hey does anyone else here like Iced Earth? I was listening to 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' ...and thats such an awesome cd!!
i have heard other Iced Earth CDs, but SWTWC is the only one i have. anyway, i have become quite the wikipedia addict recently and decided to look the band up too. As it turns out, Matt Barlow...who sang for Iced Earth for a long time (and on the record i mentioned) has become a cop!!! Shaved his head and everything. Nothing against cops, but WOW. Thats not even the weirdest part, he is in an ALL cop band and sings for them. I CANNOT believe thats the guy that sang on Iced Earth's SWTWC!!
heres a link on the cop band. http://www.firststateforce.org/band.html

ANYWAY! 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' is such a cool album. AWESOME riffs! killer drums! Powerful vocals!

I was never a huge fan, though they are a good band. Shaffer's riffs always sounded like they were borrowed from whatever Iron Maiden album he was listening to at the time. Nevermore on the other hand is a very cool band.

The 'Something Wicked...' album was the one that introduced me to them, and I still love it; it totally rips, and seems to never get old for me. Haven't pulled it out in a while, thanks for reminding me!
When I was still into singing, I always thought it would have been cool to put a metal band together and cover Burning Times, and maybe even Melancholy. Disciples of the Lie, Reaping Stone, and Watching Over Me are also favorites of mine from that album.
The album after that, "Horror Show", was a bit disappointing. Their cover album, "Tribute To The Gods" was cool. Glorious Burden was ok, but I really miss Barlow's vocals. As for older stuff, their first one wasn't too bad, their original singer was interesting. "Colors" is a good tune from that one, and the Barlow-fronted remake of it from "Days of Purgatory" was cool as well.
Oh, and if you can, seek out their cover of Sabbath's "Electric Funeral". It wasn't on their cover album, but instead was on the "Melancholy" EP. (along with a decent cover of Bad Company's "Shooting Star".) They take the song and make it their own, and it sounds awesome.

When Iced Earth's original singer left, Altoona's Todd Giornesto was slated to be their new vocalist. Not sure what happened, but Matt Barlow ended up getting the job instead. I like Barlow quite a lot, but he sounds a little too much like Paul Stanley sometimes. It would have been cool to hear Giornesto on the "Something Wicked..." CD.
If you like IE, you should also check out Jon Schaefer's other band called Demons & Wizards.
