This Spud's For You

Post by Jim Price »

Some photos from this year's Ebensburg Potatofest...

Felix & the Hurricanes were immortalized in spuds by a loyal Johnstown Hurricaniac.

This year's Potatofest saw a few dignitaries on hand. As Felix & the Hurricanes performed, Governor Ed Rendell passed by to give a listen...

Image

Also in attendance at this year's Potatofest was Johnstown's own "Unicorn Man."

Image

"Unicorn Man" also showed up to dance during the performance of the final band of the day up the street, Echoes.

It is unknown whether Governor Rendell met "Unicorn Man" during his visit to Potatofest. (That would have been classic!)

Anyway, this year's was a very interesting edition of Ebensburg Potatofest.

"Unicorn Man" is something else. That guy goes to every festival in the county I swear and dances like a maniac. A sight to see.

Everytime I've seen "unicorn man" he has had 1 pant leg rolled up almost to his knee. I guess it was a little too chilly for that today.

The spuds likeness were great "how else to be honored"...lolol

The Governor....I don't think he would know good music if it hit him in the face...i could be wrong, but thats my opinion...

As for Unicorn Man I heard that he was a Doctor that jump the fence and never came back....
He is always down at the Johnstown events, I seen him down at Ace's during the Ethnic Festival a few years ago like Tony said, one pant leg rolled up dancing like a maniac
I asked him if I could take a picture of him. My camera has a red eye reduction red flash before the regular flash goes off.
After I took the picture, he asked me if I electrocuted him  lolol

But I have to give him credit he loves music and loves to dance
His own right "a true classic" WOW
As far as whats in his pockets ?? What else Potato's hehehe

This is his story....

Apprently, this guys used to be a genius. He wasn't the average citizen, but yet I am not sure exactly what his real status was. Reguardless, the man was a real genius and then just snapped. He went on the twig and has never really recovered from it. I have heard that he has been thrown out of a couple of churches in the area for becoming violent, and has alot of other gross habits. He was at our Cresson Bicentenial gig earlier this year and was making himself known. Thankfully he didn't start any trouble, but it was interesting to watch. A girlfriend of Lisa's told her that her mother used to know him when he was younger. I may be mistaken on this one, but I think he lives somewhere near Wilmore. If not, then he used to at one time.

That's about all I have.

I met Rendell right after he was elected... I didn't recognize him and kinda made it clear I was too busy setting up A/V to talk to him. Then someone told me who he was and I was kinda embarrassed.
He'll be reelected handily, I think.

The Unicorn Man would make a great story song. Anybody here write songs?--------->JMS

"Unicorn Man," as he must be know by those over the mountain, is known as "Einstein" here in Johnstown. I believe he is from Johnstown and does frequent many retaurants and several Sheetz in the area. He also is know to wear his ponytail in a Campbell's soupcan on his head.

The urban legend on this guy is that he is some sort of genious and is only acting crazy to collect disability. That's the lowdown on the guy.

Also, coincidently, the now infamous Johnstown "bag lady" is also said to be a genious and a former professor and doctor. That's weird, but then again, this is Johnstown.

Nice potato likenesses of the Hurricanes.

He's actually from the St. Micheal area as I heard it at a recent festival down there.
They seem to lay claim to him. They also seemed to know quite a bit about him but I recall none of it.

I actually know a few people that had Unicorn Man as a professor. I dont think its an urban legend. As for bag lady, i dont know, that could be a hoax.

Maybe he's still brilliant. Imagine your own world where you can just poke holes in everyone's idea of normal, everyone's little self-absorbed trip. Sure it's disruptive, but at least on paper, it's freakin' beautiful.
I wonder if he has a manifesto. All brilliant whacko's have a manifesto, 4500 pages, written mirror-image, or in Klingon. They usually keep it in their shack.
We should add to his mythical stature... make up something about him that might or might not be true:
I heard he invented the Internet.
They say he has a freakishly large penis.
My aunt said he's a CIA agent.

He once survived on Lilly mountain for 8 weeks with only a Neil Diamond record and some fishing line.
