i'll side with toona on this
Yo, why you be hatin' on da hip hop? Gangsta's like Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer bring street poetry to da masses, G! Word to ya motha.
I agree good sir. This Gangster chap has littered this fine page with his putrid syntax. He is not a very good representation of grammatical correctness on the Internet, and I for one feel ashamed to be on the same page as him.
If plain and proper English is what you seek, I am the purveyor of such. You're welcome.
the term "rock n' roll" was of course coined by the DJ Alan Freed in the 1950's, and at the time pertained to new style of music that was pervading the airwaves....
The term is not strictly defined as this style or that style, rather as a collective term
As it stands, these artists, and the other artists nominated or inducted all fit the mold of "rock n' roll"
Grandmaster Flash was an early and very successful pioneer in rap.....which was an offshoot of rock, blues, and god knows what else...Linkin Park rap, are they not rock n' roll then?
To wonder why artists such as Styx or Robin Trower or Kansas have not been nominated is relatively obvious - they did not make any pioneering difference or huge lasting impact on "rock n' roll"
Rock n' roll is not just the four on the floor/power chord nonsense that we all love and indulge in - it's a broad spectrum of music - and to say that Motown wasn't rock n' roll is ridiculous - look at how many Motown tunes the Stones covered .....that was the rock n' roll that gave us rock n' roll through the Beatles and Stones, who begat Zeppelin and Sabbath, who begat Metallica, Aerosmith, and GNR, who begat Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and AIC, who begat Korn and Linkin Park, who begat Avenged Sevenfold and My Chemical Romance......it's all relative and it will always continue mutating
Do I think Rush and Deep Purple and Priest deserve to be in there - hell yeah - and they will probably get their due as well (probably Rush before the others)......it took the mighty Sab a few tries as well
Do I agree with the nominees - not really - but I can see where they are trying to come from.....but it still seems to me that they are getting some important artists in there each year - this year it's REM, The Stooges, and Van Friggin Halen.....if they at least can do this each year, then all of my favorites will inevitably get their due......
