Are there any proud Scientologists in our midst?

:D

Some central beliefs of Scientology:

* A person is an immortal spiritual being (termed a thetan) who possesses a mind and a body.
* The thetan has lived through many past lives and will continue to live beyond the death of the body.
* A person is basically good, but becomes "aberrated" by moments of pain and unconsciousness in his life.
* What is true for you is what you have observed yourself. No beliefs should be forced as "true" on anyone. Thus, the tenets of Scientology are expected to be tested and seen to either be true, or not, by Scientology practitioners.

In a recent issue of Rolling Stone, they did an in-depth report explaining the basic tenets of scientology and examining how individual members of the church are treated and how they are affected by these ideals.

Portions of this religion seem relatively ludicrous on paper - but to each their own, I would not try to dissuade someone from belieiving in something.

If I remember correctly, L. Ron Hubbard (the creator of the religion), was a failed science fiction writer in the 1950's who created a religion based on the story about an evil galactic warlord named Xendu (or something similiar). The story actually gets more ridiculous as it goes along....and this is held as one of the central beliefs of the religion.

I would suggest that anyone with any questions at all regarding Scientology should read this very well done article. It was two issues back (the one with that red headed Olympic snowboarder on the cover)....it's good for a laugh.....and for some more detailed information regarding this damn near "secret society".....makes you lose respect for alot of actors and Hollywood types who buy into it....

People are free to believe what they want to believe. It's funny if you think that your bad feelings are caused by alien souls killed in a nuclear holocaust, but hey, who am I to judge you on that?

But as someone planning to have a career in psychology, I have serious ethical issues with that bullshit Dianetics, which is psuedo-psychotherapy used to brain-wash people.

would the idea be cooler if it was done on like gilligans island then we could consider ourselves one of the beings based on the traits inherieted from the primal being so one could be very learned and be professorian or one could be of the tramp variety and be considedered to be gingerian or a bit of a maryannitte

then we could all strive to get off the island and not one would get voted off because i amsure that being voted off the island creates the aforementioned love stains and in reality would cause us to only despise each other more then we already do

the gilliganesque of us would perform the function of bringing the gang together or would be the scoobbies

have i ever had sex that would be a mrs howellish type of euphinism i would like to think of my lovemaking in a more pleasant fashion then one of the getting laid variaty in my honest opinion my lovemaking has become somewhat of an art in the respect that i do not so much as focus on my own satisfaction as i do that of my partner i am adament that the woman that i am with will have orgasms or at least experience the release that most women so richl;y deserve i derive my pleasure from the act of pleasing much like my little buddy

i have found that different woman will have different styles of orgasms but in all cases long drawn out oral foreplay has always been appreciated except for those on the clock

this is a professorial type response and given enough cash i am sure that you will be able to rid your self joe of the manifestations that initiate your responses

on the islans you wont get exiled you will be cherished you will be adorned with the prosperity that would be ours fore to love would be devine
rest for now I die.

Here is news story about Tom Cruise and his preggers child wife, from CNBC NEWS:

While Hollywood awaits a due date for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby, one thing is already a known fact — when the baby does arrive, Scientology will play a major role.

Tom and Katie are likely to follow the church's "silent birth" guidelines during delivery, which means no music and no talking during the birth, which also means no screaming during the pains of labor.

The doctrine also states that newborns cannot be poked or prodded for medical tests or even spoken to for the first seven days of their lives, believing that babies go through so much pain during the birth, they shouldn't have to experience any further discomfort or sensory experience that could return later in life to haunt them.

I'm kind of curious to find something else out. Not to change the whole form of this thread. But, how many people actually became a "Scientologist" because of Tom and Katie, or how many have went to a jewish sect like Madonna or Demi Moore, because it's "popular". I'd like to simply know how many people joined a religion because of the media and/or famous actors, musicians, whatever. I truly hope no one could answer this like "Yeah, I believe in God because Jack Black does and Jack Black is right. Look at the cool funny movies he made. God loves comedies, God loves Jack, I love Jack, and I love God." Don't know how Jack really feels and don't really care. I just hate talking on religion.

