National Roadie Day

Post by Jim Price »

Noted area soundman Rick Claar passed along this reminder to me:

"Today, July 31, 2006 is NATIONAL ROADIE DAY.

It is #30. That's right NRD is 30 years old.

The first one was July 31, 1976.

This is designated as the day we pause to remember all the people behind the scenes in the entertainment business. Those people that aren't usually recognized but play a very important role during shows. This includes sound and light technicians, roadies, and everyone else connected to making great shows."

Here, here. Ain't no rockers without the rollers. It's a hard job with long hours and low pay, and a lot of pressure at times, plus, you have to stay up on constantly-evolving technology. I've been on both sides of the console, and loved it, but nobody applauds when the soundman does a good mix, or a truckload of heavy, fragile gear magically winds up perfectly placed onstage.

Happy roadie day to me! Since i do my own.
Years ago i had a great drum tech, Bob Gray.
It was when i had the monster kit and cage and road cases.
He would have it up and down so freakin quick i could barely get drunk.
Im gonna send him a hallmark card!

Haha!! That's funny,I played in a band a few years back,we had 3 dudes that helped out before the show, then when it was over, they were way too drunk to lift or carry anything!! But,any time we get help,it is always appreciated. Same thanks goes out to the sound guys who put up with all the shit from us musicians.

Special thanks to the best head-banging, Motely Crue lovin' light tech that a band could ask for, Bret "Bert" Sonnenberg!

Also, special thanks to all of the sound technicians and crews that we work with.

Chris Knapik and crew
Paul "Shady" Shaffer and crew
Ritchie Johnson (Brown Bag Productions)
Greg Stager (Knight Sound)
Terry Sprankle (Knight Sound)
Zilly (City Limit's)
Jim Zemlock (Westmont Gardens)
Alex Gunther (Davey's Lounge)
Mark Skero
Tom and Scott (Flight 19 sound)

These are people that I have the uptmost respect for as people and for what they do.

God Bless the "ROADIE"!!! Lots of work, little pay, underappreciated!
Without these folks, many groups/artists wouldn't be able to pull off their shows. I've worked with Rick Claar, so kudos to ya Rick!!!!

I also would like to send out thanks to all production crew members I've
had the pleasure to have work for me or with me over the years! You know who you are!

We don't consider Tom (sound) & Bob (lights) roadies, they are full partners in the band!

Thats right everybody should give thanks to the roadie. He is all powerful and all doing for VERY LITTLE PAY. Mainly what they have to put up with every night and ego's. So, please give thanks to all of them and buy them some beer or get them laid.
