In my tireless quest to fit an entire stage show into a shoebox, I have run across LED lights. Anybody use them?
Do these have enough lux to flood a small stage or are these just useful as FX lights?

LED Lights?
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
The only LED stage lights I've seen in actual use were stage washes at the James Cotton show last year in J-town. I don't recall them being all that bright, and they were rather large. I know they make LED Par's now, but I've never seen them in use. Man, they'd be great, though... no heat, very light, very tough mechanically, and never replace a bulb.
I read recently that the curly-cue fluorescents are still the most efficient light source... LED's are very directional, but the fluorescents give a lot of light in every direction... lumens per watt is still higher.
Does anyone know if the curly-cues cause hum like the old tubes?----->JMS

John and I just installed an LED light show at Irish Kevins. They aren't as bright as I thought they'd be. We put 12 Chauvet color splash jr. lights and 4 bigger color splash's. They put color on the performers but the 2 par 64's (no gels, used for spots) are way brighter. The ones you should check out that act most like par cans are made by American DJ. They are like 600 or 700 dollars each. They last about 10 years before you have to worry about changing a bulb. RGB (red green blue) color mixing gives you many colors in one can. You can get the American DJ ones in white and colored. Pro Sound and Stage Lighting (awsome mail order company) offered to pay shipping both ways so we could check them out. Hope this helped you lonewolf.
