r:>)"Parkinson's disease occurs when a group of cells in an area of the brain called the substantia nigra begin to malfunction and die. These cells in the substantia nigra produce a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, or chemical messenger, that sends information to the parts of the brain that control movement and coordination. When a person has Parkinson's disease, their dopamine-producing cells begin to die and the amount of dopamine produced in the brain decreases. Messages from the brain telling the body how and when to move are therefore delivered more slowly, leaving a person incapable of initiating and controlling movements in a normal way.
Taking medications for Parkinson's disease is straightforward for most people during the first several years of treatment. The effect of each dose usually lasts well into the period after the next dose, and delaying a dose even by an hour does not disrupt the effective coverage of symptoms.
The situation is different for many people who have been taking Parkinson's medications for several years (usually five years or more). In these stages of the disease, effective relief from symptoms can depend on carefully following a regular schedule of medication doses. There are several ways for Parkinson's patients to achieve the greatest possible benefit from their medications. Since in the more advanced stages of Parkinson's disease the symptoms are often unpredictable and can fluctuate daily, it is important to take an active role in finding a routine that is tailor-made and makes the most of the medicine. A person should ask themselves how long it takes for a pill to work and how long its positive effects remain. Note if the pills should be taken with food, between meals or on an empty stomach and how it feels when medication starts to wear off. The answers to these questions can help explain how the pill works and possibly increase "on" time.

I'll withhold my thoughts on ole' Rush because Songsmith's descriptions are always the best when it comes to this Oxy-addict. I just don't understand why anyone, conservative or liberal, would listen to anything he has to say. I suppose his fan base is a bunch of people with cofirmation biases.

Limbaugh commented on a campaign spot for Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill, who is running against Republican Senator James M. Talent, where Fox, speaking about stem cell research, is moving and shaking. Limbaugh said on his broadcast Monday that Fox was "really shameless" and that he was "either off his medication or acting." Limbaugh also told his listeners and viewers that Fox was "exaggerating the effects of the disease... He's moving all around and shaking, and it's purely an act."
"This is the only time I've ever seen Michael J. Fox portray any of the symptoms of the disease he has," Limbaugh said. "He can barely control himself."
Then, the piece of $hit starts mocking Parkinson's patients, flailing his arms around and rocking back and forth in his chair.
Later in the same broadcast, the pill popping hypocrite said, "Now people are telling me they have seen Michael J. Fox in interviews and he does appear the same way in the interviews as he does in this commercial.
"All right then, I stand corrected … so I will bigly, hugely admit that I was wrong, and I will apologize to Michael J. Fox if I am wrong in characterizing his behavior on this commercial as an act."
This half-assed apology, of course, came with the patented Limbaugh smart ass tone.
My great grandfather had Parkinson's and I can tell you from experience, you have no control over your motion, especially, as cited above, after the first five years. Fox was diagnosed in 1991.
Is this thing on?!? In case you're confused, this thread was not an argument for or against stem cell research, nor was it a statement on whether stem cell research is being sufficiently funded in the U.S., it was just an attempt to point out the obvious, as Hawk noted, that Oxy-boy is a f@#khead. But please, feel free to ignore the subject matter and twist things to your liking in an attempt to make this some kind of left vs. right argument ... as usual.

That's the problem with most pundits: They prattle on about shit they have no idea about. I didn't realize that Limbaugh had a medical degree and was an expert on Parkinson's Diease. Then again, you have Dr. Laura giving mental health advice, and she's not even a fucking pyschologist. Why is she allowed to continue her show? Has she bought off the APA or something? I guess that I'll start my own talk show and give legal advice. Who cares that I don't even have a law or criminal justice degree, have never served in the judicial system, nor have helped pass any new laws. I need ratings, damn it!
I still don't understand why people even tune into and listen to pundits. They're not going to offer any new and unbiased information. Limbaugh and Coulter are just two dogs frothing at the mouth who hate anything remotely progressive. Michael Moore is trying to convince everybody that everything's a conspiracy. I like to hear different view points. If I want my own biases to be confirmed, then I'll have a conversation with myself.

If only Rush and Ann Coulter were really true conservatives, I would be a much more appreciative of their viewpoints.
They are cheerleaders for the Republican party too much of the time, and should be much more critical when Republicans do not follow conservative principles.
The most free we can be is when the least amount government is part of our lives. That is a libertarian ideal (and most conservatives should follow this also).
There is hundreds of million of dollars in research in the private sector going on right now on stem cell research. The federal govt. is also spending hundreds of millions of our money on this also. Would M. J. Fox be whining about more of our tax dollars if he did not have this affliction?? I think not. I think he is pretty selfish. If he really cared about this disease he would have been out there begging for our tax dollars before he had the disease.
Democrats answers to this and everything else is more spending (and therefore more taxes), more programs, and more government. I could not disagree more.
BTW, stem cell research, although promising, has not cured a single disease.

