social security the solution
social security the solution
I'm a baby boomer and I worked hard saved some money for retirement thought that Social Security would take care of the rest. Now their talking about raising the age for retirement hoping that I die first then they won't have to pay me.
Problem is that the contributions over the years have been more than enough money to fund the retirement of the contributors, even most politicians agree on this.
So where did the money go? With that kind of money layin around and with a bunch of politicians (most of witch are attorneys need I say more)managing it, well lets just say there's not enough money left for my retirement.
Now these politicians have alloted themselves very lucrative pensions and I probably wouldn't be so pissed except that they want me to work till I die cause there just isn't enough money in Social Security.
I don't have figures on this stuff but I know that Ex presidents and Goveners and Judges all make a ton of money when they retire. Maybe somebody on Rock page will have figures on this.
What I'm proposing is that we level the playing field and have these pampered Government workers receive the same pensions as us not the pensions that they established for themselves and don't let them raise the maximum payment so they could screw us again. If we could do this I'm sure there would be plenty of money and we could all retire at 62 years of age.
I'm looking forward to your replies. Please don't insult yourself by trying to blame this on one party, they're both guilty.

The money is going to current people on social security, the war in iraq, the immigrants, and the people on welfare.
This is why I have a stance that everyone should get a mutual fund of some sort. Or put it there money in some other investments. By the time I retire there will be no Social Security.

Music Rocks!
ssn
The fact of the matter is that in its inception S<S had plenty of money in it
but starting as early the late fiftys they started taping into the fund because the general funds were broke....most times it was to fund other social programs (temporary programs) but the funding never ended. and then they tappped it again and again. The funny thing is the people that control S S funds do not pay into it. So why care if the funds are low and they keep raising the retirement age they are not affected by it.
Privitization of the S S funds are the only way the American worker is going to have something to retire on. Let the insurance companys of this country run the funds, then watch the funds grow. Letting someone run the funds or anything they are not part of is always a disaster. Hope the future generations can get this changed.

Yeah.....put some faith in your morally and financially bankrupt government to give you back the money you put in when you retire....not me
I'm only 25, and I can guarantee that there will not be any SS for me when I retire....therefore, I began stockpiling money in my 401K as soon as I graduated college and began working. Luckily my company has matching up to 8%, so 16% of my paycheck every two weeks (the equivalent of 16%) goes into my 401K, and I attempt to keep an eye on the investments therein, to make sure I am getting the most out of my money, so I can attempt to retire early with any hope....if SS is there to supplement this money for me....all the freakin better
Our goverment has utilized SS has it's own slush fund to fund any number of ridiculous agendas (equally love to both parties here) over the years....
I feel bad for those of you over 45 who have not put as much away, and are quickly nearing the latter stages of your careers, and are relying on the SS money that you paid in to be there.....in ten to fifteen years, we could all be in for a surprise, but let's hope not....

SS was a good idea that became a free loan for those in power wanting to misappropriate cash all over the place. I'm definitely going to be investing in a private retirement fund.

Actually , upon it's inception , Social Security was already running in the red.
People who origionally retired on social secutiry never paid into it.
It was tapped for retirees the same time workers started putting money in.
Also , it was never intended to be sole retirement.
When it was started , our mortality was around 60 years....20 years less than now.
Regardless of what you may have heard , there is not now , nor has there ever been a "Socill Security Fund" of any kind.
Social Security is fed from a general fund which covers manygovernment programs.
It's been an outdated system for many , many years , and without some kind of reform , will always be just a helping hand.
The only sure form of security is personal investments.
Not social security , and definitely not cash-bearing insurance policies.
Yeah , I know....but I don't have the money to take my licensing test for investments and securities....but I have learned all the material for the tests....LOL...

You kinda have to. Even if SocSec was a fluid entity, the benefits paid won't be enough to live on anymore, and that's going on now. The best plan, I think, is to take advantage of 401k's to the full extent (it's like your income tax, you won't miss it as much if it comes out FIRST), watch those investments closely, invest whatever else you can afford in relatively safe places, pay off your home quickly, and stop assuming you will one day just stop working and vacation the rest of your life. You'll likely work at least part-time for a long time, unless you happen to enjoy dog food. If you get that now, you won't feel all disappointed and disillusioned then. Actually, how many people have you known who died within a few years of retiring?... I think it's best to stay relevant and keep swinging away. I hope I'll be playing music until I draw my last breath of barroom second-hand smoke. "Thank you ladies and gentlemen, good night!" Then collapse in a heap on the floor.----------->JMS

Us "pampered Government workers" won't even see a .25 of what we put in SS after retiring as "pampered Government workers". Don't confuse those "pampered Government workers" retiring today with the ones that will retire in 10 years and after. If you don't believe me, ask the "pampered Government workers".
My TSP is a lot like your 401k, so don't kid yourself.
SS was a farce many, many moons ago. Why are you surprised now?

Lets see if I got this strait. Your just gonna save money and you'll be fine so that makes it alright for the politicians to rape my retirement fund because you got it all figured out and it won't be you.
People of today are living a lot longer than they used to and everything is more expensive.
I figure someone in their 20's or 30's now could see 100 years as a normal life span. A lot happens in a 100 years. You could become ill, your spouse or children ill. Someone could sue you. Your body will surely wear out and require replacement parts. something could cause you to stop working before you reach 50! Have you saved enough to last you 50 years? When I started working the mimun wage was $1.25, think about where wages and prices could be in 20,30,40 years.

