I'm all for free range drummers, we don't wanna be back there in the fish bowl!!! They do help with the sound, but dammit, I hate them things!

Has anyone seen the Ringling Bros. circus lately? They use a live band, and the drummer doesn't just have a shield, he's got a whole plexiglass room around him. Very tight sound, though. That's gotta be a tough job, too. When you're synched up with some dude doing backflips with flaming swords on a tight wire, it's not a good time to flub a beat.
Been out of town for a few days so, I'll try to catch up here.......
I totally agree about stage volume and position of amps. The way I look at it is......I'll take care of foh but, you gotta keep volume down and TELL me what you need in monitor mix. I have some stage experience and know the importance of being able to hear what you need to hear. I have mixed feelings on a drum shield. Some drummers do play hard and I don't want to have to ask them to change their dynamics for that particular night. Although, with a loud acoustic drum, you do need to bring amp levels up to meet it and it doesn't matter if the pa is off.......you are still going to be too loud. Guess that's a fine line I'm going to have to learn to walk there.

I don't own the system at yp. The 2500 is borrowed from my personal system until owner decides what amp he's going with. Tried to talk him into getting one for himself but, no luck.

OK, we played at YP Saturday through this new in-house system and all I have to say is Brad did an excellent job. I was impressed with FOH. Considering the horror stories about Frank’s volume concerns, the front mix was real good and it wasn’t super quiet.
The monitor mix was surprising. old sKool actually asked Brad — and this is a first — to pull me out of his monitor mix a little bit. I don’t spend an abundant amount of time on stage, but when I was up there, the monitor mix was pretty effing sweet.
I’m no tech head, but I’d guess that Brad is learning the system and getting into a groove. We were surprised to see him — he ran us several years ago at Dougherty’s and we spent the first 20 minutes there staring at each other until we realized, “hey, I know you.” Real cool cat.
Bottom line: Brad has a handle on things and we’re looking forward to working with him at upcoming YP gigs. We had a good crowd first time out and we’re anxious to return in October.
