What do ya think?

Post by Trucula »

:D ..I kinda got this idea and wondered what everyone thought about it....Say all the bands on Rockpage sat down and made a CD...Like "The Rockpage.net's Band Jam" or something like it....We all put one original on it and we all have something to sell and advertize Rockpage!...We'd all get to kno each others music...have a good break Cd to play at gigs,,promotes each other...and maybe donate alot of the $$$ to something...Like the Music for Kids or some other org.???

What ya think :?: ...just an idea ,,,

I think it would be AWESOME

Is that aimed at me? I'll be glad to contribute an original song to a Rockpage CD; would you like to hear something from the back catalog, or something fresh?

Have you ever seen Hair Force One, or have you just heard about us? Either way, do you think that that means you know the sum total of my entire artistic life, or that of my bandmates? The same goes for Bad Daze, or any of the cover bands.

What is the source of this idea that you must play your own compositions 100% of the time to be a worthwhile musical artist? A musician is not the same thing as a composer. Many of us are both, though not always simultaneously. Even when you are performing songs you have written, are you not a cover band covering your own material? If your band performs a song that the drummer wrote, does that mean that everybody but the drummer is a sellout when they are playing it?

Can you enjoy a movie or a play, knowing that the actors have not written their own lines? What kind of scam is that, really. Shame on them.

Bah. I hate ranting. It's only entertaining for the ranter. Check out this headbanger smiley. It's fun and you might enjoy it: Image

Maaaaaaaaan would that kick some major azz or what ? I don't know but that might have to be a two disc set Trucula. l.o.l. :D Could you just imagine sweet it would be to have a Rockpage Album ? Those things would sell like hot cakes and if you could donate some money to a great cause for kids that would be outstanding. 8)

Jimi , sometimes the rant is fun for people other than the ranter !
I liked the rant dude and keep up the great work ! :D

*LOL* Wow Jimi, it seems like our two bands take a lot of lumps for playing covers. That's cool though, because it means that we're doing something right. ;)

But not to detract from the original purpose of this thread, a sampler CD would defiantley be capital. There may not be enough room on it though to highlight all the talent. My only suggestion would to make sure that all of the recordings are professional quality. Nothing would be worse than having four pro-quality recordings, then have a demo-quality track in the middle.

I don't want this to turn into a original/cover thing...thats not my intentions...You all kno the limits on recording someone elses songs and selling them...it be GREAT to have like a 3-4 fold out CD like the South Park DVD sets and have like a rock one,a metal one, a country one, and somehow get clearance to use covers as long as the originators are giving credit ,and so "everyone " could be a part of it...I think it be a great way to advertize all bands on here and NOT LET ANYONE OUT!!...And I agree it needs to be done by the same studio so it kinda flows togeather and one song isn't super loud and one ya can't hear...I just think it be a great way to link us all togeather more and have something we ALL have in common and could be apart of!.....They could be sold almost anywhere around here.( Quick-marts ,Sheetz, ect) Even kicking some money Rockpage way...Think of the hits the page would get....A great way to get more non-musicians into this page!..Please don't think I want to not include everyone on this!...There has to be a way we all could be on there!

Hell yes, Jimi ...

My name is BadDazeRob and I'm in a cover band ...

For the record, my personal catalog of original music spans back to the age of four through the present. I’ve been performing original songs throughout those years — for family when I was a wee one, during high school daZe at choral assemblies, talent shows and keggers (just me and my guitar) and more recently on area stages with my previous band.

A local music compilation CD is a great idea ... it should happen. Should anyone pursue this, please post details.

I like this idea..

I also think Trucula has the best idea - divide it into 4 categories - Rock (4 days dirty, Whiskerbisket, ect), Country/Americana/Bluegrass (.00 Buck, Rusty Gun Revival ect), Metal (Second Offense, At Hopes End, SuicideSwitch, ect) and Covers (Bad DaZe, HF1, Sound of Silence, ect) and have each section have a little sleeve with some information about each of the featured bands on the compilation - and all that shit..

sure, this may cost some money to do - this is why each band chips in for their behalf - and think of the money made in the long run - sell this shit all over, each band can sell their own cds, and all that fun stuff..

