Who's done this before ?

Post by INFUSED »

Greets all,
We were wondering if any of you have ever participated in MODERN ROCK DOWN, an event at the Thunderdome in Baltimore, Maryland.

What are the PROS and CONS from a bands perspective ?
The email we, and I'm sure a lot of you have received, is below. Any feed back would be way cool. 8)
thanks

We would like to invite your project to participate in Modern Rock Down 2004.

Let me tell you a little more about the festival. MRD will be held in March, on the 12th, 13th and 14th at the Thunderdome in Baltimore, Maryland.

Benefits of playing this show include playing on a SINGLE STAGE in a showcase style atmosphere for a captive audience of rock fans, Record Label A&R Representatives, management firms, professional photographers, sponsors, industry professionals and members of the local and regional media, while sharing the bill with other high-power signed and unsigned artists.

CMT Productions, Inc., in conjunction with the Thunderdome will be providing all backline equipment for this event, which means that bands chosen to play will only need to supply guitars and basses, cords, snare, throne, sticks and cymbals! Those bands using effects will be allowed to use pedals, processors or amp heads only. Each band has a 25 minute set, with the exception of Headlining acts. Full lights and sound are provided.

Bands playing this event are allowed to sell their merchandise freely. No percentage of merch sales will be taken by CMT or the Thunderdome.

The headliners list is still be developed at this time. More information can be found at www.cmtproductions.com and www.marketyourmusic.com

Bands interested in playing this event must be developmentally ready and able, meaning that the band has a strong following and is able to make a committment to CMT and the Thunderdome to bring in twenty (20) people/fans. This is also how your band is paid for your appearance.

heres your catch, its $600 to play....you have to have money in for 20 tickets at $30 a pop within a week or two of the show...you get to pay 6 bills to play 25 minutes for indie labels basically....we were gonna do this last year but, to pay that much for so little, we said nah, it's cool....they actually got pissy with us for telling them no too...

A word from experience, ANY battle fo the bands type of deal, should set your spidey sense tingling. Usually it's some club owners way of getting a whole bunch of bands to work cheap (if not free) for a few weeks, by dangling some prize (that's almost never as good in reality as it sounds in the brochure) Be especially careful if you have to travel to participate cause odds are ANY prize will usualy go to the hometown boys even if they suck.

I'm not saying that ALL B.O.T.B. deals are rip offs, I'm sayin be careful and go in with your eyes open
