World War III ... unfolding before our eyes
You wanna talk bizarre? This freaked me out. I signed in to AIM just now, and the AIM Today news'n'ads page popped up. Instead of saying "Hello" at the top like it usually does . . . . . it says "Shalom". Seriously. What the heck??
Anyway, my take in the situation is generally pro-Israeli. Why? The whole farcical "peace process" has always been a smokescreen to allow the Palestinians to continue their pathetic stones-and-suicide-bombs war against the far more capable Israel. It's a diplomatic shield. They are an annoying smartass kid who kicks the big bully in the nuts, then runs off to teacher whining that the big bully wants to beat them up.
The most shocking illustration of this was years ago when Nobel Peace Prize winning terrorist Yasser Arafat was at the helm. He signed one of his many disingenuous peace treaties, smiling and shaking hands with world leaders. Then went off that evening to lead an anti-Israeli rally, complete with chants of "death to Israel". A peace treaty and a call to arms . . . same man, same day. How (and why) do you deal with a two-faced huckster like that?
I'm neither Jewish nor Muslim, but Israel is a stable, civil, modern nation. I'd rather deal with them than the fragile little powderkeg states in that region, who have a hard enough time keeping Muslim from killing Muslim, let alone providing a solid society for their citizens.

I spent a few months in the Middle East earlier this year (Bahrain, Jordan, Dubai and Abu Dhabi) and it really opened my eyes as to what it is really like there, though I wasn't in an "Axis of Evil" country. I wasn't afraid to walk around the cities at night by myself and people were very, very friendly. I mostly stayed in Bahrain, the island is about the size of Washington DC with a population of about 600,000. During my stay on the island there were two muggings and someone threw a Maltov cocktail at a cop car. During that same time in Blair county (population about 125,000) there were 10 shootings, 2 kidnappings and countless robberies.
I was talking to a veteran the other day who was in Beirut during the first gulf war. He said that he felt safer there during the war than he feels at home now in Central PA.

Israel.....to set the record straight..is no one to fuck with! They have been dealing with these issues for many many years. This is just Iran's quick thinking to get the issue off of the incentives proposed my many goverments like ours that they don't want and focus on the war they do want. Do they care if they die...of course not...
