I found a guy to build this for me at $30 over the cost of the parts.

Sweet ass snare bro
I have a 6 1/2 x 14 Pearl Steve Ferrone snare
Nickel plated brass, 24k gold plated lugs, brass hoops. Put an Aquarian hi energy snare head on and stand the fuck back. Your snare looks like it is gonna do some serious sonic damage
I would have tried their reference series lugs. I like how they swivel into place as you tune the drum.

Pretty sweet. 30 bucks eh? I would imagine getting everything aligned from scratch would be tough. But I have never done it from scratch before so I'm an idiot anyway.

It will be shipped to me on Monday (Oct 2) .
Here is how it looks finished. Looks better than I thought it would with piccolo lugs.

Rob, are you still favoring your acrylic snare ?
Anyone else using acrylic ?

The pic lugs are nice. Will give better resonance I am sure.
I have never played acrylic - but it seems that since Ludwig re-released the Bonham kit, it is coming back. I like brass or coated brass for a 14 x 5 or 6 and maple for pic snares to give it warmth. Although, the oak snares have a really fat sound to them without the big ass snare shells we used in the 80's - you know those snares that should have been used for orchestral concert pits? Or those ugly split shell deals - talk about a sound control problem!
Too late now, and this is purely hypothetical, but I wonder what the difference in sound would be on your new baby with tube lugs? You get less contact with the drum, but then again, you also get two holes... I have always been a tube lug person (damn that sounds geeky) since I am also a Sonor player so that's where I am coming from.
Cheers!

Rob and Bill - you guys have convinced me. Moments ago, I ordered a Piglite. I am going to customize it a little, by putting a Trick Throw-off on it. Should be smokin'...Bill, you are gonna love that snare! I really don't wanna play any other snare right now. Playing in the best local club here, a lot of other bands come in to see you. I've gotten nothing but compliments on how my kit sounds and how the snare sounds.
Bill - We should take a road trip to catch one of Rob's gigs. That is, while the gas prices are still low. You can drive...

Thanks Rob, I know you have good taste in "sounds" and when you said how much you liked the Pig. Well.........that's what got me started. Thanks again.
Two Things :
1. I can't believe lonewolf hasn't chastised me yet. "Technical, Technical, Technical !
2. Put us up for a month, find us some gigs, and we can fly out about 20 Rock Pagers for a "Drum Night" !
