How many songs.....
Ok, here is a question that i dont think has been covered yet, and if it has, im a total douche.
How many songs does your band play, on average, in one night. How many songs are necissary to play a gig, just on average, dont factor in length of song, because if you are Tool or a Tool cover band, you only need maybe 1 or two songs to fill an entire 3 hour slot.
If you are doing a 3 hour show, how many do you need?
If you are playing a 4 hour show, how many?
Now, Mr. Watters, im not going to make you answer this simply because i know you are normally swimming in an ocean of Wild Turkey by the end of the night, and lose concept of time and space, but for all others......Let it begin.
(always gotta find a good spot for a bobby watters joke)

Depends on how fast you play them......you could play as many or as few as you like......just get a speed metal drummer in your classic rock band and you could play Free Bird in 2-3 minutes......leaving time for Foreplay/Long Time, Stairway to Heaven, In A Gadda Da Vidda, some hippie jams, and maybe some jazz fusion improv all in the first set
.OO Buck songs are generally shorter, so we did maybe 15 or 16 per set. Sidestep did 11-12 songs per set. Both of those acts generally did 3 sets... strummeracousticshow usually only takes one 5-10 minute break per show (and many nights, no break, if the crowd rocks), and oddly enough, I don't talk as much, so I do about 50 songs per night.
My first band's first show was 2 sets of 8 songs each, but we were green, so there was a LOT of dicking around between songs... tuning, fixing stuff, blah-blahing,etc. It's comical to listen to the show tapes.----->JMS

We usually do 35-40 songs in a 3 hour show and 40-45 songs in a 4 hour show.
We have about 100 songs on our song list and rotate them around so we don't get bored playing the same sets all the time. We have songs that we only play if requested and ones that we pull out of the archives just for fun once in a while.

The last time we played five songs! But they were all good ones though..
We can usually do 40-60min right now. We havent worked any covers into the set yet. We also have some more originals that aren't quite ready yet.
And if Dirt goes on a gin fueled pollitical rant, that'll stretch things out a bit too!

Out here, we have to take 30 minute breaks...Casinos want people to get up and gamble, so they make the breaks long. On the weekends here in Wendover, we take 45 minute breaks which makes for a long ass night. we do 4 one hour sets here, but it's a totally different thing than back in PA. I miss doing the opener thing with two sets. Or just 3 45 minute sets, that's a short night.
