Information about the Warehouse in Bedford...please read.

Post by Dragan Kalasa »

The Warehouse in Bedford has released their Event Coordinator. This person has taken all the band's contact numbers and is calling bands to tell them that The Warehouse has canceled them.

Just my speculation on this, this person seems to be trying to cut the venue's throat. So anyone who has received a call (possibly from a woman named Donna) saying that your band has been canceled please call the Warehouse and get confirmation on it. Bands who do have ties with The Warehouse, and/or have some upcoming dates at The Warehouse, are urged to call them to confirm and regive them your contact information.

They are not going through new management. They are looking for a new Event Coordinator, and have an interim coordinator until they do get a new one.

Please call The Warehouse at (814)623-7417. The owner's name is Jay. Normally someone is there who can give you information if the owner is not at the bar.

Thanks for your time,

yeah, I got a series of messages from her, none of which I replied to, they went something like this:

mitch, they aren't going to give you guys free beer anymore, you should cancel

they are closing the doors and cancelling all bands

I'm working on rebooking your show at (something or other I forget)

and probably a couple more, I forget.

after I got a few of them, I figured something was up so I called the warehouse to confirm the show for tomorrow (shameless plug) and I was told everything was still on.

I guess she's trying to set up a booking agency or something. She always seemed nice, but I don't do buisiness that way, and I refuse to deal with someone that does. Plus she could barely keep the books straight at the warehouse, I don't know if I can trust her to book for multiple places.
Stand back, I like to rock out.

I was never really good on those parts of IQ tests where you have to distinquish a pattern, but I do notice an obvious trend when I see one. Is it just me, or does it seem like about every six months, The Warehouse has management changes and every band on the books is wondering if their gigs are still there?

...Personally, I won't deal with a club that can't keep its books straight.

Another thing that place is doing to slit its own throat is by letting any band play there. I talked to a group of patrons who stated that they usually don’t bother with the warehouse because all of the shit bands that play there. I didn’t bother to ask what bands they were talking about but basically the people were bitching about no quality control.

No offense to anyone, but if people are seriously considering playing The Warehouse, they should honestly have their heads examined. This is probably the third thread I can think of about this shithole. We used to play there, but the operative phrase was USED TO. Reason is because we dealt with at least two different bookers in less than a year's time. And niether of them knew how much we were to receive at the end of the night. If a club can't even remember how much they agreed to pay your band, then what the hell else are they forgetting about? Maybe sometime, LCB will come in and the owners will say they forgot to renew their liquor liscence. There is probably a good reason as to why that patron in someone else's post was complaining about the fact that there isn't a larger variety of bands playing The Warehouse. Because the bands with experience in the way this club operates know that it's a ship that has long sunk and have gotten out. Pretty soon, the other bands unfortunate enough to still be playing there will be swallowed up too. And that is sad and uneeded. This place needs to shut down and be sold to someone who knows how to run it well. Otherwise, threads like this will keep popping up and bands are going to be continually shit upon.

I wouldn't touch this place with a 500 foot pole ... you will never see bad daZe on this joint’s marquee, I can promise you that ... very unprofessionally run establishment ... has been since it opened.

Someone from this joint actually called us to play there and was instantly told exactly where to go thus assuring my band that coveted non-spot on their books.

This place is a joke and so is their management AND staff. I've heard of bands being ripped off at the door, cancelled at the last minute, last minute schedule changes, etc... Needless to say we've never played there and never will.

Thanks for your thoughts on this place guys, and i know the warehouse has had problems. There is one thing you dont understand though....we wanna fuckin play shows. We did an "on the fly" gig @ the warehouse months back. it was a very strange situation. That woman Donna is quite a character!!! She spent some time in the mens bathroom while we were there that night. After we played, i spoke to her about another possible gig.
She was 'playin in the snow without a sled' in the bathroom while she was working if ya know what i mean!!! So was the bouncer and some customer! They all happend to be there when i was talking to her about a gig. She was so whacked out of her mind that she BOOKED us a night and eventually did a radio ad. WE HAD NO CLUE. I told her id CALL her to set up a date to play. she just randomly picked a day i guess!!
She did the radio ad, AFTER we told her NO WE ARENT DOING IT. andrew got the worst of it...he had to speak to her.
Anyway, even with that in mind...I STILL want to play there! Even more so that crackface is gone. oops.
Seriously though, it gives more people a chance to see us and hear our music. Thats whats important. We dont care about making tons of $$$$. Hopefully that'll come after people see us and want to see us again and again. Right now, its "paying our dues" i guess.

