Billy Millano and the S.O.D. boys had it right twenty years ago:
F**k the Middle East
There's too many problems
They just get in the way
We could sure live without them
They hijack our planes
They raise our oil prices
We'll kill em all and have a ball
And end their f**kin crisis

That is just it, Rob. We are in a tough situation here; Yes Iran is an allie, but, they are defieing the un and US in every attempt to stop the creation of nuclear weapons. This will turn into something more than you think. I can see the UN backing us up on this one. Then with the Iraq fiasco it's hard to say.
I there are two things that are causing this all right now, they are:
"Skulls and Bones" and signs of Tribulation .. Then, I could also be way off.

Theres going to be war in Iran sooner or later. I hope not. But diplomacy only works if both parties a willing to talk. Obviously...Right now Iran's govt wont budge an inch. Hopefully some other democratic countries will be willing to help with this one. I dont trust the UN as far as I can throw it.

Iran has been an enemy of the U.S. since a revolution in 1979 deposed the Shah (our ally). That same year Ayatollah Khomeini came out of exile to rule the country and they took 51 hostages from the US embassy.f.sciarrillo wrote:That is just it, Rob. Iran will be a target whether they continue to develop nukes or not. I suspect the present situation in Iraq has delayed the inevitable, but we have Iraq surrounded with a good portion of our military strength as we type this.

Thanx for clearing that up. I was always told they were our allies. Either way, we will be going after them sooner or later. It will be sooner when we are the first target with one of their nukes. I agree that Iraq is holding us back from a lot of things, both post and pre this country.lonewolf wrote:Iran has been an enemy of the U.S. since a revolution in 1979 deposed the Shah (our ally). Israel is going to be the first target of their nukes. But I don't think Israel is going to sit around and wait for that to happen. Plus Israel has nukes of its own.
Iran is a problem completely independent of Iraq. They won't be allowed to have nukes under any circumstances. Their leader is completely insane. Its really a nightmare scenario.
We won't invade Iran. I think that they may get a serious dose of B-2 bombers and cruise missiles which may or may not destroy their nuclear capability. If Israel goes it alone who knows what will happen. I'm not sure what Israel's capabilities are.
If you start nuking Iran's facilities to guarantee you destroy them you may irradiate the oil rendering it useless, plus I doubt anyone in the government has the huevos to actually use tactical nukes...even if they are the best guarantee of success.
And what are the repercussions on the price of oil?
It sure will be an interesting summer.

Here's a few points to ponder:
1. The initial act of the UN was to give the Israelites a homeland... ANY HOMELAND. They didn't need to give them what they had in biblical times. As you know, this really pissed the Palestinians off. Why isn't the entire Muslim conglomerate pissed off at the UN? You probably know the answer!
2. Iran is bluffing when they say that they will nuke Israel. Much of Israel is Muslim holy ground.
3. We've made interesting strides in UAV technology. We can pelt Iran from the air, as if it were Chinese water torture, if they don't comply.
4. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) will make the war on terror very interesting. England and Israel have already a lot of interest. That's right, Israel could have some Super Hornets, Ospreys, etc.
5. When you look at the building suspicion of other countries (North Korea, China, Russia, etc.) and you look at how the events folded for some other of our big wars in history, would you say that we're nearing WWIII?
Whatever the case, I think that we've been trying to polish a turd with these Muslim nations. The UN needs to be disolved. Fight the good fight!!

I agree, that is the dangerous one, the one country that pretends to be our friend.bassist_25 wrote:Saudi Arabia is the country we have to be worrying about sticking a knife to us.
I was watching a financial news show (amazing what you will learn on finance news shows) and they said that Saudi Arabia is pumping tons of water underground to help with oil production. This is not a good sigh for the longevity of their oil fields.
I say lets start getting oil out of the Anwar fields in Alaska until we can harness cold fusion, affordable solar power and more wind power.
Won't it be great to tell the oil sheiks to stick it where the sun don't shine?
Why does Iran need nuclear power anyway? Can't you just stick a hose in the ground pretty much anywhere there and oil bubbles out? Why not use THAT?
I also think the current administration should be pushing the alternative fuels thing Bush talked about in the State Of The Union address last year. I believe pushing new energy tech would bring his poll numbers up... many people were hopeful about that, cheap fuel makes for a happy constituency.
Alt-fuels are kinda funny to me right now... who's opposing the wind farms? The Sierra Club hippies who want me to stop polluting the world! Not In My Backyard even applies to them! It kills bats, they say! Any twilight trip to Canoe Creek will point out there's no shortage of bats. (BTW, you all should do that... it's a very pleasant sunset, and if you're not frightened of bats... they're just everywhere).
I'm all for wind-farms and solar, and hell, put 'em in my FRONT yard for all I care, and let me pay a $10 light bill, and ten less coal-trains an hour going by my house when I'm trying to record late at night.------->JMS

Unfortunatley Johnny, that seems to be the case. On top of all of the things in my life that stress me out, $2.80 gas prices are very high on that list. It's literally stressing me out. I don't have a lot of disposable income to begin with, let alone money to put in the tank just to drive to school, work, and gigs. I drive a mid-sized sedan, which compared to some of the gas hogs on the road today, is pretty good on gas. I can fit inside it two 4x10 cabinets, at least two basses, a six space rack, and my large suit case full of misc. items. Last night, I actually fit all of that (minus one cabinet), plus a small PA. And I probaly could have made the second cabinet fit too if I wanted. But it was a small gig, so no need to bring the second cabinet. But anyways, my point is that I don't think I would be able to go down to any smaller of a vehicle, and I can't afford one of those diesel Volkswagons.songsmith wrote:Why does Iran need nuclear power anyway? I am hoping this flex fuel thing does go threw quick. All this talk on television and the media makes one wonder though. either way, when it does take affect you will see Saudi Arabia, and the rest of the foreign nations we get oil from trying to give it to us, as we will force them into bankruptcy.
The price we pay now is nothing more than price gouging, no one can tell me any diff. When you see a oil company beat wal-mart in the top grossing company in the forbes list you know there is robbery going on. Of course the government won't do anything about it, they have shares in the oil stocks. with the profit they are making, why would they do anything ??

An interesting point about Iran not nuking Israel. Holy Land and all. But that wont stop them from pointing them at the UK or one of our aircraft carriers.
Alternative fuel: Bio- Diesel seems to be the most practical right now. But its petroleum based. Joe mentioned cold fusion, but the last I heard we're still years away from that.
Ok this isnt going to be a popular statement, but its my belief the reason we haven't found Saddam's nukes is because he had them moved into Syria or Iran. Seems a little funny that a few years after the invasion of Iraq, Iran pops up with a nuke program.
Something has to be done soon about the situation, its not going to peacefull. I truly hope it is resolved peacefully, but it dont look good.
