Just what Altoona needed...

Post by Blain »

Another freakin' Classic Rock station. As if one in town wasn't enough, Forever's Rocky 104.9 flipped to Classic Rock. So in case you're tired of hearing Skynyrd, Zep, Boston, and the same 500 tired songs on Q94, you can also hear them on Rocky now.

Rocky didn't do a great job with the Active Rock format. It could have been much better, but at least it was there, and it was a place to hear music that you can't hear on another local radio station. QWK Rock is still doing Active Rock, and 105.9 is doing Alternative, but the signals pretty spotty in Altoona, and forget about listening to either inside a building - the best you'll do is get them in the car.

Now, we basically have three Classic Rockers in town. Rocky, Q94, and Rocky 99.1. The two Rockys seem to be about 90% classic and maybe 10% current/recurrent.

Good luck to them. I just can't listen to that crap over and over and over again. Time to find something else for that radio pre-set.

I gave up on FM a long time ago. I really like some older songs, but that is why I bought CD's.

ESPN radio on AM... JP would be a fine addition to it!

I was wondering why they were playing skynyrd today. I still wish they would go back to the format before rocky. I liked that so much better ... You know; seeing that they switched formats again, Maybe they should maybe change the again ???

Oh, and I still stay you are better off getting satellite. I got XM radio and love it. Sirius is great as well. With those you have a lot more variety than your normal, same song every five minute, local radio station.

I think Q94 should burn down Rocky's building and hire their talent. Screw classic rock. If anyone does it, it should only be Q94.

We need a metal station, but not death metal

The thing is, metalcore fans are more hip to modern technology and don't a need a radio to supply them with music. On the other hand, if you gave a Skynyrd fan an iPod they'd take it to Crazy Hazy's to see if they could trade it for a wifebeater and a can of snuff.

(Just kidding. Skynyrd fans own guns. Don't piss them off.)

I say we get our wife and kid and nephew and nephew's closeted lesbian girlfriend to use illiterate non-sequiturs to get them to put current rock back on.

*Sigh*

I knew this was coming.

Believe me, people are PISSED about this. So, here's what I'm going to do.

If you want to make your voices heard about the format change on Rocky 104.9, call this number:

(814) 941-9800 ext. 102

That's the number for Dave Davies, the General Manager of Forever Broadcasting in Altoona. Call and flood him with voice mail that you want us to go back to what we were.

Just remember, the jocks didn't make the decision, so please don't take it out on us. We just work there. And none of us are happy about the switch, either.

Thanks.

When Rocky switch from Magic to Rocky I was really pumped. The station played what I liked to listen to. This area needed a station like that for a long time. We don't need another classic rock station. If I want to listen to classic rock I will turn on Q94. The Q is the king of classic in my book. If I wanted to hear new rock I turned to Rocky 104.9. Now is the time to say something if we want the old Rocky back. With enough feedback from the masses perhaps this change to classic can be undone.

I can't see a situation where they would change it back. It isn't about the listeners, it's about sales. The sales staff there apparently didn't understand how to sell the 18-34 male demo, thus the station wasn't making any money. They must have thought that they'd have more success selling a 25-54 demo.

The easier thing to do would have been to fire some sales people and hire some that knew how to sell it.

I'll make a call and send an email, but I'm sure forever broadcasting is
focusing on the $$$. They probably see Q94 doing well and want to cash in. Q gives away a Harley, Rocky gives away a HONDA, now I think it's four wheelers right? Whatever, the point is I highly doubt they'll listen
as I just heard some outdated good ole' boy commend them on the switch
as he requested the fucking Cars. Listen to the BUZZ if you like new stuff.
If you like classic rock listen to Q94. If noone listens to the crap then they'll have to redirect right. Reminds me of a quote from Sam Walton,
There is only one boss and that's the customer, and he can fire everyone,
from the CEO on down, by simply taking his business elsewhere.

I haven't listened to local radio (FM) for 2 years. I switched to satellite (XM). The only time the local stations are on is the 3.2 seconds when the alarm goes off in the morning before I turn it off. Not that I don't like classic rock, but a little goes a long way in my world.
