Hello,

The Band False Icons wants to book a show in Altoona for Mid September, but we are not sure where our Music would go over at the one place that we did play closed, and the other I tried to book BUT was turned away and that was Aldo's, Please check out our web site to hear our stuff @www.myspace.com/falseiconsemerge, and we will also need an opening act too.

It's gonna be hard to book anything this late in the year...alot are booked months/year in advance..So you might want to "BE" and opener to get a foot in the door and noticed.....Alot of clubs/bars won't take a chance on a new band that they haven't a following. and it maybe hard to get a "known" band in that area to be an opener, and that leaves the bar to take a chance on 2 new bands that everyyone is unfamiliar with..(risky)

Try posting this in Musicians/bands wanted and watch for bands needing openers there...Hope this gets you in!

Yeah, as a club owner, I have a hard enough time paying for one act....a new band starting out won't bring the local crowd in....you may be good but you have to demonstrate that before you can get paid for it.

best bet would be to try the lions den or classic attitudes, or settle for a little further west in Johnstown..

Thank You For your help, it's greatly Appreciated, the reason why I am asking is because I have been getting E-mail asking when we are going to play the altoona area we are all hooking up this friday in Pittsburgh with Ministery at the REX Theater,

here's an update........ JOHN BECHDEL Lead Guitarest for False Icon's is Now a Fulltime member of the band Ministery, But he is also pushing forward with FALSE ICON'S working on getting False icon's on Ministery's Label.

Mark, I hate to say it, but even with John playing with Ministry full time, I think the other cats here are right, you may have to open for someone. You've been around here enough, Altoona is a weird place for music. It's really hit-or-miss with crowds, and a lot of the crowds here are very "clicky", meaning they won't take a chance on a new band unless someone from their past is in it.

For the type of music you do, the pickings are slim for local clubs at this point, especially after Peter C's and Crowbar closed (Crowbar would have been perfect). I would suggest Aldo's, but you said that option was already exhausted. Perhaps if you market to Aldo that John Bechdel has some national credibility, it would be a good selling point to get some people in the door. Also hooking up with one or two other original acts that already play Aldo's might be an avenue to get you in the door. You might also try City Limits; Claudio might be game to try False Icons, again with John's national credibility. Good luck, I'd like to check out your show again sometime soon.
