So, bitches
How the hell was the Hoedown?
I saw a little feedback on the hurricanes show thread, but that's about it.
Let's hear it guys, I know it may not be as fun as arguing about football or some gay ass bicycle race, but I couldn't make it and would like to hear some stories.

The Hoedown was a blast!
This was the first one I've attended. I even went ahead and purchased a tent so I could do the camp-over thing. I got there Saturday evening, and got to see performances from the Fat Man Band, the Feathers Family, two rappers from Lancaster (I didn't catch their names, but they needed help getting their SUV back up the hill when their tires spun on the dew-covered grass), Lowjack, Blackseed, and the overnight-til-dawn performance of The Flame Sky. The Flame Sky played til 6 AM, and it was classic - as they were doing their final song, the sun was rising on the horizon, and there was just enough humidity in the air that the sun had an orange glow, resulting in a literal "flaming sky" - I took some photos from behind the stage of the band playing, with the sun rising in front of them - hopefully they came out.
After catching a few hours of Z's in the tent, I got up and stuck around for Nine Planet Tour's set. Since I had live guests on the "Rocker," I had to leave early to get back to Altoona.
The whole thing was one cool vibe, lots of fans, campers and dogs (about a hundred of them, at least it looked that way at times) enjoying the music, outdoors, friends, brews, food and more. Thanks to Ray Springsteel for putting this thing on for 11 years - it was my first year, it won't be my last (I'm scheduling some vacation time off next year to take part in this again!). Thanks to The Flame Sky for allowing me to set up my tent on the outskirts of their tent "village" (also for helping me set the thing up), and to Tom, Jen and the campers across the way for the breakfast and coffee!
P.S. - Yankee Rose, who won - you or the shrubbery?

I think the shrubbery got the best of her Jim, at least it looked like it! l.o.l
We didn't get to play due to the sound man have'n to leave and all but, we will be back next year for sure and I'm def going to stay the whole weekend next year ! We were talk'n to Raymond next to the stage at dark on Sunday and saw someone back their really nice SUV into a tree , damn that sucks when that happens ! All I know is that place is very cool for such a event and Raymond is one of the coolest dudes I ever met. Sorry to hear about your golf cart man ! I think we had fun just hanging out on the hill laugh'n at the big white dog next to the stage get'n his head humped by another dog ,of course the beans and Bud had nothing to do with it. l.o.l
I can't wait till next year so I can get the full effect of the Hoedown ,seemed like a real fun time with a huge amount of great music.
We would like to send our deepest sympathy to the band that lost one of their own in a car crash, also to his family our hearts and prayers are with all of you. ( sorry I can't remember the names )

Roger the Shrubber: Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.
King Arthur: Did you say shrubberies?
Roger the Shrubber: Yes, shrubberies are my trade. I am a shrubber. My name is Roger the Shrubber. I arrange, design, and sell shrubberies.
Hijacked!! Sorry!!!

Ok, I'm finally recovered enough to make comment. WOW! Hoedown 11 was a blast. It's truly one of the only events where you can hear everything from Slayer to Dylan and everything in between all in the same evening. The music was quite good this year-some highlights include the Night Crawlers (they just keep getting better & better-it's scary), the Hurricanes ("Ain't Wastin' Time No More", especially), Blackseed (bastards played 3 of the same songs we were going to right before our set), Kyle Pickett & friends (TONE!), Soulstructure (SOUL!), the AAA Bluesband (Those guys are for real!), and countless other moments that are partially obscured by the veil of insobreiety.
Other highlights include: watching my 10 year old daughter smile as she performed for the first time at a Hoedown (thanks Dave!), watching my 1 1/2 year old son dance his ass off all weekend long, hanging w/JP, Hanging w/ Ray, seeing all the good friends I've made in 10 years of Hoedowning, listening to Kenny Brinkel hold us all in the palm of his hand w/ his original compositions Sunday afternoon, seeing Mandu again (the white dog by the stage), jamming a little w/ Drew Campbell on Sunday (WOW!), jamming on the (AMAZING) Hoedown 11 guitar created by Eckburg woodworks, as well as the aforementioned countless other moments...
There were a few downers: The news about the Chaos Method (my heart & prayers go out to you guys & the families involved), seeing a bunch of poeple continually taking advantage of Raymond's generous nature, watching the usual assholes w/ attitude problems & something to prove making general nuisances of themselves & disrespecting the Park (Ray has to pay for your destruction, guys), etc., but I'd rather not dwell on that...
All in all, a wonderful time -thanks to everyone who made an effort to come out & have a good time. We'll do it all again in about 360 or so days.

There was some sadness at the Hoedown with word that Michael Gingrich, a member of The Chaos Method, died in a car accident early Friday morning along Route 144 in Potter Township. He was 27. He left behind two sons. The Chaos Method was scheduled to perform Friday evening at the Hoedown. We would like to send our deepest sympathy to the band that lost one of their own in a car crash, also to his family our hearts and prayers are with all of you.
