Whatcha Listening To?

Post by Jim Price »

Since it has been a little while since the last such thread on this topic ran its course, I thought I'd start a new one. Just a roll call on what everyone is listening to at the moment...

I'm checking out the new album by the Brain Surgeons NYC, which is the band formed by original Blue Oyster Cult drummer Albert Bouchard and his wife, Deborah Frost, back in 1994 (they played new Sebastiano's a couple of times in the late 90's). The album is called Denial Of Death. It pounds! Since their visits to Altoona, the Surgeons now have Ross The Boss of Manowar fame playing guitar for them. It's definitely heavier than their earlier stuff; some of it hints at the second coming of Blue Oyster Cult - good stuff!

Shameless plug, I'll be reviewing the album and playing a tune from it on Q94 Thursday afternoon at 3:45...

So what are YOU listening to...?

Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction - "Tatooed Beat Messiah"

Cannibal Corpse - "Kill" (Not out yet, I got an advance copy... )

The new Scar Symmetry "Pitch Black Progress" is really badass.
Also Centinex's "World Declension" is brutal.
Two excellent metal records!

Not to whup a dead horse, but I can't stop listening to that Santana/McLaughlin live show from '73 that I got from the site on the thread about the Zeppelin bootlegs.

Other than that, I have really been loving reexploring the first Metal Church album and Exodus' "Bonded by Blood".

As far as single tunes go, I have been infatuated by Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" lately.

Bluegrass Preservation Society podcast #68. Utterly addicted to the whole "American-ness" of it, the host is a sweet old guy who loves bluegrass and his 3-legged cat, Buster. Excellent musicianship, and heartfelt, if not technically proficient, vocals.
www.bluegrasspreservation.org
George Jones -- First Time Live From '86, it's a snapshot of when he was still "No-Show Jones." Man, that em-effer can sing country music. The old cats are dying off fast lately, but the music plays on...
And finally... XM Satellite Radio, specifically The Boneyard, Bluegrass Junction, and Hanks Place. The program directors are awesome. Today I heard Chinatown by Thin Lizzy. The only other place you'd hear that is on Q-94's Closet Chronicles. You do listen to that, right? RIGHT?---->JMS

I listen to a Tool cd almost every day  I'm hopelessly hooked on them  I listened to the Aenima, Undertow, Lateralus, Salival and Opiate cd's the whole way through while I was working at Seven Springs Sunday night. My live Tool video collection is MASSIVE.

I have a bunch of Evanescence cd's, alot of early demo versions of their songs. It's cool to hear the demo versions of the songs on the Fallen cd. I think they are awsome. I have a ton of live videos of them too.

Slipknot just blows me away everytime I listen to any of their cd's or watch them live. I got tons of live Slipknot vids.

I've been trying to get into some newer bands that are coming out. The only newer band that intrests me right now is Avenged Sevenfold. I saw a live performance video of them on tv that just floored me  I'm gonna definately check their stuff out.

I have been listening to Babylon A.D. constantly lately. Lynch Mob has been on heavy rotation in the cd player, too. Those two mixed with some Elvis and Hank, Sr. on a daily basis. What more could you ask for?

Ever since seeing Nichole Nordeman with Casting Crowns at the BJC earlier this month I have been buying her catalog and listening to it. Some other great CD's came out this month and they have been gettiing a lot of play too. Building 429's Rise is great and so is The Hearts Of The Innoocent by Kutless.

I listen to emo, thank you...

some of my favorite songs are..

1) "Stab me in my heart because I love you" - by Misunderstood Mascara
2) "Rip across my veins (and let the blood run down my hands)" - by The Heartbroken
3) "Sugar, we're going down" - by Fall Out Boy
and.. everybody's favorite..
4) "Stabby, rippy, stab stab" - by We look away from the camera lense during photo opportunities..

i guess it's just that nobody understands me.. my mom thinks im gay because she caught me kissing another guy.. i mean c'mon - it's the 2000's - cant 2, or 3, or 4 dudes make out without being gay? c'mon..
