I just got off of the phone with John McKnight, and he sends his sincerest thanks to everyone who attended and played for the benefit. We ended up being able to send him $300 to put a little dent in his medical fund.

John's still in pretty bad shape, as he needs yet another operation and can't play for at least 6 months, so on top of the huge medical bills, he won't have any income. And the cost of living in Altanta isn't cheap.

As soon as he's able to travel after the next operation, he plans on coming home for a while. Despite everything, John had to tell me a good joke (as always), and was in good spirits. It was great talking to him.
... and then the wheel fell off.

The first recap of Thursday's benefit is now up in "JP's Corner." If I messed up anybody's name, email me and I'll make the needed corrections.

There might be a second round of photos posted later, during the "Weekend Recap" of this weekend in a few weeks...

Hey, if we are going to do this thing again...and we do the 'names-in-a-hat' thing, perhaps we could come up with a list of songs with chords so that everyone will know what we might do. Draw the names with the song. Forgive me if this has already been suggested. Personally, I would like to jam out on....

Red House - Hendrix
Hey Joe - Hendrix
Sunshine of your love - Cream
Paradigm Shift - Liquid Tension (hahah - I kid, I kid)

Anyways, you get the point. I would volunteer to do up all the chords, if everyone would post what songs they'd like to jam on.
My favorite band can do better unison solos then your favorite band.

I've never had so much fun at any jam I've ever been to. As other posted, attitudes and @ssholes weren't present. To me, that night felt like a brotherhood of musicians having a great time. I too felt that this area has soo much talent. Every band and musician I heard inspired me and left me leaving with a smile on my face that'll last the rest of my life. I enjoyed chatting with everyone and I tried making it a point to at least say hi to everyone. If I missed anyone, we'll have to take care of that during the next one. It was great jamming with musicians that I've looked up to for years. I can say nothing but praise for everyone that stood on the stage and performed. I too hope that everyone had the opportunity to jam. The only regret of the night was it had to end. :(

The guys from "I AM NOT WORTHY!!!" Hair Force One were introduced to "band guy" and had a pounding set. Hope you guys didn't mind the phantom backups. ;) Fat Vinnie can sure play the blues and it was an honor jamming duel solos with you. Having 4 singers, including Troy (A respected singer I've heard so much good about over the years), on the stage sharing a mic was incredible. I remember us looking at eachother wondering who was going to sing the next verse/line of a song. I tip my hat to you all brothers. Two drummers on stage at one time? KICK ASS!!! The drum jam that happened whenever the power went out was phenomenal. (Even that dude that came up to join in with his shakers.) Even though the rest of the guys from Acid Reflux didn't get the chance to jam, I believe one of the guys used my guitar for a song. (Heh...Don't worry about the broken string.) I do wish I would've been able to hear them play and one of our nights off from playing, Kenny and I are going to come out and see you guys in action. Was Dream Theatre in the house or what?!?!? I've never heard anyone, besides the actual band, play that tune. Now, that was a treat. I don't remember the name of the band with a chick drummer, but they rocked!! A very tight band. ;) This was the first time I saw The Grimm in years and they absolutely smoked!! I also tip my hat to you guys and your Metallica medley ruled!! I remember seeing you guys years ago playing with a band called Hit And Run. :P It was also a treat to see Dom on the skins. I believe it was songsmith playing the harp on Long Train Runnin and I'll never be able to hold a candle on the licks he was playing. Hell, I don't even know the first thing to playing a harmonica, nor want to even attempt after hearing that. heh Excellent job bro!!!! For the other guys that jammed, awsome job!! I honestly don't remember all your names.

On another note, please don't let onetooloud try and flash you with his coat cause you'll end up with booze all over you, yet his bottle lost very little alcohol. It was a pleasure being able to put a face to all the members of this forum and actually getting to talk one on one with everyone. If PXP still has that deal on websites, anyone looking to have one built should see him. He does great work from all the pages I've seen.

Again, we all need to take a moment and thank the most supportive person of the local music scene, JP!! The entire night was captured on video, as well as tons pictures and the million pens he went through jotting down his observations of the night. I cannot thank you enough Jim. I'd have to consider him the cornerstone of this music scene. Support and keep local music alive!!!

I'd like to thank Ron, JP, Big John, and Bobby (You rule bro!!) from the Hurricanes for making this night happen. This is a night that I'll never forget and would like it to happen again sometime very soon. The barstaff was great as well. They worked their @sses off while we had a great time. The overall sound was great (very clear and distinct) and Ron can come run sound for us anytime. I didn't catch the other soundman's name, but would like to thank him as well for making everything go so smoothly. For the guys that chipped in their gear, thanx for letting us use it. ;)

I think if we do another Jam night, a setlist of common songs should be thought of before hand. I also like the idea of putting names in a hat and picking them out to do a tune. Does anyone have any other ideas? ---- This looks like the start for another thread. 8)

Lastly, I've never heard of the proceeds of a benefit going towards another benefit. That to me just shows the great side of humanity and how people help eachother out in a time of need. I hope everything that was brought in helped. Maybe next time we should charge 5 bucks instead of 3? Just a thought.

Thank you everyone, for an experience I'll never forget the rest of my life. ;)

Ron wrote: My apologies also go out to anyone who showed up and didn't get to play, especially the guys from Acid Reflux.
No need to apologize. We showed up, we played, and it was good! One of the things that makes an Acid Reflux show exciting is to have musicians sit in with us. To sit in with other musicians, especially on a night like Thursday, is a key part in what makes our lives in music most fulfilling.

Moondoggy, great job on the Dream Theater, and six string basses are bada$$. If you're looking to improve your improv skills, a six string, with its extended range, can expand your possiblities. For listening, I recommend John Patitucci (not to be confused with Petrucci, which is also good) and Jaco.

In retrospect, Thursday was awesome, and I'm looking forward to the next one. Support Live Music!
