I think that I've said this before, but sometimes you have to get up on a stage in front of a crowd that isn't automatically accepting. I think that sometimes we all get immersed in these little scenes, which on the positive are very close; on the negative though, they sometimes make us a little too relaxed. I know what the feeling is like walking into a new venue and as I roll my cabinets onto the stage, I see the "so what can these guys do?" look on people's faces. It can be an intimidating feeling. It's the ice you have to break, and I've seen a lot of bands fail miserably at doing it. The fanbases of new bands usually consist of friends, families, and co-workers. There's a time when you have to move beyond that and put everything to the test: Your songs, your musicianship, your showmanship.
city is cool too we will be playing there with four days dirty coming up here on the 2nd of dec and i guarentee that will be a damn good show too.. claudio seems like a cool fucking guy. i just gotta get some flyers ready to post every where during their dj nights so i can grab some stragglers who wouldn't usually here music like ours
Definitely put up some flyers before Toys for Tots Benefit at City this Saturday (I promise, that wasn't an attempt for me to shamelessly promote ;) ). There's going to be a lot of music lovers in the house that night that I'm sure would dig coming out to check out you the following week. The 2nd, I'm actually off that night. I think I may have to come to City then and check out what's going on.

Yeah! Beyond Reason sucks!

All that band does is take shots at people and spout their political and religious beliefs. Geezlouise - I wish they would just be quiet for awhile.

Nothing they say is valid, and it is all just a waste of time and energy.

Especially that bass player - what a homo!

No, I wasn't taking stabs at you - How could I do that if I don't even know you.

I made a promise to myself not to post when drinking - I guess I broke my promise. Not that that it is an excuse or anything, but I always come off the wrong way when I have alcohol coursing through my system.

Anyway, I guess what I really wanted to say was that people around this area just want to hear what they are used to. (see my reference to Freebird).

Some of it may be the style of music as well and there were many other good points made in this thread.

I think this topic comes up every so many months because I remember this same type of discussion in the past.

Anyway, don't be offended by things I say on here - most of the people that know me already know that I'm an asshole and just disregard those kind of posts. So, I'm sorry if I ticked you off or anything , I didn't mean to.

And as far as what DMFJ03 had to say: I agree 100%, our bassist is a homo!!!

I dont know how well any of you know 2nd Offense's tunes but ive seen them many, many times. I strongly believe that they are one of the best metal bands in the state of Pennsylvania. And id bet both my legs on that.

The 'scenes' as you call them are just like the seasons. They change. Du Bois is a great place to play....if you can drag folks in. Apathy reighns. And its just not here. I went clear to State College and still had the same old problem. If you can make a show look attractive enough people will come.

Folks here stop me often to scream 'get an emo band and ill come' and ill do em one better. Ill throw a few of em on the floor and no one comes. Mean while, i get 2nd Offense and a few others on the floor and people come crawling in off the street. I think 2nd Offense only played one show for me in Du bois where we didnt see 40 people. And that was the very first Primate-Studios show. (way back in December of 04).

I think its just apathy. Ive been working around the public for a very long time and ive seen it over and over. And the grass isnt any greener somewhere else. The only opinion i have on the matter is to try and make it look appealing and pound the info into peoples heads.

Its cool that you like your band, i like your band too. If every post i posted Condemned stuff, you'd see my point.

I say promote as much as possible. Rockpage is a promo tool, and not enough people realize that.

I agree, but if there's an opportunity to promo a show in the general forum, I say take. For example, when Fretboard was asking about bands in Altoona.

what exactly is a correct forum...u would think this would fall under that category...considering that its general discussion and he did start this topic and it was pretty much about the local scene for bands....common sense... :? ...
