2007 Rock Hall Nominees Announced

Post by moxham123 »

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2007 nominees were announced and they will select the inductees from this group. There are many well deserving artists still missing from induction.

2007 Rock Hall Nominees Announced
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2007 induction nominees. They are:

Chic
Dave Clark Five
R.E.M.
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
The Ronettes
Patti Smith
The Stooges
Joe Tex
Van Halen

This is the second year that Chic, the Dave Clark Five, Grandmaster Flash, Patti Smith, and Joe Tex have been nominated.

Over 500 music executives and artists will vote on the final five nominees, which will be announced in January. The induction ceremony will be held in New York City on March 12, 2007. The ceremony is usually simulcast at the Rock Hall in Cleveland.

Damned right Songsmith, and what about some others like Grand Funk Railroad, The James Gang, Marshal Tucker, Charlie Daniels Band and Robin Trower, just to name a few more of my favorites.

The Rock-N-Roll Hall Of Fame is a complete and utter fucking joke. I utterly refuse to give them any of my respect, attention or business. Why? Look at this year's nominees:
Chic
Dave Clark Five
R.E.M.
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
The Ronettes
Patti Smith
The Stooges
Joe Tex
Van Halen
The Ronettes = Motown, not Rock-N-Roll.
Grandmaster Flash = Rap, not Rock-N-Roll.
Chic = Funk/Disco, not Rock-N-Roll.

This is all just a ploy to get over-hyped and over-rated artists some attention. The good bands are not there, as mentioned in some above posts, the most glaring omissions being KISS, Judas Priest, Purple and Rush.

Songsmith,

The good news is that Z Z Top did get inducted in 2004. Here is the link to the complete list of inductees.

The bad news is all the artists who have been overlooked. I agree Kev but i could say Priest was Heavy metal and not r&r either.
Music is music without genre in the hall of fame.
But they do have fucked up choices.

It is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I think they should do seperate ones for different genres. Just like Football or Baseball Hall of Fames. The R&R Hall of Fame should be to Rock and around the sub-genres of rock. They should have a Rap Hall of Fame. It's essentially like having a Sports Hall of Fame. They would overlook a lot of great players because of the large pool.

I agree 100%. Music doesn't live in a vaccum. Rock 'n roll's a bastard style of music anyways. If you want to get technical, it should be called The Blues, Southern Gospel, and Early Country Western Hall of Fame, because that's were a lot of rock music came from. If you play any form of rock music, be sure to pay your respects to Mississippi Fred McDowell and Hank Williams Sr., because chances are you may not be playing the music that you are without them.

But I really don't get caught up in things like the RnR Hall of Fame or the Grammies. It's just the music industry kissing its own ass and congradulating the artists who sold the most units that year. It's like winning a battle of the bands. It really doesn't mean shit in the real world.

Rush not being put up for induction is a travesty. Based purely on talent alone, they surpass a good bit of the crap that already has a spot.

No, you didn't single anybody out ... you included a large group of people — many whom are members here — in your hate spew.

Can anyone say, "narrow minded?"

I have a lot of friends whose CD cases and Ipods I've never rifled through to make sure they don't listen to any music that I don't personally prefer. People's musical preferences don't really sway my opinion of them as a person, but hey, feel free to spread some more prejudice ...

Oh wait, you already did.

If you're going to call for apologies, take a minute to reread your own posts first.

On topic, I couldn't care less about these nominations ... as Future Bobby said, it's a big ass kissing convention.

It's the same in sports, there is always a long list of deserving people who haven't been inducted that should be, but I guess the bottom line is, who should f@#king care besides the nominees?

My Cheerios were still in the cupboard waiting for me the morning after these inductees were announced. My car started that morning as I prepared to leave for work and when I had lunch at McDonalds later that day, I asked for bacon on my Quarter Pounder with Cheese and ... they put bacon on it.

Mmmm ... bacon.
