Given the poor preseason that the Steelers had, Roethlisberger being out, Batch being unreliable at best, and the Dolphins actually being good...

If your favorite team plays preseason games to win them, there are BIG problems with the coaching staff.AtoMikEnRtiA wrote:Given the poor preseason that the Steelers had ...
During the very, very limited amount of time Pittsburgh starters spent on the preseason field, they were clicking on all cylinders. Haters, prepare for a truly loooong Steelers season; one that extends into February.
Methinks you've confused Charlie with some dude who used to wear No. 8 ...AtoMikEnRtiA wrote:Batch being unreliable at best ...

The "teal and orange" haven't been to the playoffs in five years and the last time they qualified, they lost in the wildcard round to the Ravens. Prior to that, the last time they won a divisional round playoff game was 1992 (a lot of you were still watching Mr. Rogers back then).
The Dolphins overall record since the 2000 season is 54-42 with no playoff victories and only one division title (2000). The Steelers are 64-31 by comparison with playoff berths four of the six years, three division titles and ... oh yes ... a Super Bowl victory.
Steelers still beat the fish without BB ... probably a close game though, something like ...
STEELERS — 14
Dolphins — 10

To me personally, I worry about preseason games. Not for the starters, but for the back-ups. These second and third strings are all competing hard for a chance to play this year and some just to be even on the team. So saying that, what happens when starters start getting hurt? It falls on the shoulders of the second and maybe even third string. And what information can you go by on their possible performance? Preseason.
OK, now...this could be an interesting game, but I'm going to go with...
Miami - 21
Pittsburgh - 17
BTW...Batch was 2-0 when starting last year. Maybe nothing fancy, but pretty or not, a Win is a Win, plus I am rooting for them, because Parker is my starting back. The better he does the better I do...haha....GO MANIACLYSMS!!!!

My point was, good coaches are looking at individual performance in preseason to determine which players fit the mold, they're not looking at the scoreboard. Sure, coaches will get into a 2-minute drill when the clock calls for it in a preseason game, but you'll rarely see a team going for an onside kick or a fake punt to get back into a preseason game. Good coaches play the situation in preseason.Dragan Kalasa wrote:To me personally, I worry about preseason games. Not for the starters, but for the back-ups. The Steelers second and third teamers faced their share of starting units this preseason. To me, it seemed like at least a few of their opponents were leaving a lot of starters on the field deep into the second quarter, which is fine if they need the work, but if they're trying to win the game, that's hella-gay.
Another point: When a back up takes the field in the regular season, it's usually with 9 or 10 starters as a supportiung cast, not 9 or 10 back ups, like in preseason.

Continue with the predictions. I just feel that I should've better explained myself...BadDazeRob wrote:My point was, good coaches are looking at individual performance in preseason to determine which players fit the mold, they're not looking at the scoreboard. Yeah, that was my point too. The scoreboard means absolutely nothing. And you are correct about the back-up is usually with starters however that one back-up can change the entire tempo of the game. For example, keep Pittsburgh's enitre Offense, but replace Ben with Tommy, or Hines with Santonio. You lose a small and very crucial piece of confidence, which can make or break the game.
Last year my personal belief, if Pittsburgh wouldn't have injured Palmer, I don't believe they would've went to the Super Bowl. He was picking those guys apart. But losing Palmer turned the game upside down for the Bengals. I'm not bawling around about it or anything (besides Jacksonville and Arizona are my teams) but even if it's one person, anyone could question the outcome of any game. Which is why I worry about Preseason, not because they lost according to the scoreboard, but it's what you may have to look for in the future.
Sorry for interupting the core meaning of this thread. I am done with this side-story now.

For the record, Palmer was injured in Cincy's second play from scrimmage, after completing one pass.Dragan Kalasa wrote:Last year my personal belief, if Pittsburgh wouldn't have injured Palmer, I don't believe they would've went to the Super Bowl.
