The area music scene loses an avid fan...

Post by Jim Price »

I just received some sad news. A friend and fan of the area music scene, Steve Lockard, passed away on Tuesday of an apparent heart attack at his home. He had just celebrated his 63rd birthday on Dec. 4. His funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 9 AM at the Cathedral in Altoona.

Steve was a music fan, especially the blues. He was a big fan of Felix & the Hurricanes, Half Tempted, Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys, and other local blues and classic rock performers. He frequently attended shows with his daughter, Kim; and often took in shows at Peter C's and the Hitching Post. He also regularly attended outdoor events like "End Of Summer Jam," festivals and more.

The last time I saw Steve was this past October at the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival. He and Kim came out to see Norman Nardini, and Steve had me laughing uncontrollably as he cheered on an old lady in a walker who was dancing in front of the stage.

Kim Lockard called me with the news this afternoon (Thurs.). She said she and her mother are holding up okay given the circumstances.

My sincerest condolences to Kim, her mom, and all of Steve's family and friends. As Steve was a big Stevie Ray Vaughan fan, Kim said he's probably watching Stevie Ray jam in the heavens right now...

Here is a picture of Steve and Kim, as they took in the "End Of Summer Jam" in Cresson in 2005:

Fly on Brother Steve

Condolences to Kim and her family. Steve always treated my little guitar slingin' brother and myself like royalty. He was a class act that will be sadly missed. Steve, whenever you look down upon us, know we'll be hoisting a few for you Bro!
P.S. Put in a good word for us with The Man and see if anybody up there needs an couple of axe slingers so we can have some gigs lined up in advance.

Kim called us while we were gone, Steve was a music lover and we will miss him coming out to see us. You just cant beat fans like him.
The last i seen him he showed me pics with Eric Johnson at a show they attended. Eric even replied personally to him which was very cool.
Kim has a birthday coming up tomorrow and will spend it burying her father...

Steve was a great guy, who always supported me when I was jamming with Felix, Jeff, and Bobby. Always a kind word, and always so excited about the live music! You will be missed, Steve.

Felix and the boys did play some Steevie Ray Vaughn in memory of Steve last night at Victory Lane. It had to be one be of the best preformances of a live band I have ever seen. Period.

The Hurricanes should be touring the USA playing huge clubs, they are that good. They played about an hour and half set, going from one song to the next without ever stopping, mixing covers and originals seamlessly. People were dancing so hard they were falling over.

Thanks Joe! Your awesome man!
Just you being there pushes us, we know you know....ya know? LOL
You've suffered through enough of our bad ones.

Kim was up tonite and we dedicated the night to Steve.
Birthday wishes after her tragic week was just heartbreaking...

Bill and Kev, wasnt it cool that Steve was there for every Hurricanes rhythm section including Johnny, Jason and Tar Berardinelli and Phil K.

Everyone love your fans and friends this week, everyone gets a turn to go someday.

Losing your beloved Father is rough, but wow...to have to go through that part on your birthday besides... I don't know if I ever met Kim or her Dad, but I hope she takes some comfort in what have to be the awesome memories of all the great Music she was able to share with him. Condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Kim, her family and all of Steve's friends.
