SONGS I NEVER WANT TO PLAY AGAIN
While we're on the subject of favorite songs, hardest, etc. I thought it would be fun to list the 5 or 10 songs you never want to play again . . . EVER!
Mine are, in no particular order:
1. Sweet Home Alabama, or and other Synyrd song.
2. Proud Mary
3. Old Time Rock and Roll (I like just about any other Seger song.)
4. Wipe Out - This one should be unanimous.
5. The Electric Slide
6. Alright Now (okay song, I've just played it too many times)
7. Last Kiss
8. JOy to the world
9. Any Polka
10 Day of the Wedding Polka, in particular - this one is #1
Okay, let's see yours. Maybe we can put together the all time worst set list ever.

4. Summer of '69
5. Take it easy
6. Me and Bobby McGee (Janis was great but she's dead now, let's move on)

For whom the bell tolls- Metallica
Unsung-Helmet
Any Rob/White Zombie
Any Godsmack ( I really hate this band)
Any Disturbed
Wow I always knew I was a cynical prick but no wonder we don't do any covers. I hate everything. This list could go on for days, so I'll stop now.

Don't forget Brown Eyed Girl. I've officially wiped the chord structure of that song from my head, so even if someone were to request it, I have the excuse that I don't know how to play it.
BTW, the coolest local version I ever saw of that song was by Vinyl Tap, because the bass player did cool pops in certain places. I wish I were a better slapper.

1. sober ( i LOVE tool but every freakin bar band covers sober)
2. for whom the bell tolls (metallica has so many other 'old' good tunes, but most bar bands dont have the talent to learn them, so we always hear this one)
3. sweet home alabama
4. brown eyed girl
5. gimme three steps
6. harden my heart ( i don't even know who originally did this stupid song, but i have covered it with a band for TOO long)
7. help (beatles)
8. black (pearl jam) i've covered this song on bass, drums, and guitar, with different bands, and it is annoying on every instrument after playing it several hundred times.
9. gold dust woman
10. long cool woman
11. any shania twain song that i have to learn for weddings on the piano.
12. rocking in the free world (there should be a law that says bands can no longer play this song)
13. wonderful tonight
14. i shot the sheriff
15. i wanna fall in love (chris isaac)
these are the first 15 that popped into my head. if i keep trying, i would be here all night, so i'll let someone else add some more songs. all the lists seem pretty good so far...

"Brown eyed girl" and "Two tickets to paradise" are the two songs that I just refuse to ever do. During a short stint with a bar band in the early 90's I refused to do "Brown eyed girl" and left the stage when the other members did it.
Now don't get me wrong I have done my share of cheeze, but I draw the line on those 2.

We have the "No Margaritaville Rule" in our band. I have never played it in a band and we never intend to play it.
We also do not do "Sweet Home Alabama", "Freebird" or "Stairway To Heaven".
Many of the songs mentioned we do (not that we really want to), we used to do, or we only pull them out when necessary. You all know the deadly 13 songs that always go over. Some of the songs mentioned I have never done and there are a few on that list I always wanted to play but never did and some I never wanted to do because they are over played.

Still love AC-DC. I'm betting you're talking about the "girly" songs: "Shook Me All Night Long", etc. They did other songs. "Night Prowler" still puts a chill up my spine, "Shot Down In Flames"... I saw Scream last night do a pounding version of Live Wire. AC-DC was largely the soundtrack to my high school years, because only boys liked Kiss, but everybody dug AC-DC. Of ocurse, they were brand new in the states then.
I refuse "Mony Mony," "Old Time Rock & Roll," "Color My World," "Achey Breaky Heart" (oh, man, I played current country when that hit... it was brutal), and I have a moratorium on Billy Idol, 80's New Wave, and anything on Froggy in the last decade.------->JMS

Achy Breaky Heart...oh GOD! That has to be the worst song that was ever a huge hit. I found the lyrics online and they are fuckin retarded. There aren't many lines and I think a 4th grader wrote them. She has a brother named Clift? What the fuck? I never heard the name Clift ever!
You can tell the world, you never was my girl,
You can burn my clothes when I am gone.
You can tell your friends, just what a fool I've been,
And laugh and joke about me on the phone.
And you can tell my arms, go back into the farm,
You can tell my feet to hit the floor.
You can tell my lips, or tell my fingertips,
They won't be reaching out for you no more.
Don't tell my heart, my achy breaky heart,
I just don't think he'd understand.
'Cause if you tell my heart, my achy breaky heart,
He might blow up and kill this man.
You can tell your ma, I moved to Arkansas,
You can tell your dog to bite my leg.
Or tell your brother Clift, his fist can tear my lip,
He never really liked me anyway.
Tell your Aunt Louise, tell anything you please,
A simple written note is not OK.
You can tell my eyes, but watch out for my mind,
It might be walkin' out on me today.
So don't tell my heart, my achy breaky heart,
I just don't think he'd understand.
'Cause if you tell my heart, my achy breaky heart,
He might blow up and kill this man.

the one song (currently) that every time i hear a band cover it, it makes me want to fucking shoot myself in the head cuz NOBODY has ever gotten it right..
"Laid to Rest" by Lamb of God
(okay wait, Ophelia Lives covered it pretty accurately, sounded good - but they let this douchebag come up and kill the vocals.. so unless it's them with a better singer - Im not interested in hearing it)
... from my perspective, im sure Dusty will agree.
