Ron Wickersham and Rick Turner gave me 5 strings, and I use them. Well, technically, since I play a Carvin, Lowell Kiesel gave me five strings, but Alembic was the first bass manufactuer to bring 5 strings to the masses, so I have to give props to Wickersham and Turner. If I played a 6 string, I could then give props to Leo Fender for the Fender VI, but that was more of a baritone bass, so I should probably give props to Ken Smith.

What we're we talking about again? Sorry, I like talking about bass. ;)

One word: MANOWAR. When I want to listen to some metal I listen to them. Some I know do not like them. They are a good group, the musicianship is right in there. Plus Karl Logan, their lead guitar player, is from Pittsburgh.

If i could put my 2 cents in, spellbound, thank you for the invite to open for us.

As for metal...

There is a lot of metal that i do like, Children of Bodem, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, stuff along that line. I like children of bodem and shadows fall because of the almost neo-classical approach their guitarists take to metal. There is a lot of metal that is nothing but pure classical style shredding, which is kick ass because that shit hasnt really surfaced since the 80's with guys like Jason Becker, Michael Angelo Batio, and Yngwie Malmsteen.

Then there is some metal that i dont like, we all have genres that we dont like, but we dont need to get on a public forum and bash genres of music, do it on your own time to people who dont like it either.

IMO, this post needs shut down because it isnt productive, and its only going to start problems

Peace

If you consider the beginning of heavy metal to be Black Sabbath's inception in 1970, metal music has been around 36 years. And like rock and roll itself, metal has seen changes and variations over the years. And metal has been around long enough that different generations have different definitions for what constitutes "metal." In 10-15 years, it's likely that some new variation of metal will relegate today's metal to old news.

I think there is worthwhile stuff from metal and all of its hybrids and offshoots. Like any music, there is cream that rises to the forefront and defines the various subgenres of metal.

I'll probably always be most loyal to classic 70's and 80's-style metal. In fact, Friday night I'm going to Pittsburgh to catch a regional "classic metal" triple-bill - Icarus Witch, White Witch and Stronghold - playing at the Hard Rock Cafe at Station Square. Each of these bands has excellent guitar shredders and powerhouse singers, it should be a kickass show!

I guess we all take what we do way to seriously, but thats because we love to play our respective stuff so much. There is no doubt that with a forum with lots of musicians of different backgrounds there is going to be some type of disagreement. But at the end of the day were all musicians no matter what your skill or interest and thats it.

the reason I wrote this post is because I notice a lack of respect from most metalheads for any kind of music other than metal.

The shoes not so comfy on the other foot is it?

I have never been a fan of metal, so I'm not familiar with the "different genres and offshoots" I take it that the style that I'm referring to is "metalcore"

I don't like it, and I make no apoligies

However, I do like Iron Maiden, certain older metallica, and I'm sure there's other things that I could be pointed to that I would enjoy as well.

The music that I play is as far from classic blues and jazz as it is from metal, however I feel a lot more at home talking to a good blues musician than most metalheads.

You guys like metal, good for you, I don't like it, and I still think I'm in the majority of most people on the planet, however I'm in the vast minority on rockpage.

Spellbound By Metal,
you're going to play what you want to play, and I'm going to play what I want to play. I never called anybody out and said that "you suck" I said that I don't care for a genre of music. If you can't discuss such things on a music forum then where the hell are you supposed to discuss it?
(ken that goes for you too)

By the way guys, I like Punk music, bash away

I can take it, and I can recognize the shortcomings of a genre of music, even one I like.

-mitch, echo chamber

P.S. I love the accoustic cab

discussing music is one thing, and should be done on a music forum. Coming out of left field and bashing a specific genre of music on a site that is a mixing pot of many musicians is another thing.

I said that many of the local metal bands have instrumental talent and I'm sticking to that.

I can't believe what I'm reading. I thought everyone had agreed to try to chill on the flaming.
But along comes another asshole to start some more shit.
I'm sick of all the whining and bitching. I used to think this page was cool but I'm realizing that most of you (not everyone)are whiney little bitches with nothing better to do. It thought this was a music page used to celebrate music in all it's forms and help each other out not sit a bitch and bash each other.
GROW THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a metal musician as well as a blues and rock musician and I support tons of other music. I go see Ribbongrass, Giants of Science, The Desperados, Killjingle, House of Cain, Pelt, and a ton of other bands in J-town and when I get the chance I try to get out to Altoona. If a band sucks they suck because of lack of talent not because of the genre they play. If they are good at what they do, no matter what style, then I'm all for it. I don't know how many shows we played with other styles of music just to try to get everybody on the same page and just have a good time.
You all need to step back and take a look at yourselves and say why did we join Rockpage? Certainly not to bash each other and other forms of music. This goes for everyone that has done it.
If you want to be a dick and bash shit go to Blabbermouth.net
They're all a bunch of whiney little bitches too.
I won't posting for a long time cause I'm sick of the attitude on here.

 Hey...a joke is a joke...Don't even think for one minute I bash country music!!!...If you knew me you'd kno I played in a country/rock band for 7 years!....I can joke about it now!...I only quoted a comedian...If it wasn't for playin country I'd have never got a start...and it helped me to play alot cleaner...I can watch a country band one minute and a rock band the next! its all good when its good!
Don't think I was bashing anything....I was going for a laugh...not a flame war!

Look at my Cd,cassette, and even albums and yes..."8-track" collection...you'll find everything there!
