How many of you guys are familiar with the John Cougar song Rain on the scarecrow? And would you say that it gets a fair amount of radio airplay? Trying to end a debate my band is having. Thanks
Rain On The Scarecrow is a cool tune. I used to play it and always enjoyed performing it. I just heard it on the radio yesterday and thought it would be a cool tune to do with my band now.
I'd say it gets a decent amount of airplay, but not as much as his other songs. And thats a shame, if you ask me. Its definately one of his best songs, and it really has something to say. I'm not much of a John Cougar fan myself, but i think Rain on the Scarecrow should be heard much more than the rest of his songs; some of which are entirely overplayed.
It sounds very similar to The Smithereens "Blood and Roses" and there is another song that sounds almost like it, so between all 3 of them it sounds like its played more than it is. I don't hear it that often.
Definitely a cool tune. Actually, that's my favorite John Mellencamp album. I've always wanted to cover Lonely 'Ole Night. Minutes to Memories is another cool song off that album.

Ya man, that song makes me wanna go down to the bank and kick some white collar loan officers ass for screwing over a farmer. That song has heart in it. The way he sings the vocals is so convincing. The song is aggressive yet their is no heavily distorted guitars in it at all. Just an awesome song in my opinion.
I don't think Scarecrow gets near enough air time. I kinda get sick of hearing Jack and Diane. One of his best songs never gets any air time that being Peaceful World. Cool song.
What was the name of that Mellencamp album that was more of a Americana thing? He had a dobro player on it and a double bassist, maybe a real stripped down drum kit. That was some good stuff!