Anyone sick of all of our politicians raping us financially, just one thing to do.....vote all of the bastards out of office.
The key has to be term limits.
Vote Libertarian Party. Cut the giant government monster down, let us keep most of our money, and we will have the responsibility to save for our futures.
Look up the Fair Tax. It could also help control this runaway government spending.

Sorry didn't mean to offend you, your in the same boat as me. I stated that incorrectly. I meant the politicians with the large retirement checks. I think that their retirement should be put into Social Security and they should be paid the same as you and I.

Man, where do you get your info? We've always had a defecit, we've always been at war somewhere. The budget is NEVER balanced, and there are always jobs. Don't make this a partisan thread. This is about social security and all the damn screwups in D.C. They are all corrupt and are in it for personal benefit, I don't care what side you're on. Back to social security...I think people should just save up thier own stash. I feel bad for those that haven't been able to save and they are nearing retirement...as for me, i'm just gonna be like johnny, play until i die...

This is what happens when we allow the federal government to solve any kind of problem. They are completely incompetent at doing anything exept:
1. Blowing things up
2. Killing people
3. Creating bureacracies that spend money
When you consider how much they spend on 1 and 2, they aren't all that efficient on anything but #3.
The constitution doesn't say anything about the federal government getting involved with AGRICULTURE, ENERGY, EDUCATION, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, HOUSING & URBAN DEVELOPMENT or LABOR, but we have major bureaucratic departments with cabinet level positions for each of them. These departments are technically unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, one of the primary responsibilities of the federal government is to secure the international borders. They have been a miserable failure at this and most of their primary responsibilities since about the time that FDR started creating all those socialist programs during the depression. His programs never came close to fixing the economy, but it created today's big government mentality that led to our present gigamess. LBJ created the point of no return with his "Great Society" and Jimmy Carter finished the job with the depts of education and energy.
There are only a few long-term solutions to the problem:
1. Cut the powers of the federal government in half
or
2. Learn Chinese

There never was ANY money in the fictional SS "locked box". There never was a "locked box". The politician criminals spend it all as fast as they confiscate it from us. So it was never in the green. It is a ponzi scheme.
Chicom Billy did actually start a war in Bosnia and we still have thousands of troops there. Funny, how the liberal media never remind us of that.
There was a deficit under Chicom Clinton, he just used fuzzy math to declare that maybe in 10 years or so, there would be a balacned budget. He never had one.
We can't impeach them all....so vote Libertarian.
I'm Sorry Guys just stirring the bucket o Shit! LOL

This is off-topic, but allow me to vent...
If I were given the chance to opt out of Social Security, that is, stop paying into the system today with the understanding that I would never receive any benefits, and that I would be forfeiting what I have already paid into the system, I would do that in a hot minute.
That won't happen, because the only reason that the system is (barely) working is because those who are working today are funding those who are drawing from the system today.
It bothers me that whenever somebody proposes allowing ME to decide how I want MY contribution invested, so that I might have an actual return on the investment of MY money, people misrepresent that as "privatizing Social Security". Lies are told to try to scare the less informed into believing that somehow, giving us more control over our own money is a dangerous, terrible idea.

If I'm not going to have SS when I retire why do I still have to pay into it and if I could stop pay'n into it but couldn't get benies later on down the road I would too but, I want the money I already paid in all those years, which is from age 14 to 31 . You don't have SS because of all the low life bastards who don't wanna work for a living , with excuses like ........
I'm to fat to work but ,I won't use any of my disability funds to get help with my weight problem which might enable me to get a job ,so you can take care of me in the mean time right ?
My back is bad but, I can drink lots of beer you bought for me while I chop this fire wood , but then I guess I don't really need to chop wood when you're pay'n my fuel oil bill and rent .
I have to take care of the 6 kids I have to 6 different guys who don't pay child support and I can't afford a sitter to watch them while I work or try to find work but you don't mind flip'n the bill for a while do ya ?
My life is so bad I might kill myself which in turn makes me crazy and as long as I keep telling those shrinks I'm that way I won't have to get a job ,yeah that's a great plan that'll surely keep me from get'n a job.
The list goes on and on and I'm sure everyone knows people like this and I can assure you THEY are a big problem. You should have a choice whether you want the government handleing your money and who the hell are any of them to tell us that THEY think private handleing is a bad idea ? Most of us would do way better if we did have that choice, I know I would for sure. Social Security is like buy'n a home, you pay in for 30 years and it still isn't really yours when it's all said and done . I came to grips with the fact I'm stuck work'n till I die and the bad part is most of you are going to also so deal with it or make plans early by save'n your money up or by investing it , that's the only way you are sure to have anything later in life.
Our government officials are all OUR employees and a GOOD employee dosen't have to tell their employers how GREAT they are, the employer already knows if ya know what I mean. You want Social Security benies later in life then get rid of most of them and all the dead beat pieces of shit who are stealing your money and untill that is done you're just beating a dead horse.

A person is getting along the road to wisdom when they begin to realize that their opinion is just another opinion !
There is a county in Texas that somehow was able to avoid SS for its county employees. The money it invested in stocks and bonds will return more than 10 times what they would have received under SS.
Anyone in their 30's should start screaming and shouting about this, and you should be able to invest the 7% taken out of your paycheck in the markets. You would actually have a decent return after 25 to 30 years worth of growth and have something to live on in your retirement.
Politicians ignore all of you in your 30's and under cause your age group hardly votes in any great numbers.
You should all start voting Libertarian and scare the snot of all politicians.
