O.k does anyone else, like me, think that the reason for the gas price drop is because of the upcoming elections ?? I know some of you will say it's the season that is bringing them down. I have a hard time believing that.

I can see it now: "I helped in the lowering gas prices, so vote for me". I say it's bull - I am still voting independant, simpy because when the elections are over the prices will be right back up to $3,000.00 a gallon.

When the gas companies make like 14 billion in profits a quarter, then say the prices need to go up during the "travel" season, it makes me puke.

Our government isn't doing enough to make fuel more affordable.

For someone lowering my gas prices to matter, they'd have to lower them to like 99 cents a gallon. If that was the case, I'd vote for any of the axis powers during WWII.

To me, everyone knows this is a crock of shit but, the real crock is that we, the American people, can't get shit done about it. There are millions bitching but, no one seems to know/want to do anything but that. Personally, I think the way to beat this (aka not get raped in our assholes anymore) is to get everyone to do something. And if that fails, do something else, and not stop until it's done. We still have the power to change something.

Although, I am a hypocrite because after proposing and trying a few solutions, I have stopped caring.

But then again, I have stopped bitching too....

I had a date in State College today, and gas was $2.33 at certain stations (I gassed up before leaving town). I'm just enjoying it while it last. I'm pessimestic that it's going to stay that way. I'm with Rob on this one. When it's back to 99 cents, then I'll care about who helped do that.

We, as a country, just need to change our driving habits. In comparison to places like Europe, we're stell paying way less for fuel. Then again, Europe has a better mass transit infrastructure.

Maybe if the tree hugging liberals wouldn't always try to stop drilling for oil on our own lands, we might not be in this situation.

You know why I dont bitch about gas prices, and why i feel we as Americans shouldnt bitch about gas prices?

Because no matter how much bitching, and boycotting and threatening we do.. immediately after we stop complaining, we're right at that fucking gas pump.. putting that 2.99 gasoline in our automobiles. This shit where people say "dont get gas on september 11th" or "boycott exxon-mobile" or anything else that we as Americans say .. none of us hold true to that - we all fall back on our word. We bitch, and then we fill the tank.. it's that simple..

What would I like to see? Carbon based alternative.. put more money into research on using carbon based fuels.. Western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, have enough coal to easily fund this works.. sure it makes mining a big dangerous industry again.. but wouldn't you rather rely on coal.. than the Saudis, or the Carlyle Group?

Right, but one thing it seems like hardly anyone seems to notice is all of the gas-hogging SUVs on the road, I really think that is part of the problem, those (seems like the majority of whats on the road) size cars are hogging up all of the gas! Anyone who took a basic econ class knows that higher demand = higher prices. Buy gas efficient cars or only buy large SUVs if you are in a position (like with your business or you have loads of kids) that you need them. I see people driving these monstrosities around all alone, for some its a status symbol and that makes me sick.

Here are the current "AVERAGE" prices for gas by state. This takes into consideration an entire state including all the metro areas where it is usually higher. Pennsylvania gas taxes are a major reason we pay more than some other states. My brother lives in Virginia Beach and yesterday regular unleaded gas was $205.9 there and we are still 40 cents a gallon higher here.

I'd like to see more work on hydrogen fuelcell engines, methanol, and other alternatives. I've yet to see anything other than lip service being paid to them in speeches. We suffer from a hundred year symbiotic relationship between carmakers and Big Oil that has to be broken before anything at all will happen. Good topic.

I happily drive my 6 cylinder, heavy as hell, gets 15 miles to the gallon Jeep everywhere I go. Often times with only myself in it.

Would I save money and help the environment by getting a smaller car? I probably really do spend enough on gas to make up the difference in a car payment or whatever.

But I like being the only one on the road after a big snowstorm. I like being able to drive places other people can't. Even if the parking lot is full, there's always "jeep parking" available.

A six-cylinder jeep isn't exactly a giant truck... not what I was talking about, but the attitude's there... "If I do it, it's not part of the problem, and you're limiting my freedom." If you do or feel something, it's right, otherwise you wouldn't do or feel it. "I drive a gargantuan monster of a vehicle because I want to" is exactly exactly exactly the same as,"Screw insurance rates, I don't want to wear a helmet" in that everyone values their own opinion more than the betterment of society as a whole. Some value their own opinion more than anything else, but I digress. If we all drove 4-bangers, according to the law of supply and demand, demand would fall, and so would price. Of course, energy isn't as subject to those laws... Enron could fake power shortages and drive up prices, refineries could ratchet down production, thunderstorms off the coast of Africa cause speculatory bumps... the possibilities are endless for an industry serving customers who cannot exist without the product. Their only difficulty is staying just this side of the line where people stop going anywhere, and people are too used to their mobility, no matter the price. 'Til then, it's 400 million dollar retirement packages for the guys who drive the market.
Oh, and notice I did not mention pollution. The planet's warming, but I don't think we did it... it's very egotistical to think that we have that much effect. Mother Nature could off us all in an eyeblink, and the world wouldn't even hiccup. It's happened a bunch of times. I think that opinion would negate me as a treehugger. I'm outdoors probably as much as anyone on here, and I love these Pennsylvania woods and waters, but a guy's gotta make a living, too. I've entered the throws of yuppieness and recently bought a Ford Focus wagon. Gas mileage was a major concern when looking for a vehicle, especially since I'm commuting pretty far for school now. Trying to shove two 4x10 cabinets and a 6-space rack into a Buick Sedan just wasn't cutting it. I may have lost some coolness points (old sKool says that I need to start wearing plaid jackets if I drive a wagon), but after finding out how easy it was to load my equipment after the second gig, I'll take the tradeoff. I can haul all of my equipment with ease, and I get around 35 mpg on the highway. I'm not trying to have a pissing match about gas mileage or anything, but I know that as musicians, we often are limited in the types of vehicles that we drive (though I've seen many drummers fit whole kits into sedans). There are many options which are practical and friendly on fuel.