Also, if a book did that much damage or good to create Scientology. How come Star Wars isn't a religion? Does anyone believe in the force? Or is that Wiccan? (didn't mean to go there, but I had to... it tied in so well.)

Don't be mad at me...I'm just confused.

Don't be confused! Scientology is what it is, read "Dianetics" and see what you think. Check out http://www.scientology.org/ and see what there is to see. This has drawn a lot of people in so hey you never know.

As far as the book thing yes the discussion can always go to "Star Wars" ar what ever but there will never be a religion based on "Tom Sawyer" either.

Religion and belief are very personal and each person is allowed his own belief. The fact that Scientology is allowed to exist speaks volumes for our Country and the Freedom that we as Americans have.

Also I don't know how much luck you will have getting anyone to admit that they went to a Religion to be a part of a fad or because someone else is involved in it. Even if they did it might be hard for someone to come out and say "Yes I joind the Buddhists because the awesome clothing that they wear!"

So don't worry about being confused, most of us are in the same boat.

I would worry more about that "Sleepytime Bear" thing then the afterlife at this point. What is up with that?

I remember reading somwhere that people were trying to make Jedi an official religion or something like that. Robby D is a Star Wars expert, so maybe he can chime in and explain that.

Jedi becomes a religion.. i swear to god, I'll officially start to accept the Branch Davidians as a religion..

you see - reasons like this, are why I feel religion is a mental incapacity - and the fact that you get tax breaks for being mentally incapacitated angers me.. immensely..

You ever go to Scientology.org - this L. Ron Hubbard guy is a total fucking moron..

here are some quotes..
L. Ron Hubbard wrote:One day when we can fully trust each other - there will be peace on Earth...
... No shit? I guess the foreign policy portion of your extreme religious psychobabble is pretty solid.
L. Ron Hubbard wrote:He who can communicate to others, is a higher being who builds new worlds...
... Huh? He who can communicate to others.. CAN WORK THE FUCKING COUNTER AT McDONALDS .. build a new world? let's start with a double cheeseburger and large fries, asshole..
L. Ron Hubbard wrote:Dreams, goals, ambitions.. these are the stuff man uses for fuel..
... and I suppose food, water, sleep and oxygen mean NOTHING to us then - is that what you're saying?

no wonder Tom Cruise worships this guy - they share the same brain stem.. eh fuck it

The whole JEDI religion thing sarted a few years ago when a census taken in Australia and England was done and several thousand responses under religion affiliation were answered with Jedi, and it stirred up a controversy within the government that the censuses were falsified with these responses.

"Star Wars" creator George Lucas has said in interviews that he intentionally imbued the series with religious themes, but his aspiration stopped short of inventing a fully realized faith. His aim, rather, was to "re-create myths" and "take the issues that religion represents and ... distill them down into a more modern and easily accessible construct."

Luke Skywalker's use of "the Force," for example, is easily recognizable as a leap of faith — a surrender to a mystical higher power. But the particulars of that are left up to the viewer's imagination.

Says Lucas: "I put the Force into the movie in order to try to awaken a certain kind of spirituality in young people — more a belief in God than a belief in any particular religious system. I wanted to make it so that young people would begin to ask questions about the mystery."

I read an interview with Lucas before where he basically stated that he didn't care if people studied the Jedi Philosphy as a religion , or not, as long as they bought his licensed merchandise to keep making his cash cow grow. He is very greedy, and money is everything to him. He has also stated that he has become the "Corporate Empire", what he fought against in Hollywood when he was trying to get Star wars first made,in a strange sort of his life imitating his art scenario over the years.

I have been a long time fan of the SAGA, but people need to lighten up....it's just a movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahaha...well, the Sleepytime Bear thing is simple. I was talking on an old thread. And I was starting to get tired, and was making little sense on the thread. So I signed it "Sleepytime Bear." Someone else picked up on it and said it was easier to write/say than Dragan Kalasa. Which this person wrote Dragon Kielbasa (I thought that was pretty funny). So I guess it kinda stuck that way. Although, I do use a couple different names alternately. Sleepytime Bear is just simple fun.
