Yes or No...
I was at the pony lounge in jtown sat the 11th and Jimmy Sweatpants was playing. If you don't know they play pop music. There was a small pushing match with 2 drunk dudes. Then all of the sudden people were yelling and screaming and diving and running around. One of the dudes pulled a gun and droped it on the floor. Thankfully, the safety was on and it did not go off. If it would have who know's me or other people could have gotten shot.
My question do you think that all clubs/bars should start using some type of metaldetector? Even if it is hand held or the big one's. Now I know some places may not be able to afford it but there must be a company that you can rent to own or something. What do you think???

Awhile back I walked in the Castle Pub and they started running one of those over me. At first I thought " what the F%^* " and I was kinda pissed but after I thought about it I Figured it might not be such a bad idea. Unfortunatly its a screwed up world we live in and I think we may be at the point where some of the more popular clubs should start using them. There's too many idiots out there these days and although I don't really like it I do think its time these clubs start using them.
Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.

Sounds Like.....
Seen this before over the years...sure you weren't at Bar 53?
About 11 years ago, I went to the bar in Black Moshannon with a co-worker and her husband. No fights broke out....a rare night there. When we got back to their house, I used the restroom before heading home and when I came back out to the living room, her husband was removing the gun that he had tucked away in the back of his pants. I quickly departed. I would never go back out with them again or to that bar because of that. She was in a violent marriage to begin with and wasn't allowed to come out of her corner to dance or anything so I figured it wasn't there just for his safety.
As a bar owner, I hope that we never have to check everyone at the door for weapons. We've only had about two fights in our bar since we took it over (two years). And those brothers are not allowed back in our bar. No weapons were ever involved. But if our area was known for fights with weapons, I suppose we would have to look at doing something.

AHHHH The Moshannon Park Inn
I loved this bar. Saw I guy pick on an old man, get his ass kicked by the old mans sons, leave, come back 30 minutes later with a gun. Luckily the old man and his sons left. That was 15 years ago. So.... have things changed? If you want the gun in the bar you'll find a way. I'm not sure that a wand or detector of any kind will keep the peace..
I watched a similar situation in a club in Massachusetts we played in back
in the late 80's. This guy was causing shit all night and was ejected several
times, only to return later to cause more trouble. He eventually came back with a gun (357 mag.) and I was on break standing in entryway talking with a staff member. The guy brandished the gun in our faces,
and stated he was looking for the guy he was previously fighting with.
The man then proceeded to fire two shots into the floor. Within seconds,
multiple State and local police cars arrived and swarmed the guy. They
managed to get the weapon from him (somehow) and dragged him into the parking lot beating him the whole way. It was beautiful!!! That SOB got what he deserved, and as far as I was concerned (in this case) no police brutality involved! I nearly wet/shit myself when he fired the gun off.
My closest call with this type of situation, but I've seen plenty of guns
in bars. Alcohol and guns don't mix! Tough problem to solve though.

i remember about 12-15 years ago hanging out in phoenix, az and it seemed like everybody and everybody was packin. not covered and concealed either, on the hip in a holster, ready to go. fuckin crazy. made me really uncomfortable. it relly did seem like the old west. kind of. they must have some different laws or something out there.
i don't own a gun right now,but with a family now i feel like i should. just for protection. i would hate if somebody would come into my house uninvited and i had no way to protect my family. i've been kickin it around for a while. any suggestions on a good piece for protection.
i was thinking shotgun.

My personal feelings on the matter: Wave the wands ... better safe than sorry. We've ix-nayed certain venues (naming no names here) over the years due to the "violent nature" of the regulars and are currently screening potential new venues (again, no names) for their reputations as being "rough bars." No gig is worth getting shot, IMHO.
On the matter of protecting your family by purchasing a gun (and wow, this is gonna get the debate flowing), I've never been an advocate of getting a gun to thwart possible break ins. There are too many things that could happen besides you keeping an attacker at bay.
• Young children can kill themselves if they get a hold of the gun,
• The attacker/intruder has the advantage because he knows he's there; you are the one taken by surprise, then you have to retrieve the gun and get ready to act, which leads to my last point ...
• You could be disarmed and, heaven forbid, the guy only had nail clippers when he came in to steal your TV. Now he has a gun with which to kill you and your family.
Baseball bats are very effective in knocking a guy the f@#k out.
Other thoughts?

