Post by SATAN »

I just heard on Sirius that the date for Vh1's behind the music (Pantera) will air May 11th. I can't wait to see this.

I watched it last night and thought it was all about that asshole lead singer Phil. I am admittedly not a bit metal fan but I do appreciate a great guitar player, no matter what his style.

I wanted to see much more about Dime and his blazing guitar. But the show seemed to revolve around how much of a total dipshit the lead singer was.

Yeah, like we need an hour long show stating the obvious. You don't even need to be a metal fan to know that Phil's a dipshit.

P.s. Joe, we're at City Limits on the 20th; you should come on out.

I'm going to use the word dipshit more often.

For an hour long show I thought it was pretty good. I think a full show dedicated just to Dime would be cool. Being a big Ratt fan I really dug their "Behind the Music" as well. I always thought Robin Crosby had died of AIDS. Didn't know it was the heroin that killed him. Two good bands both ruined by that stuff. What a waste.

Heroin has to be near the top for "things that destroy a musician/band".
Probably right between ego's and vagina's.

Kenny , Robbin did have AIDS. From what I read in a journal posted on the web by a friend of his, he was aware of his disease, but his heroin addiction is what killed him. Sad really. You don't really know how big of a contribution he made to Ratt until you look at the liner notes. Crosby co-wrote or was the solo writer for pretty much every song in their heyday.

Yeah, I knew he had AIDS. Just always thought that's what killed him. I didn't realize what an important part of the band he was until I saw the show last night. Man that's a shame. Still one of my all time favorite bands & Warren is one of my favorite guitarists. He just has a way of making it scream & sing at the same time. Glad you guys are keepin' the 80's alive Vic! Rock on!!!

I have a different take on this. I know Phil fukked up, but I think he was just as much Pantera as was Dime, if not more important. I thought it concentrated too much on Dime, who was great, but wholly shit.

Superjoint vs Damageplan? I take Superjoint anyday.

Just my thoughts.

id take damageplan anyday. i found superjoint to be annoying. Phil's voice sucks now i think. he looked fucked up on the behind the music! if there was never a Dime, there SURE AS HELL wouldnt have been a Phil!!!

Yeah, Pantera was 4 dudes. but come on, Dimebag Darrell MADE that band!!!
His riffs and solos ARE incredible.
When i saw Damageplan, they did some Pantera songs, and Patrick Lachman did one HELL of a job....Phil who????

My brother and I discussed this further. The deal is, I was a casual fan of Pantera. The BTM didnt explore enough of the band for a guy like me who was not the biggest fan. For the Pantera fanatics BTM prob tied up some loose ends some of you did not know, or was the chance to get some closure on the whole thing.

To me, Phil looked no worse than Ozzy did during some of his clean "relapse" years. I am not ready to hand the term of "god" to Dime however, while I really dug some of his tone, riffs and technique, some of Pantera is just a little too sterile for my taste. Would I buy the CD's again if I lost them? I might have only bought one or two to begin with, and Vulgar and Far Beyond would be the essentials.

But all I saw at one point was how Phil was telling ppl bout back pains and needing time off , and yet he was touring with other bands. Maybe he just needed a a fucking break from the egomaniacal brothers? All I got was Vin's account.

Phil didnt pull the trigger that night. He's just a recovering heroin addict that has lost a lot of talent and fans.

My girlfriend actually got Warren's guitar pick at the Rock Never Stops show we saw last year in Wilkes-Barre. Eric and Jeff from Cinderella hooked us up with front row center seats and the lot of us got some real cool stuff. My lady got his pick, I got Alex Grossi's pick (That would be his last tour with Quiet Riot), and Iva's wife got a ton of stuff. Got a Blotzer drumstick and I believe she got either a Fred Coury or Michael Foster drumstick, along with some picks. Didn't get a chance to meet the Ratt guys that night. Their meet and greet was during Cinderella's set. Wanted to tell them that when we first played with Eric and Jeff's new band Naked Beggars, Eric told me I looked like Robbin and wished he had a camera on him to get a pic of me while my makeup was still fresh. Said Blotzer and Warren would have gotten a kick out of it LoL.

I don't fault him for being a recovering addict. Actually, I don't fault him at all for anything, because I don't get caught up in musicians' personal lives or anything anyways. But I think a lot of people were put off by his self-righteous rants at shows. Even on the Live: 101 Proof, he goes off on some tangents like he's laying down some deep philosphoical John Locke dialectic or something. It's not like the dude's exactly Steven Hawking to begin with. I don't mind an artist saying what's on his/her mind, but if I go to a show, I don't want to sit there for a half an hour while I hear about his or her politics or whatever. I know a guy who went and saw Ted Nugent, and he said that Ted talked more about hunting than he actually played music.