Record it at the same studio over say the summer.. see if our friends at Heartless Mockery would be up for it..

just an idea.

I don't know if this was what AtoMikEnRtiA was talking about. If so then I agree, if not then...I think since some people may like country and not metal, and vice-versa. It may be wise in putting out 4 seperate CD's. Rockpage Rock, Rockpage Metal, well you get the idea. Just a suggestion though... :D

If it were my project, (which I know it isn't, I'm just creating a hypothetical situation) I'd just simply put it like "Rockpage Rock," "Rockpage Country," "Rockpage Cover," "Rockpage Metal." And then maybe next year do a "Rockpage Rock volume 2," and so on. And maybe as another thought, whenever you guys do the Rockpage Jam, maybe even throw that into the mix. "Rockpage Live" or something. Maybe you can even make a couple box sets for the people interested in them all, but I don't want to seem harsh, but there maybe some people just interested in country, or just interested in metal, and so on. And may not want to pay for stuff they don't want (or won't want) to listen to. I'm trying to stimulate some ideas, because I do think this would go over real well with the public. FYE, Hot Topic, etc. I know they'd buy this stuff up in a heartbeat. What company wouldn't "Support their local scene?" I personally work at Wal-Mart and I'm pretty sure I can get all the Wal-Marts around here to sell them. I'm sure they'll have to be edited for profanities, but I think that's a small price to pay for Wal-Mart.

or you could just cut the cost and get JP and the guys to pick 5 of the best bands from each genre....
it might be more feasible then trying to record 100 bands...

Awesome idea Trucula! This could really help promote alot of bands if everybody would work together. I really feel this should be geared towards original music (yes, I play in a cover band & just said that). This could work either way-compilation of styles or grouped by style. The compilation idea is cool because it gives more exposure to what's happening on the local scene and shows the diversity out there. You can really improve your own playing by opening up to different styles. I really don't care too much for country but caught a country band a couple weeks ago. The guitarist was smokin'. Everything he played was very clean and dynamic no matter how fast or slow the passage was. Made me want to practice that much more (by the way you should hear this guy shred-killer player all the way around). And Jimi-the headbanger smiley rocks!!!

Thanks BDG!...And I do feel (if possible without copyright issues) there should be a "Rockpagers Does Covers" version. So all could get in on it..I know they'd all be in my CD case!..and I'd drag them along to shows so I could get everyone to sign them so I could say," I met these guys!" 8)

I like the idea, but it would really have to be all-original. The headache of gaining rights and clearances for cover songs would cost more than the project would raise. There's a lot of legal hoops to jump through, and they would have to be taken care of before any covers were recorded.

Hey AtoMikEnRtiA, why would we be in the cover band part, sure we do covers but, we have almost enough original material to make an entire c.d. ! Check out my signiture ,that's a Sound Of Silence "cover" of a song I wrote years ago and it's title is "Too Much" just in case you were wondering ! l.o.l. We have wrote about three new tunes in the last couple of weeks and there still come'n out like crazy, so look for our first c.d. sometime in the near future, it'll be kick ass ! 8)

This could be a really cool thing if someone could get it off the ground. There are alot of great bands on here to choose from for such a c.d. and it would be hard to choose some without others being left out. Maybe we could draw names or something to make it fair . Of course J.P. or Ron would have to do it so there is no question on why someone is on it and someone isn't, just a thought . It wouldn't matter to me if there was country ,rock ,metal, funk, blues on it I would still buy it and I think it would be better if it wasn't all just one type of music ,after all Rockpage is supportive of ALL local music acts not just rock . Hell it would even be cool if some bands worked together on a song or write one just for this album ! 8)

Damn I almost forgot........... YEEEEEE HAAAA 400 ! Take that Trucula ! l.o.l. :D