Ya, I remember the place well. Played there a good many times.
USUALLY, was a lot of fun...except for the freakin' losers who owned it.
But, like many places around there, it's always 5 seconds from a fight...
though another place in the vicinity was well-known for some hellacious
girl-fights.
We were playing there one night and one girl was trying to kick the women's
bathroom door in to get to another. Did it to.
"I loved this bar."
Haven't seen Ryan in close to 15 years. Good to see he's still nuts.
Hilarious.

baddaze,
i dig what your saying but ..... if someone breaks in my house to steal my tv with nailclippers or what have you. that is a threat to me and i'm not going to take the time to find out what kind of weapon you happen to bring. you break into my houe, you die. it's just a little policy i have.
i'm thinkin why your winding up your baseball bat, the attacker just pumped 5 rounds in you. and then what?
it's a dreadful thing to even think about. scarey. i hope none of us are ever in that situation. i hate to even think about it. i'm loking for peace and harmony, but put in that situation, i'll do whatever it takes to protect my family.

All I'm saying is don't give the guy something to kill your family with while you're trying to protect them.mjb wrote:... in that situation, i'll do whatever it takes to protect my family.
Most times, burglars aren't coming in to kill or take hostages, they just want the loot, which means they're usually not toting. If backed into a corner, however, your garden variety burglar can be easily nudged toward becoming a third-degree murderer, especially if you hand the guy a piece.
Of course, an unloaded firearm presented with attitude would make 99.99999 percent of uninvited guests piss their pants as they run for the window they climbed in through.

I know two families who have lost children due to gun accidents.
One family, the father was cleaning his gun when it went off and shot his daughter who was sleeping in the next room in the head. This was not a hunting gun. Just a gun he kept around.
Another one, a boy showing off his father's gun. Friend will never forget the look on the boy's face when as he was carefully handing the gun to the friend it went off and hit himself in the chest.
I also know a kid who took his own life. He was a dear friend of mine. No, having the gun in the house did not kill him...or did it.
Each of these families thought they were doing the right things when it came to gun safey. They talked and educated their children. Because each of these house owners wanted a gun in the home as a form of protection, they have lost a child. Talked with each of these families later in life and they all say they wish they would have found a better way...they have never had a robbery or felt as if they were a victim of any crime in their home. It wasn't worth it.
Hunting guns are different. You can lock them up...keep locks on them until you are going out hunting. A gun in the house for protection....most think its not worth locking them up.

I would be lying if I said I know the answer to that.
As far as I know, there is no state law that says that you can't. But as a bar owner, I would not permit it.
I do not believe that PLCB has anything on this...I can search their site. But if there is a state or local law prohibiting it, any bar that violates the law would put their license in danger.
That's a very good question.

I'm kind of on the fence on the gun issue.
I do believe in responsible firearm ownership, and I do have firearms in my house, including a pistol for family protection. I'm a responsible gun owner, and keep my guns safely cleaned, unloaded and locked away, in a safe with trigger guards on all of them.
But, I am also a supporter of gun control. I don't believe that anyone needs a fully automatic H&K MP5 or a Colt AR-15 for protection. Don't give me the old "Right To Bear Arms" speech on this one. Fully automatic weapons should only be utilized by law enforcement and the military, period. You don't need a bazooka to kill a deer, or a SPAS Automatic Shotgun to protect your family. If a bad guy breaks in, and you can't hit him with one shot or a double-tap, you're f*cked anyway.
I do think that metal detectors would be great for bars. I don't know about payment options, I do think that the state or PLCB should be responsible for picking up part of the cost.
I see what BDRob is saying, and he makes some valid points. Having any type of weapon makes it possible for a situation to turn ugly and put your family at risk. But then again, we all have kitchen knives, so there are weapons out in the open that can be used by a burgler against your loved ones.
Just my 2 cents.
