Just what Altoona needed...
Nobody will ever be happy!...........Here's why. So called "Rock 'n Roll" is too old!........... It started with Bill Haley and the Comets with "Rock Around the Clock" around 1955 and it's still comming out. Remember, the music before "Rock 'n Roll" was "Big Band" and it only lasted about 15 years. If you like "Big Band" you can find a station that mostly covers it all like 1230 AM in Johnstown but because "Rock 'n Roll" is over 50 years old, there's just too much music for one station to cover. Think about how many types of so called Rock there are. 50's, 60's, then starting in the 70's, it really starts to split up like "Top 40", Album Rock, Southern Rock, Disco, Punk, Art Rock. After the 70's, we're looking at 3 more decades. It never ends.
I think most people's favorite music is the music that they listened to in high school so maybe there's a 6 or 7 year peroid of music that they like and if it ain't that, IT SUCKS!.........It get's hard to make people happy.
I'm a band person like a lot of people on this board. Think about what it like when you're playing a wedding where the people you play for are from age 3 to 90. People not only want songs like "Proud Mary" and "Wipeout", but everything from "Mary Had a Little Lamb", to Heavy Metal and more. You just can't win!

I wish 94.3 would come in decently down here in Bedford/Everett. We're stuck with 107.5. Not too bad for classic rock though, sometimes they surprise you, but they do tend to get old. Plus it's one of those stations that doesn't have local DJ's, it's all pumped in via sattelite from somewhere. Well, except for a few hours in the mornings, when they a local guy on, but wow, is he ever painful to listen to at times...
I drove down to Winchester, Va last Friday to pick up my new Buell, and had nothing but radio the whole way. The whole ride consisted of scanning from classic rock to top 40 to country to classic rock stations for 2 hours.
I ended up turing the radio off, and then smiling because my bike doesn't have a radio.

I just wish Forever broadcasting would make up their damn minds. They've been messing with the stations in Johnstown for sometime now. FIrst 92.1 got moved to 99.1 then it became hot 99, then they switched them back.
I liked the good old days.
92.1 modern pop
99.1 Qwik rock (modern alternative and college)
94.3 the Q classic rock
The radio stations have sucked for years around here. I have XM but the quality is pretty bad.
I mostly listen to my iPod.

Actually, I like the fucking CARS, but that's why I have all of their CDs.
Anyhoo, I used to listen to Rocky 99 or Rocky 92 or whatever the hell it is now over here in Johnstown and they started to play some decent stuff.
I haven't been able to listen to the radio at my new job and I was shocked when I turned this station on in my car and heard what I heard.
I definately agree it's all about the cash because I used to sell advertising for QWK Rock years ago. I know how a station operates. Hey, business is business and unfortunately those business decisions DO NOT always benefit us regular citizens.
So complain like Kevin said, but I doubt it will be much good.
What I want to know is Why oh Why do people live in the past around here. The mills are closed people! There has been 3 or 4 music revolutions since Skynyrd's heyday---probably more.
Johnstown and apparently some areas in Altoona need to get with the times!

I like Q-94 and think all of their DJs are great. I also wish 104.9 would go back to playing modern Rock - I can't get that station up here, but for when I moved to Altoona, it would have been nice, on occasion. (Especially if "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "We Are The Champions" comes on Q-94!
) I've tried to listen to 105.9 out of Philipsburg, once in a while, and got so tired of hearing the same songs repeated. While I like them too, it seems they really, REALLY like the Foo Fighters.
Also, the one DJ in the afternoon, she repeated "Papa John's Pizza" so many times, and talked on and on - I couldn't listen to it! I do LOVE Classic Rock, and you want to know something? So do a large portion of the "younger generation". Don't sell them short, they know GOOD Music when they hear it!

Most of the classic or classic/new rock radio stations seem to all play the exact same list of songs by certain groups. Listeners get tired of the same songs all the time. If there was more song variety, that would definitely increase listeners.
Here are some groups that no matter what rock station I hear are the only songs that seem to get played all the time. These are good songs but these groups had lots of other hits. Other bands might get 1 or 2 songs played to death over and over and nothing else they ever did. Aren't these stations permitted to play anything else?
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird, Sweet Home Alabama, Call Me The Breeze, and occasionally I know a little, That Smell
Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall, Money, Comfortably Numb, and occasionally Wish You Were Here, Young Lust, Run Like Hell
Rush - Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Working Man, Spirit of Radio
Billy Idol - White Wedding, Rebel Yell
Cream - Sunshine Of Your Love, White Room
Doors - Roadhouse Blues, LA Woman, Lover her Madly
Foghat - Slow Ride
Ted Nugent - Cat Scratch Fever, Stranglehold
Van Halen - The Cradle Will Rock, Panama, You Really Got Me
The Rolling Stones - Jumping Jack Flash, Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman, Start Me Up
Poison - Talk Dirty To Me, Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, Will Will Rock You/We Are The Champions
Z Z Top - La Grange, Sharp Dressed Man, Legs, Gimme All Your Lovin', Waitin' For The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago
Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me, Photograph, Rock Of Ages
Bachman Turner Overdrive - Takin’ Care Of Business

Just popping in to say, thanks for all the feedback. We do appreciate all of the calls and emails that are going through to management. There may be hope, as there's a meeting about Rocky coming up very soon. I'm not at liberty to divulge anything else about said meeting, though. Keep the faith, folks.
And remember, none of us (myself, Paige, Tommy, or X-Man) had anything to do with the change. I'm sure it's not the Rockpagers, but please don't take it out on us. Again, we just work here. The decision came down from WAY over all our heads.
Rock On.
Kevin
