State the number 2 party school in the country.
Princeton listed the top 10 party and sober schools in the country.. No suprise, State is always on the top 10.. this time, Number 2..
We Are.... Drunken Sluts?
My big suprise in this... Shippensburg University is not on the list - which is suprising because it used to ALWAYS be on the top 10.. anybody who's been to Shippensburg knows it's a party mecca during school.. i guess all the good kids have taken over down at Ship.

Back in the late 70s, PSU still had several major spring parties, including Gentle Thursday, the Briawood Bash, The (real) Regatta, and a few others. Playboy magazine did a write up on the biggest party colleges and PSU didn't make the top 10 list...Playboy decided that PSU was in a party league of its own and should not even be listed with the other schools.
The Briarwood Bash was great...it got so big that just about the entire conglomeration of garden apartments (Briarwood, Southgate, LionsGate, etc.) on the Southeast side of town was one huge Bud-sponsered party with "Bands on the Rocks" all day long. I lived in Southgate for a few of these....too bad the fun patrol forced them to quit.

...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...

Just for the record "The Princeton Review" is out of New York City, has nothing to do with the University in NJ (other than the CEO is a PU grad), and it's not a "study" The lists are compiled from people logging into their website and voting... (kinda like American Idol for colleges) So the schools on the list really represent Universities where many students have 2 things... easy internet access and lots of time on their hands <grin>hell im still trying to figure out how princeton got so smart.. why the hell hasn't princeton become like the rest of Jersey..Funny how Princeton did the study (closet winos????)!!!!!
Now go log in and vote for your favorite !! haha

IUP has really put a lot of emphasis on cleaning up their image in the last 10 years. They found some "sneaky" ways to get the fraternities of campus if they didn't own their houses, for example.f.sciarrillo wrote:I am surprised that IUP isn't on that list. Grove City DOESN'T surprise me, though. You're not allowed to smoke, chew, or drink on the campus. They actually allow their guards and monitors to look in a guy's mouth for snuff.
Geneva College is worse. They only allow men in the girls' dorms on move-in day and move-out day. No dancing on campus, either.

Now I gotta cut loose, footloose, kick off your sunday shoes ...
Music Rocks!
I lived in the Princeton area for 10 years. Just moved out here this summer. People in Princeton literally do not believe that they are in the Great Garden State. And Grove City is a lie too. All of those preacher's kids know how to party...they just also know how to keep it quiet!

But THE worst one in PA - well there are two come to think of it - are Messiah College and Philadelphia Bible University. I remember meeting a couple of friends of a friend at the Bible college when I was at Princeton - the only damn thing thay talked about was how cool the sermon was that FRIDAY night and how awesome God was... I could have puked right there... I just went back and thanked God that bottles of good beer were only 2 bucks a pop at the Princeton D-Bar - located snugly in the basement of the graduate school...!

PSU adopts ‘no drinking during games’ mandate
By ROB CAROLUS
Daily News Staff Writer
Mere weeks after being designated the number two “party school” in the country in a nationally publicized poll, officials at Penn State University have taken steps that will impact the way Nittany Lion fans celebrate the 2006 football season.
The university has imposed a limited drinking ban at tailgate parties outside Beaver Stadium, the administration announced Wednesday. The ban, which will take effect this weekend for the opening day match up with Akron, will only be in force during the football games — parties taking place in the Beaver Stadium tailgating lots prior to kickoff will be permitted, as will those following the end of the game.
University spokespeople said this week that State College has a “drinking problem” and that the purpose of the ban was to trim down the number of people who only show up at the stadium to “party and drink.”
The new statute is the result of a yearlong effort to improve safety at the stadium and to eliminate the presence of those who simply want to party. Over the years, stadium police have responded to complaints from fans who said they feared their vehicles would be damaged by unruly revelers.
Along with the ban, university and State College Borough police will implement stepped-up patrols in and around the stadium to curtail rowdy behavior and underage drinking. The state police will also assign more troopers to duty during games. Authorities have even made arrangements to position a mobile command unit in the vicinity of the stadium, a show of a larger police presence.
Parties in tailgating areas will be permitted to resume following the final whistle of each home game.
Officials hope the new guidelines will inspire a new, family-friendly atmosphere at Beaver Stadium. Police plan on issuing warnings at first, to acclimate visitors with the new rule. This leniency will be afforded during the “first few home games.”
Last year, law enforcement officers issued 134 citations for liquor law offenses and another 60 for public drunkenness at the stadium.
Those who choose to ignore the new rules could be charged with defiant trespass, a summary offense that carries a maximum fine of $300.
Kickoff for the home opener versus Akron is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

nice article rob..
Kinda sucks they are doing that in-game ban - but then again I understand they want a family-friendly atmosphere during the game, and I can respect that.. although how much ass would it rule if Michigan, and Ohio State would roll into State College and be forced to play before 107,000 screaming hateful drunks.. imagine the student section if they were more intoxicated than ever!
I mean.. many coaches and players already state that being the visiting team in Beaver Stadium is one of the top 5 roughest things in College Football (espically after last year and the emergence of the "zombie nation white out"), but imagine if it was total insanity and hatred.. almost to the point where announcers, tv crews and journalists feared going in there for their lives.. State would be playing for National Titles every year..
oh wait, no they wouldn't - they're Penn State.. somehow they ALWAYS get fucked out of the National Championship...

They've been adding bans to this and bans to that in SC/PSU for 30 years now....it got so anal there that I resigned a cushy job at PSU ( even turned down the position of JoePa's network admin) just to move away.
My favorite ban was the no cruising zone, where on a busy day, an honest citizen could get a $100 fine for looking for a parking spot. Then there was the SS (seatbelt security) on patrol to keep us from abusing seatbelts. SC is ssssooooooo anal. The politically active wife of the council president honestly believes that the government should take children at 6 years old and train them because parents don't know how to do it. That's OK, there are probably a few on Rockpage who agree with her!
I've been "little Moscow" free now for 9-1/2 years!

lonewolf, I do agree with you...I have been working up here for about 4 years and while there are some things I LOVE about SC, one of which is my job and the intellectual atmosphere in which I work, I think this place is such a paradox. Many 'townies' here think they are SO liberal but many are in reality the most conservative and close-minded people I have ever known(someone I know calls them limousine liberals). They do not live among the other class, only people from other ethnic backgrounds who are just like them. Its really a bubble here. If you are reading this, and are a 'townie', I assure you I do not mean YOU, the people I know (who would be horrified if I showed up for work on a motorcycle; they think I'm a real freak believe me) would never know of a thing such as Rockpage. And the university and local government does ban things way too much up here; they love rules. At least they seem to totally stay out of the live music scene, which is a good thing!
I work with the students and the locals, and in a way I identify more with the students than some of the university-type townies (my age) who live here.

That's very astute. I'm going to do my best to remember that observation... I have little use for people like them, who judge others based on their own near-sighted view of the world. Thanks!----->JMS