BTW, i will ASSURE the warehouse to be fair on saturday night when us and fedup play there. ill be watching the door. i will let them know that their rep sucks and they cant fuck us. when in doubt....crap on a pool table.

I really don't think the amount of money being paid is the problem here. It's the book. I appreciate your desire to play there — to get in front of people in a particular area and spread the word should always be the top priority, especially when you're trying to break into a new market — but if you're booked and find out at the last minute that you're not booked, you're not playing in front of anybody and it's hard to rebook a date someplace else with little to no notice.

This seems to be the recurring problem at the Warehouse.

EDIT: Crapping on the pool table does make a pretty effective statement.

They did it to us as well. Not only once but twice. And went back on what we agreed on. It's not about the money for us as well, but she called me back after she cancelled us and then wanted to know If they kept us on the books If we would come up and play for just the door. I told her no thank you that this was the second time this has happened and we just weren't interested anymore. It really sucks that they can't seem to find someone that knows what there doing. Cause I have heard some decent things about this place. None that ever included the management that is. What sucks is this place from what I have been told gets a pretty decent crowd at times. And some bands out there have a deficult time getting themselves into venues and this place always seems to let anyone play there. But that sometimes can be a good thing or a bad thing. This place to me just reaks of unprofessionalism.

I really want the warehouse to be a good bar. Its a nice room. The stage is nice. The bar itself is pretty nice. Its the only thing going on in bedford county. It has the potential to be a great place to play. It just seems like by the time they finally get their act together, no good bands are going to want to play there anymore.
Hopefully the owner is there tonight, so we can discuss some things. I'll be sure to let everyone know what their plan is, but I have my doubts that echo chamber will ever play there again.
Its a shame that they keep letting that bar go to waste.

I agree. That place has such potential to be a really cool bar. It has one of the coolest stages around, IMO. The room's the perfect size, and it seems to be very receptive to harder music, which is very cool.

Unfortunatley, they just don't have their shit together, and if that's the case, then no thanks. It's not a band's responsiblity to help a club keep its book in order. To be honest, I don't understand how owners who run their establishments like this stay in business for this long. Clubs expect for a band to show up when their names's been placed in the black book, and I expect my name to be on the marquee when I show up at 8 p.m. on a Saturday night. Honest mistakes happen, and I don't believe that you should severe a business relationship over an isolated incident. Unfortunatley, The Warehouse has proven time and time again it is a cluster fuck of management.

Is it possible that someone from The Warehouse could read this post, and thus blackball me from ever playing there? Yes, but I really don't care, because I have no interest in playing there until it's bought by managers who know what they're doing.

This place is a motel. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bar is just a "side" type of thing so that's why I think they don't care too much.

That's the only logical explanation I can come up with.

They have ties because I think if a band needs to spend the night, The Warehouse usually gives them a deal. I'm not 100% sure, but I do believe they are two seperate entities.

Oh and BTW...we weren't canceled, but at the same time we apparently weren't on the card. When we talked, they said they were hoping there was another band besides FedUP. Not saying FedUp couldn't do it, because I don't know how much material they have, but they were under the impression that there was another band, but they didn't have one written down. So basically, I said we were that other band, and they were happy, but there was no contact info or anything on us. And like I stated before, I suspect that the ex-employee probably removed our info.

One place I'd like to see pick up if the Warehouse fizzles out, is Granatelli's in Everett.

They have an awesome setup in the old theater half of it, but it seems it rarely gets used.

Not sure what the deal is there, like, whether the management isn't willing to pay out much, or what.
