10th annual Millenium Music Conference in Harrisburg

Post by nightcrawler_steve »

Is anyone going? Has anyone gone before? Was it a positive experience?

Were attending and performing and would like some feedback from folks who have gone in the past.

I'll be attending Millennium again this year, as part of the Pennsylvania Musician contingent. I believe this is the 8th or 9th year I've attended (I lost track).

Millennium is always a good experience for me. I learn a lot about the current state of the music industry every year, plus I see and meet a lot of bands and musicians, and establish contacts. Usually I land some new guests for the "Backyard Rocker" every year with contacts I make at Millennium.

I would suggest if you're both showcasing and attending the conference itself, one key word...NETWORK! Meet as many people as you can, from other bands and musicians to industry folks at the conference itself. Make contacts, shake hands, ask questions, collect business cards, and just soak in as much as you can at the conference. You'll learn a few things at the seminars and trade show, and establish contacts that might help your career down the road. Also, through networking with other bands on your showcase bill and throughout the weekend, you can set up gig swaps to get into new markets.

One misconception that a lot of musicians have about Millennium and other conferences is that they get discovered and signed at such conferences. That usually does not happen, but contacts you make at Millennium can set the wheels into motion for good things to happen down the road. Although Halestorm didn't get signed from the Millennium Music Conference, the contacts they made in past years at Millennium (and at the Dewey Beach Music Conference in Delaware) set the wheels into motion for their eventual signing with Atlantic.

So I would suggest again, take in as much of the conference as you can, soak in information, meet people, network, and have fun!

i registered - havent heard anything back from them yet..

keep in mind children, to even get into this thing. im told you have to be accepted, like say we would get accepted - we would only get credentials to be in the actual conference the DAY of our show, the rest of the conference we would not be allowed in, so for those of you expecting to drive to harrisburg, and just waltz into the place - you'll get shut down - in which case, give me a call and we'll fuck hersheypark up haha.

good luck to any rockpagers who registered, i know 4 days dirty got on.. i think.
