I think the next rockpage benefit has to be on a saturday. We can't leave out the ones who missed the first one because of a shitty work schedule. Also, nothing against Big John, but could we possibly get a new location because we were packed like sardines in there. I think Bobby mentioned an outdoor jam. It could be all damn day and bands could have 45 minute sets or something like that. I think it would be a good idea to be early june or so...not too hot, not cold. All we need is to get a good location, bands, a barbecue, and promote the hell out of it. Maybe this thing could be even more special than it already has been? So, throw in your ideas, the more ideas, the better!

A Saturday indeed, Rob. Missing the benefit sucked. you have a great idea about the all day affair. we wouldn't have to wait until June though. Just get a fire company hall or something. Take on a second benefit/ charity to raise money for, that way you can get the location for free. Fire hall's have kitchens that could be used to make hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. I know the Lewistown Toys for Tots always works out well with that setup. Hell, we should all come together to do benefit work 1 time per month or per 2 months anyway. It will keep everyone's faces fresh in the minds for those bands who may come participate from outside the Toona' area!! Just an idea.

For an outside jam might be nice to try to get Lakemont park stage. I think JP knows who to talk to about that. Not sure what their policy's are anymore for concerts.

I was thinking some type of event where everybody from girlfriends(or wives) to kids could be involved.
Just think how some of the above people would feel buy being involved in something we all love instead of sitting on the sidelines.
With silly games like the blown woofer toss, fastest loading a van (with some type of junk no actual gear) a road case race they call it a roadcase don't they, cable wrapping who knows, fastest tuning.
Possibly even complete with some kind of silly award to take into the next year ( the stanley cup of rockpage).
Along with a jam of coarse,

Saturday would be cool, I was really hoping to go thursday but the weather made for a really sucky week for me.

I like some of the ideas but does everyone want a publicized event or a get together for the members? A no pressure get together would be really cool for everyone to enjoy themselves but an organized show would bring the cash. or maybe have the get together and use it as discussion / idea time for a well organized event.

I think that is a really cool idea too....I would be there to support it no matter where or when, I think the whole benifit idea is cool, I may not be a musician but I certainly would be there in support or help in anyway, but the outdoor thing where kids can go is a great idea...My 15 year old son plays(well learning, lol) guitar also wanting in a band :) and he'd love it and participate as well Im sure...If its out side or something hed be able to attend...

An organized show with set times and bands would be the best way. We could set aside some "jam" time because that was an essential part of last thursday. All the bands could be required to promote it for a good cause. Who knows, there are bands from all over that are on the rockpage. We could start another "fest." It could even run from friday night to sunday morning. Have bands bring tents and campers to camp out. People could set up thier own merchandise booths to make some cash. Maybe I'm looking for too much, but I'm just thinking about the big picture, I understand the amount of resources involved. I bet it would garner some great publicity for everyone, also it would show that musicians coming together can be a very impressive force. Who knows how far to take this thing!!

Rob, I'm totally digging on the "Woodstock" idea. If a band were booked at a bar on Saturday and couldn't play, they could instead play in the afternoon or on Friday night. I'm unaware of the legalities that would go into putting on a show like this. (if you would be required to get a permit/hire security/ect) If we could get someone to donate their private land for the event, that would be great. Then the cost would be hiring a soundman (unless somone volunteers ;) ), renting toliet facilities, (possibily) hiring security, and then possibly clean-up. I'm not really sure what to do about a stage. If worse comes to worse, you could always be ghetto about it, and set up on a flatbed truck. I have a friend who attends multi-day "Jam" shows very often. If I get a chance to speak with him, I'll ask what goes into one.

.....or we could just say "screw it" and do things like Kyuss did by going out and staging concerts in the desert. ;)

Would anyone be interested in having another one within the next two months before the big one everyone's talking about that could happen sometime in the summer?

Hey i feel really bad for missing out on all of the fun but duty called etc etc. But if you guys are looking for a place with more room i have an idea. I could talk to Aldo (ALDO's) about doing it at his joint, i'm sure he'd be down with it. There is plenty of room on the stage down there for the bands and lots of room for the crowds. Plus the system sounds great now and the light show is 100 times better now. Let me know what everyone thinks and if you guys want me to talk to him.

I think events like this have chemistry and the small tightness of my club might have added to the good time everyone had. I hate to sound like a pessimist but people always try these big out door show and they rarely go off as planned. I would love to have another show here, the bar had a great night, we raised a little money and everyone had a great great time. If it ain't broke don't fix it !!!!

I think for a jam session like we had last Thursday, I agree with Big John that the smaller setting of a place like Peter C's provides a closer, one-on-one atmosphere between the performers and the crowd, and that played a big role in the success of the first jam benefit. I could see doing one on a Saturday to accommodate musicians who might not be available on a weeknight, but it would exclude a lot of musicians whose bands play elsewhere that night. A date would need to be set well in advance so that bands interested in participating would know not to book elsewhere that night. Thursdays obviously work good because most bands have off and are available to come take part.

I think the City Limits and Aldo's options would be better for a band showcase benefit (with straight full-band sets rather than a jam night), especially if we wanted to organize a full-scale benefit for John McKnight (look at how successful the Toys for Tots benefit was in November; if organized and promoted properly, a bigger-scale benefit with full bands should be successful as well).

One of the big ideas we have been bouncing around for an outdoor event is along a different theme: "The Musician Olympics." The premise is an afternoon of fun music-related competition, with events such as "Who can throw a burned-out bass bin the farthest?" "Who can set up a drum kit the fastest?" "Who can tune a guitar the fastest?" "Whose road crew can tear down and load the van the fastest?" The event then could end with a jam session. Logistics for such an event would need to be worked out, and a location would need to be determined (one person suggested a state park, but that probably wouldn't work because alcohol is prohibited at places like Prince Gallitzin and Canoe Creek).

Another possible event I'd like to bounce off everyone - My friend, Shel Hoachlander at Black Thorn Entertainment, stages "Bowling with Bands" in the Harrisburg area, where bands and fans get together for an afternoon of bowling at a local alley. This is a chance for bands and fans to mingle and have some fun. Would musicians in this area be interested in doing a "Bowling for Bands" up this way? (I'm thinking the 4D's as a possible location.)

I don't mind peter c's I just can't deal with the everyone cluttered around and my asthma sucks ass because of all the smoke in such a tight area. I hate trying to play and think about breathing at the same time. So, I wouldn't mind at outdoor setting or a bigger setting because so many more people will probably attend the next one. That's all!

This may sound like a solicitation, but, the Hollidaysburg YMCA did a show last year with local/regional acts called Y-Woodstock, and it was very successful, even though most acts weren't booked until a month beforehand. They would absolutely LOVE to host a jam like this, it's exactly what they want. They pay for Brian McConnell to do PA and lights, and it's at a doctor's farm near H-burg, so it's a really nice place to have a gig.No musicians would have to invest in it. I could put everybody in touch if you want.------->JMS

I think with so many different opinions on how we'd like to do the next one, why don't we take it step at a time and get everyone to place their vote? Give everyone a week to be able to cast a vote on it. ;) Maybe the first question should be where we're going to do it, followed by when, etc.... Just an idea.
