BROTHERS IN ARMS

Post by AtHopesEnd »

On my way to work today I decided to put in on of my mix mp3 cds and I came across Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms. I havent listened to this in years. Then I came across the song itself ... "Brothers In Arms" I had forgotten how just hearing this song sent chills through my body. As soon as the first guitar note rings out the chills start and I think to myself, now this is why I love music so much. The guitar tone in this song is amazing and the mood and feeling in this song is just incredible. So I was wondering, what songs send chills through your body and leaves you mesmerized, making you forget about everything in this world that sucks and for 3 or 4 minutes while listening to this song, you are in total peace.

There are a number of songs that do that for me, depending on my headspace at the moment. Right now it's Thin Lizzy's "Roisin Dubh (Black Rose)". Phil's lyrics really draw on Irish epic poetry and the guitar harmonies of Moore and Gorham are otherworldly. For the duration of the song I am truly somewhere else. It just takes me away...

SLAYER- Reign in Blood...the whole album back to back...these 10 tracks take you on a roller coaster ride through hell. After a bad day of work or spat with your love, load this up and let go of life for a half hour or so and you'll be a much nicer person.

Theres alot of tunes that really hit me, but one that always does it for me is Roadhouse blues by Albert King. I just love his emotion comin out of his playing on this one!

Led Zeppelin "Thank You" and "Bring it on home" right now.

Also an FYI for those of you with SACD / DVD Audio capability, they just put out a collectors edition of "Brothers in Arms" with a full 5.1 DVD Audio 96 Khz remix of the entire CD that was done by Mark Knopfler. Awesome!

Also U2's "Bad"

U2 - One - lyrical genius

Guns N' Roses - those last few choruses to Estranged and the last stanzas to Coma are just brutal melodies....

Cheap Trick - Surrender (live version) - the ultimate youth anthem - still gets me everytime

Chills everytime.......

Wow...I don't know if I should admit some of these.

"Superman" - Five for Fighting
"Hey Man, Nice Shot" - Filter (I love the drum parts, right before the chorus hits. It gets me amped everytime.)
"My Immortal" - Evanescence (with the heavy ending)
"Fix You" - Coldplay
"Mutter" - Rammstein
"Applebite" - Soundgarden
and almost anything off of Jerry Cantrell's "Degredation Trip volume 1"

Ten Years Gone - Led Zeppelin

Boys of Summer - Don Henley. The song has a very moody atmosphere to it.
