Stuff like that happens all the time... your skin gets thicker with time. Ignore the sliver under your skin, grasshopper, and it will work itself out on it's own. :) ------->JMS

I know it happens.. just thought it might have been a good topic to go with. ::shrugs:: I'm probably just going to get my butt kicked for bringing it up on here. But thanks for the positive thoughts of being thick skinned!

With bands, especially young bands, it does happen all of the time. It's a freak of nature to find someone in a band who hasn't been kicked out of or had to kick someone out of a band. The tension happens so often with young bands because the members are still discovering their talent and taste. It's part of the game of musical discovery. Move on... find new people... go to a John McKnight benefit show and mingle ( truly shameless plug ).

Hey JMS... isn't it cool how getting older makes all of those old Chinese proverbs make more sense?
... and then the wheel fell off.

Here's my 2 cents on this:

A band is like a marriage and when members leave or get asked to leave a band it's VERY much like a divorce. Feelings get hurt, it becomes personal, The only thing worse than going through all that, is keeping a guy around who isn't good for the band, or staying in a band that's not going where you wanna be. I've been on both sides of it and there's nuthing good about it. I have stayed in bands when I wasn't happy and ended up hating the other guys for it. I've kept guys around that weren't into what we were doing and that sucks.

In time, all that passes, hopefully, and when you run into these same people again days, weeks, months or even years later, hopefully you will remember them fondly or at least be civil but sometimes it just opens old wounds.

On my best days, I think fondly of Everybody I've ever played with (Yes, even him) and I wish them well and hope they are happy doin what they are doing. On my less than best days, I'm less than that generous with my thoughts (let he who is without sin cast the first stone on that one).

It's easy to SAY "Dude, move on", but it's hard to actually DO it. That goes for both the guy leaving and the rest of the band. This is a very human business we are in.

Great post, I reminds me to be grateful for Randy Ketner and Jeff Van Clief, the guys I'm playin with now. Tonight (2/14) at the Cantina, (Shameless plug)

Apparently, and this is happening as we speak, you hit a place in your life when all the crap you ignored when you were 20 starts making perfect sense, and you realize just how much influence your parents had on you, how close your ideals are to what theirs were. Jeez, I hate admitting that, it makes me feel old!----->JMS

I don't know; I think you either rebel or conform to your environment. Now, my father disliked how his father was, so he made a conscious effort not be like him. I have parts of my father, parts of my mother, and other things that are completely arbitrary to my family, in my personality. It's strange though, my family is kind of opposite of the stereotypical gender roles. My father is the more emotional one and my mother's the stolid one. I wouldn't say they have highly developed animas/animuses, just pyschological shaping from their environements. I'm more aware of my father's past, though. My mother doesn't talk very much about her childhood.
