relearn the whole solo.
The Echos by us, crowds seem to actually enjoy this, and I love that something I had a hand in creating can stand up to some of the best (in my opinion) songs of the past 5 decades or so.
Right Here in My Arms by H.I.M. I don't know if anyone even knows this song when we play it, but they seem to enjoy it. its just a kickass fast rock song. Its a total blast to play.

Stand back, I like to rock out.
"Attention Please" Caroline's Spine
Great band, great song. Blast to play and even people who don't know
it dig it. BTW, they have a new album coming out in the not-too-distant future.
"Sister Havana" Urge Overkill
Think we're adding it to the next set list.
"Mountain Song" Jane's Addiction
Gets nixed a good bit because Perry Farrell's vocal thing is rough,
but it's fun to play when it's not your vocal cords.
"Not An Addict" K's Choice
I like having a bunch of parts and textures to throw in and this is great tune for that.
"Hurt" Nine Inch Nails
Same as above...with more feedback. LOVE the feedback.
"Addiction" VENT
New one. Hope to get it in the set soon along with a couple of others. But, this
one in particular I think'll be fun live.
Honourable mention to any P.J., S.T.P. or A.I.C. we do. Have a great time playing
Offspring stuff but it's hard on singers. Big old sissies.
Way back some 15 years or so ago the band I was in did a few Cream tunes (Along
with a bunch of Hendrix, Zep, Floyd, etc. All guitar solo, all the time). They are a blast.
Would like to see E.C. to plow through "White Room".

Damn good song! I love Jane's Addiction, highly underrated band! I'd like to do some of their stuff. Of course, we'd have to put some special directions on the setlist for the soundguy: Please put tons of reverb and delay on lead vocal channel.VENTGtr wrote: "Mountain Song" Jane's Addiction

We do Self-Esteem and dropped it a half of step from the original recording. Dexter Holland isn't a great technical singer, but he has unbelievable power in his voice. Scott Stapp (please don't kick my ass for saying that) is another cat like that who comes to mind.Have a great time playing

Obviously, there are songs I enjoy playing more than others, but I'm happy as long as the band's sounding tight, the energy's there, and the crowd's reacting. I don't care what I'm playing. I love music and performing way too much. I'd play polka if that were the only thing left to play.

Okay here's three:
Jailbreak - Thin Lizzy - I've always wanted to do this song & I finally got the chance with my current band. Even if people don't dance to it, I know they like it. The legendary Brian Downey is an under-rated, sadly often over-looked drumming icon. But not to me & Thin Lizzy is one of my favorite bands. Also, Brian Downey may be the finest drummer to ever play a rock shuffle. Just listen to "The Boys Are Back In Town" & you'll see what I mean.
My Sharona - The Knack - A great well-known dance tune. Ask any drummer, to play it right, you've got to "Get The Knack". In other words, you've got to be right on to pull it off effectively as the song has many parts to negotiate. The late Bruce Gary was an inspiration to me growing up & I've always loved his great, energetic drumming.
Sober - Tool - An intense, heavy song that many people are really into. It took me aback somewhat when I first heard it but now I really like it. Some people simply go nuts when we play it, it's very cool to get that kind of reaction. The master technician Danny Carey is schooling all drummers on this tune.
I'll be the first to admit, I can't play any of these tunes as good as the original drummer, but I've made my adjustments. I do the best that I can with my own style & they're all good to go.

I've drank enough beer to float a battleship! Go ahead and Rock & Roll all night if you can but don't party every day!
Good Hearted Woman by Boxcar Willie. I absolutely love jamming on this song with Lies, Inc...it captures all the angst embodied by girls who date band guys around the world. Boxcar Willie was truly a prophet of the difficulties of modern living.

Whoopsie...Paul just informed me that Good Hearted Woman is actually a Waylon Jennings tune...sorry about that.

Both are great tunes, "Jailbreak" too!
Those who know me realize I'm not Musically inclined, but the current fav tunes I keep playing over and over - and it's a pissah 'cause they're on a cassette - are "Outward Bound" by Sonny Landreth (I was informed it's called "harmonics", the way he utilizes the Guitar to sound so amazing - hope I spelled his name correctly.

Agreed. I'd like to pick up something else by them. Mebbe "Ocean Song" orbassist_25 wrote:I love Jane's Addiction, highly underrated band!
something from "Ritual" like "Stop". Ya, that vocal sound is kind of singular
to Farrell though. "Just Because" from their last album was really cool. I need
to pick that CD up.
Ya, that's a great one. A prior band did it, "Gone Away" and...at least one otherWe do Self-Esteem and dropped it a half of step from the original recording.
and they all went over really well all the time. Singer now's more of a singer than
a screamer. Agree about Holland. You know his voice the second you hear it.
Same with Farrell...which is a nice early warning for some people.
I should look into getting something by them in the setlist.
Ya, there are tunes we do that I really don't care for much but people dig them.
That ends up making for it generally. As long as they're not like a total deaprture
from anything any of us like I'm fine with it. There have been songs in the past I
didn't care much for but we're fun to play and there have been the total reverse.
Odd, but happens.