I hear it's going really rough over at the GOP. Somebody noticed they've controlled Congress since 1994. Hey, Big Bad Clinton rendered them completely impotent, we all know that. I wouldn't have gotten anything done either. Also, Dubya's been holding them back since early 2001. That veto pen of is nearly worn to a stub from all the roadblocks he's thrown in front of the GOP Congress. It's tough being a congressman now, y'all, it's gotten to the point that you can't even bufu teenage boys at the Capitol, and ignorant pricks keep asking what we're getting for our $300 billion in Iraq. They keep asking what has this Congress accomplished. C'mon, dude, no-bid defense contracts,Terri Schiavo, suspension of mea culpa, the Abramoff scandal, warrantless phone taps, an unfunded Mexi-fence, an unfound bin-Laden, 20 billion in breaks for Big Oil (that ain't chump change, ya know), an attempt to turn Social Security over to the banking industry, trade legislation that sent millions of jobs overseas (with tax breaks), and generally underfunding their little bit of effort via tax-cutting so that YOUR kids have to pay (long after they've retired to cushy consulting jobs), goll-lee Sargent, that's a lot of freakin' work!undercoverjoe wrote: Democrats answers to this and everything else is more spending (and therefore more taxes), more programs, and more government. Now, like the good partyline Republicans they are, they won't show a political ad with a picture of themselves with GWB, because that suggests that they align with a president with nearly terminal approval ratings, and that loses elections. Man, that's fidelity, right there.
The word, "incumbent," is currently a slang word meaning, "about to be thrown out on his fat, lazy ass." This is what I love about the American system of politics. Some of you may term me as unpatriotic because of my independent leanings, but I can honestly say that, while the idiots in charge are screwing up, we have a way to make things right, and I'm very proud of that. I feel more patriotic now than I did after 9/11, because this time, someone will actually get theirs.
Rush appears to be eating crow for being on the likely losing team. He's become a bit resigned, as resigned as he can be anyway, and desperation makes for ugly radio. He knew he effed up, but he's Rush, and he can't just admit it... hell, he's America's Moral Compass. He'd have come off like a hero if he simply understatedly said that it's wrong for Michael J. Fox to exploit his illness for Dem political gain, but he HAD to show how "depraved and sick" the left was in the bargain, and wound up stepping in his own sizeable turd. They're all screwing up now. Hannity... well, watch Hannity. I've watched nearly every night this week, it's the funniest show on television. His opponents have been schooled in the Rovian tactic of using one supposed strengths against them, and when he starts one of his patented strings of yes/no questions, he gets told to play another game. I laughed so hard the other night I almost needed stem-cell research myself.
Oh, and as for stem-cell research not curing a disease, have courthouse Ten Commandment plaques stopped a crime? Songsmith, I guess I am not getting my point about Republicans not being conservatives.
Bush is not a conservative. He is more liberal on spending than Clinton.
90% of Republicans in Congress are not conservatives. The 10% that have a little conservative left keep them from becoming flaming liberals.
That is why I have said for a long time my politics run most similar to the Liberal Party, meaning less government and more seft reliance and self determination. Self reliance and determination would be much easier is we were all able to keep about 95% if what we earn. I would rather spend my money than the government spending my money.
If one cares so much about curing diseases through stem cell research, invest in companies doing this research and think how good you will feel if it happens (and how rich you will be when that company returns much money on your investment.) That is the libertarian. capitalist way.

Yeah, I know... that was sarcasm. Do I need a disclaimer in my posts, too?
I was hoping you'd chime in, Wolf. It always turns into a good conversation.
Joe, again we find common ground. The Bush admin is pretty liberal when it comes to promising money to people and groups of them. I'm actually quite fiscally conservative, except for the whole corporate handout thing. Actually, that's a question: Are corporate bail-outs and tax breaks considered liberal or conservative? It would seem to me they'd be liberal... they're sort of welfare for business... but I'm sincerely not sure how it's viewed. My anti-big-business stance is well-documented here, so you KNOW I'd be against it, but I'm not certain how it's seen. On one hand it's a handout, which has a distinctly liberal bent... on the other, it benefits big business, which is a conservative plus. Jeez, I hate being stupid.
As per the looming election, I see the best argument the Republicans can muster for reelection is that with a Dem victory, Nancy Pelosi would be Speaker. Granted, I don't want that, hell even moderate Dems don't want that, but it wouldn't topple America, I don't think. And she'd stand almost no chance of ever becoming president, I recall no instance where the President and VP were struck dead, so that's pretty weak. I think as Speaker, she'd have her hippy wings clipped by the moderate Dems and the right. She'd be a paper dragon, which is how it should be.
This next week, I'll be glued to my radio, TV, and laptop (okay I'm glued to that anyway) watching the drama unfold. I'm still hoping to watch Sean Spinnity stroke out live on the air. Not fatal, mind you, he'll just get all glassy-eyed and be unable to spew bile from one side of his mouth. Speaking of him, he's got an interview with GWB this week... I listened to one right before the '04 election, and Spinnity's voice was so relaxed and soothing, it was pretty sexual. When he said, "Thank you, Mr. President," at the end, I needed a cigarette. This is a can't-miss.---->JMS

Wow, we are in mucho agreement here!
All corporate welfare is created in the form of a tax break of some sort or other. One way to end all of that is to eliminate the tax code as it now exists.
A flat tax or the Fair Tax http://www.fairtax.org/ is a way to end 99% of the bloated IRS and end corporate welfare. It would also end most of the power of lobbyists in Congress. Less power in the hands of lobbysists and Congress is more freedom for all of us. (Libertarian viewpoint)
I think you watch much more of Hannity than I do. The best radio guy is Neal Bootz, a libertarian, and the local radio station just cut him, damned.
Hannity, like Rush have become shills for the RNC.

My $.02 is that if you stick your neck out in the political arena, be prepared to have it chopped off--especially when espousing easily confirmed B.S. From what I've seen, neither Limbo nor Fox was holding any moral high ground in this pathetic sideshow, but Rush managed sink to a new low.
He and Santorum both have what I call "foot in mouth" disease.
