It's week two, and in reality, the Steelers weren't going undefeated this year. They are pissed now and it will help them next week for a bigger game. Cincinatti.
Lets go Steelers!!!!

I think they'll beat them. Ben was rusty and I attribute most of the lack of offense to that. They couldn't pass and eveyone knew it, so there was not going to be any running room until they could. It's not Ben's fault but, he had that same shitty look that he had last year in Indy the first time, again after a lay off.AtoMikEnRtiA wrote:its gonna take a monumental effort on their behalf to smoke cincinnatti.. i dont think they have it in themPunkinhead wrote:No, Bettis wouldn't have done much. My pick this week: Pittsburgh 28 - Cincinatti 17
Although I am worried about him saying that coming back this year was like being a rookie all over again. I hope he doesn't mean he can't see the field like a veteran. I'm sure it meant something about a new lease on life but, it's a bothersome comment, for sure.

The Steelers are missing a Bettis-like back. It's a key ingredient to this offense for sure. Bettis wore defenses down because, even when he'd rattle off 7-8 runs for only 2-3 yards apiece, that big body was doing damage to the defensive line and anyone else coming in to stop him. Over time, that translates into a tired opponent which allows Fast Willie to slide on through. It also opens up the passing game.Dragan Kalasa wrote:Are the Steelers missing Bettis? Does anyone think that it would've been a different game as far as rushing is concerned if the Bus was in the line-up? I personally think he would've been stopped as well, but I'm just curious to see what everyone else thinks about it.
Sending Willie between the tackles all night with no change up had me scratching my head throughout the game (where was Davenport? Was he even on the sidelines?) but then again, I’m not an NFL coach with a Super Bowl ring. I personally don’t think Haynes is a “bruising back” (he’s a great third down guy with hands for screens and runs a great draw) but Pittsburgh needs someone to thump people with his knees the way Jerome did. Right now, the offense is one dimensional.
Another reality check: Only one NFL team in the history of the league won all its games. I expect the Steelers to drop early season games and was not at all upset that they didn’t win this game. When you lose playmakers like Randel El and Bettis, sometimes it takes time to work new guys into the system and get a groove going, especially when you face a tough opponent like Jax.
Plus, people seem to forget that the Jags were in the AFC Central when they entered the league and this was a rivalry nearly as heated as Steelers/Browns. There’s still bad blood there on the field, I’m sure. It’s always gonna be a hard fought game between these two teams.
Again, props to the Jags for a good defensive showing. At 1-1, the Steelers season is far from over.

PS: Cincy ... They don't scare me. No matter what, they will always be the Bungles and they will always play in the shadow of the Steelers. That doesn't mean they won't win from time-to-time (the laws of averages dictate that, when you play a team twice a year you will win some) but when it’s all on the line, Pittsburgh will dispose of them, just like last season.
And, to remind everyone before the "what if" argument is posed, Carson Palmer only took two snaps in last year’s playoff game before his injury and contributed to no scoring whatsoever. Then, Cincy posted a 10-0 lead with Kitna behind center and were still sent home for the season by the Super Bowl Champs.
Once a Bungle, always a Bungle.
And Chad Johnson is a loudmouthed chump, just like TO, only he's not as talented.

The problem with the running game is that they called the entire game just like Mike Mularkey used to call them... So they put it all on a guy who essentially was in week 3 pre-season after missing the last two weeks of camp kind of condition, and was also sick and injured. So rather than challenge the middle of the Jags line, what did they do...ran away from it like pussies. Willie can run up the middle, just have to force the issue and be the best offensive line in football - which they were not even close to being with either the run game or the pass protection.
The offense is still in pre-season because condition both of the leaders in that unit were out for so long. batch is clearly ready to go, but you can't abandon you strarter becuse of poor conditioning - that's a coaching problem to fix. Look for them to come out against the Chargers in week 5, but nothing will be in sync this coming Sunday where they will have to score at least 28 to win. They will be 2-2 after week 5 because they have to be to stay in the hunt but it will be a monumental challenge - even if the Bengals and Chargers have yet to be truly challenged.

As far as Roethlisberger goes.. hey folks, he wanted to play.. he had been lobbying to Cowher for 2 weeks to play.. should he have played? No probably not.. should Cowher have benched him with a temperature of 104, when he knows your brain boils at 108.. yeah he probably should have.. but he didn't. I dont think you can say Roethlisberger being un-well is why they lost the game, when their running game didnt do shit either. What.. 26 yards? That loss wasnt Roethlisberger's fault, it wasn't Parker's fault.. they just ran into a very very good defense..

I'm getting so sick and tired of hearing his whining about the Steelers. I hope he gets his damn head taken off by an unblocked Joey Porter.RobTheDrummer wrote:I think our D will hold it's own against the Bengals. Look for Carson to want to put some revenge on us, as well as their D.

Agreed. This is football. Sometimes, you get rolled up on. Just ask Joe Thiesman. Deal with it.Punkinhead wrote:I'm getting so sick and tired of hearing his whining about the Steelers. The problem with our D and team like Cinci is what I always say... Look at the protection rather than the QB. If the QB is not rushed out of the pocket I always say "crap someone is open" because of the blitzing schemes. Forget Carson Palmer, this is all about the O-Line. If the backs pick up the blitzes, Carson will go well over 300 yards and at least two TD's on Sunday because he will stand firm in the pocket and have passing lanes. To win this game Pittsburgh needs to make him scramble.
And, yes, even in the playoff game it was about the O-Line. If you are a tackle you cannot let go of your block. Kimo got there because of a bad block.
With the Steelers is is all about the O-Line and the run game. Ben is best outside of the pocket as long as he can run somewhere. But the offense needs Hartings and Faneca to crush the interior of the Cinci D line and be as nasty and physical as they can be since the Bus is not there to help them out. That means 3 or 4 yards rushing on first down on the inside consistently.
So, make the QB scramble, Hartings and Faneca need to be nasty and win that interior line battle. That's how Pittsburgh will win in every contest this season.

Well, at least the frikkin' Pats lost ...
Ben's still out of sync. He's having trouble passing accurately out of the pocket, but when he rolls out, it's good ol' Ben.
We need a big back to offset Willie's speed game (although we didn't need one yesterday — props to Fast Willie for a great outing).
Steeler D was tough again, as was the O line. Special teams killed us, in particular Ricardo "Pronounce it like it's spelled" Colclough. "The Great" Carson Palmer was running for his life but got his ass kissed after the game by every analyst in the country for his performance. Jesus, watch the tape. Most of the scoring they did was gifted by a bonehead play.
They've got to get #86 back in the gameplan. I heard he's good.
This is when we lose games, which is fine by me, as long as they get their collective shit together soon. Good teams win ... great teams win when they need to win.

Hmm...not too much to say that hasn't been already said. Although, I think the Steelers will be ok. Once Ben is in sync and shape, as well as some other players (Hines..where have you been? Dropping balls against Jax and 2 for 17 yesterday...), the team will be tough. I'm just hoping it's soon because they are essentially 3 games behind the Bengals now and 2 behind the Ravens.
The Steelers will fix the turnovers, and the stupid penalties, Cowher will make sure of it. Here is where having the dean of coaches in the NFL will pay off IMO.
